Murray, Firstly I hope you are well.
You have had a long and illustrious career in motorsport, and long may that continue, what have been your highlights, and what if any thing would you have done differently, with the benefit of hindsight?

Do you think the switch to Donington in 2010 is a good move for the britsh grand prix?

Can button win the world title ? I know its only the first race of what will be a long season, but the performance of the Brawn was fantastic in its first race. Its seems that the new regulations suit Jensons smooth driving style and this season could well play into his hands if the Brawn car is reliable, the only blot on the landscape is the diffuser debacle. Hopefully the powers that be will judge the diffuser legal and above board.

First of all, just want to say your continued involvment in the coverage of F1 is fantastic, the day you retired from commentry was a sad day for commentry as far as i'm concered (though the 大象传媒 seem to be doing a good job with their current team).

But down to the question, with the rise of Brawn GP, rivaling that of Lazarus, meaning we now have a British team and very likely 2 strong British contenders (certainly in the early part of the season), Can you remember a season which has contained as much domestic talent and interest in recent years? Is this year perhaps the year when F1 can gain some ground in the eyes of the british public?

Also, (cheeky i know, asking 2 questions, how dare i?!), but what do you consider to be the best piece of "driving music"?

What do you think about twilight races? Surely there is an accident waiting to happen

Enough of the sucking up to you....I'm glad I got your opinion of Kubica and I am happy that it reflects that of mine also. In comparison to Heidfeld, who appears to struggle with tyres and his setup, and had KERS installed, this shows that Kubica is extremely talented. BMW also tend to sandbag during the winter and practice sessions it appears, so it looks as though that Kubica exercised the car's true potential in the grand prix.

I think that now Jenson has a good reliable car he is a challenger, he always had the ability to become a world champion. I now live in the US so miss F1 on the 大象传媒 it is good that you Murray are back there and great that the 大象传媒 have F1 again, but I get to see neither and as someone who grew up with you way back whenever I miss it.

PS as you were in the Tank Regiment you must have been to Bovington in the 50's early 60's did you ever meet my father G H Jones?

Please can you tell me Mr Walker, Bernie has stated that he wants the next F1 champion to be the winner of most races in a season, thus making overtaking more daring. Now this is what has happened in Aussie with Vettell and Kubica, one defends to the limit the other tries to overtake, much more than last season. THEN THE STEWARDS DECIDE TO PUNISH VETTELL for doing as BERNIE ASKS!
Or is it that Bernie just wants F1 to become a farce with the stewards and courts deciding ALL RACES and championships...remeber the 70's? when bernie n max saved F1? and what are\ they doing now? you must be shivering at the thought? as well must KING MARTIN B?

OMG, what do Lewis Hamilton and McLaren and us the views have to do to get a fair race off F1? Trulli and Lewis where obviously confused over who should have been where due to their little miss hap under the safety car. Whats all this rubbish about "for providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards" McLaren shouldn't have to had to appeal against the result of the race in the first place. The stewards should have seen it for themselves during the race. Which race where they watching? All they have to do is make sure the cars are in the same order when they restart as when the safety car came out. How Hard is that?

What is your opinion regarding Lewis Hamilton's disqualification from the Australian GP? Personally, I think it is another case of injustice reminiscent of Spa last year. Trulli went off the track, Hamilton I'm sure was aware of it, and gave the place back to him. The rules are obviously confusing but I understand Hamilton let Trulli pass him under the safety car since he was Trulli was ahead of him in the first place.

DQ is extremely harsh, if anything the stewards should have demoted Hamilton back to 4th in my opinion.

I think Hamilton has been treated disgracefully by the stewards, particularly in Spa and Melbourne.

Hi Murray, do you think that in the 21st century in a new age of formula one, that it could be possible to have race stewards that might know how to do their jobs in the right way ! and not muck around so much with the race results because they can not act on the information that is availible to them during a race weekend ! after the ups and downs of the last couple of years, it`s sad and supid to cast a shadow over such a fantastic race, with such poor inaction on the part of those responsible for sorting out any racing incidents, the Hamilton and Trulli carry on is just that ! ( carry on race stewards ) an amazing comedy full of human errors ! best regards sennamax .

In F1 as in life it seems we have been overrun by jobsworths following well intentioned rules to the letter when some common sense would surely be better for all concerned and especially for the wider perception of the sport.
The whole Hamilton/Trulli debacle has yet again ruined what could have been a great advert for F1 in the eyes the audience, be they Hamilton lovers or haters. The only reason Hamilton was so cautious in letting Trulli past again was because he was terrified of the stewards in the first place after some stupidly harsh decisions last season. Whether his team told him to let Trulli back past or not surely is neither here nor there...
Murray, I suppose it is too much to ask to go back to some common sense for the good of the sport? Surely just leaving Trulli 3rd and Hamilton 4th would have been the just decision in this case? Why give everyone below them an extra place as a result of the decision? It is so infuriating to find out nearly a week after a race that the result has changed, it makes me wonder how much longer some drivers will want to stay in the sport. What's your view Murray?

