Speaker's statement

Mark D'Arcy | 15:10 UK time, Monday, 8 February 2010

Speaker Bercow is to make a statement to the Commons after Home Office Question Time, this afternoon - so at about 3.30pm.

MPs have to be told what he has to say, first, so it is purely guesswork, when I suggest that he may well give the House the benefit of his legal advice on whether the three MPs facing criminal charges over their expenses can use Parliamentary Privilege as part of their defence.

We shall see....

UPDATE: It was about the expenses three - but only to warn MPs that the cases are now sub judice and cannot be referred to in motions, debates or questions.
