Still standing

Mark D'Arcy | 15:47 UK time, Tuesday, 19 January 2010

After the "deja coup" of a couple of weeks ago, a lot of observers wondered if one of the ex-Cabinet ministers who called for a Labour Party ballot on Gordon Brown's leadership would leave the Commons.

But Geoff Hoon, former defence secretary and chief whip, is going nowhere. He told my colleague from the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s East Midlands Today, John Hess, that he does intend to be a candidate at the next election.

"I am a candidate and it's important I continue the work as I've been doing today as the MP for Ashfield."

Q: So Geoff Hoon's name will be on that ballot paper?

"My ambition is to continue to represent the people of Ashfield."