Who is it that the top two people involved with this racing dont like is itm Hamiliton or Mcclarens cause they are always penalising them far harder than anyone else. After all Truli only got a 25 sec pentalaty for over taking under the yellow flag but both the team and Hamiliton lose all there points. Why not just abolish this sport as it is the sport that is most corrupt. In Hamilitons first year Ecclestone said no way can a rookie win and Hamiliton was penalised for the least little thing and it is still happening and if it is Hamiliton they dont like I would suggest Button watch out you start winning and you will be penalised as well as they appear not to like ENGLISHMEN

Do you think it is asking too much of the FIA to come up with a set of regulations that are agreed before the start of the season and which the stewards can apply ON RACE DAY so that the fans of this great sport can see the results of races determined on the track and not in some back room days later?

With regards to yet another steward decision post race time (Hamilton now stripped of all points from Melbourne) - What is going on? From what I gather Stewards are now allowed access to all conversations between team and driver so why rely on Drivers (Hamilton's) words at a hearing - surely it is their mistake not have looked at all the evidence available and to have come to the wrong conclusions initially. This is the whole idea of refereeing in other sports - you don't rely on other peoples/players opinions you look at the evidence - which looks to me was there all along.. Ok put Hamilton back to 4th if required but to take away all his hard earned points is ludicrous - Something is wrong somewhere!

I thought DC made a good start and i thought his comments made a lot of sence, I have enjoyed looking around the web site and its great to see and hear gp highlights from years gone bye,

Hi Murray, just finished reading your autobiog for the second time, a great book that documents a fascinating life, although by its very nture it can only scratch the surface. What's your opinion of the latest McLaren situation? It seem that they are lurching from one ethical faut pas to another...is this team - which in the past has always seemed to be the paragon of professionalism - really a group of sly win-at-all-costs tricksters or are they the victims of a system that is bent on villifying them? F1 teams are in business and we know they all try to bend the rules to their own advantage...so how much of this attention is a witch hunt do you think? Or, conversely, have they just been foolish (i.e. got caught) more times than other teams?

I can't half feel that the FIA are becoming increasingly inconsistent with their judgements.
Even if you just look at this year's Australian GP, Kubica and Vettel colliding was heavily ruled against Vettel (in which I feel is fair enough), but Kubica didn't exactly give a reasonable amount of room when Vettel was alongside him and yet Robert gets away with no such penalty. I feel both should have been either penalised equally or both had their wrists slapped. The blame for the crash was about 50:50 in my book.
Then there is the Hamilton and Trulli issue where Trulli initially got a 25sec penalty because he overtook under the safety car. It then appears that Jarno went off giving Lewis the position - legally. McLaren then tell Lewis to give the Toyota back the place, in which is to McLaren's disadvantage. To me it seems the FIA have disqualified Hamilton because they penalised themselves, in which doesn't make sence to me. If I was making the decision, after reviewing the situation I would have given Trulli 3rd and Hamilton 4th. It's more embarrassing that it's taken almost a week to come up with a new verdict when nobody appealed and the footage and pit radio recordings could have been checked and final standings confirmed by the end of Monday.
That just covers the actual racing, without going into technical engineering politics of the diffuser grey area. Don't get me started on that. :-)
The FIA are getting worse rather than better. We need some fresh people to take over from Mosley and Ecclestone as clearly they've forgotten what good motor racing was like.

I presume we will now hear no more about diffusers as the Brawn cars and others have been declared legal in Aus.All cars should have been cleared before they even went to Aus. Hi Murray what can i say a legend mate a bloody legend i started off with the Raymond Baxter era and first heard yourself commentating on MotorBike Scrambling names like Dave Bickers Alan Lampkin etc ah those were the days.大象传媒 has always stood out for its Sport coverage and Formula 1 is no exception.Every year Grand Prix throws up something different and usually controversial this year has started off with Australia getting a taste of political intrigue and new kids on the block.I've been going to Grand Prix for years and let me tell you when i watch a race i want to learn that when you take the chequered flag that's it that's the winner. No stewards enquiry awaiting days for the final result when Jackie Stewart crossed the line in a Tyrell he won end of.Lewis Hamilton arrived on the scene a breath of fresh air we were looking for the next Nigell Mansell Damon Hill etc in my mind Lewis could have been world champion in his first year a learning curve with a touch of immaturity let him down and McClaren weren't entirely blameless either.Now we have Lewis caught up in more controversy taking orders from his seniors with team leader suspended and Martin Whitmarsh and Ron Dennis taking a back seat.I agree with Lewis he is not a liar but he is still wet behind the ears where politics are concerned all Lewis wants to do is drive cars and win races as at Spa last year he gets penalized for doing what comes natural.McClaren are having their name tarnished and Lewis and his family will not want to see underhand shenighans going on.Too much and i think Lewis will walk but to be honest are Ferrari anybetter when it comes to integrity.Which finally leads me to the Bear Ross Brawn what a genius to have in your camp he made Shumi tick and with luck and expertise the same for Jenson we know Button has the talent now hopefully he has the car a patient Jenson and Nick Fry have waited a long time for this moment alright it's not a Honda but hey! a Brawn will do nicely thanks very much.

Anyway the question is do you think it would be great to see F1 cars on the NW200 and TT circuits (obviously they would be smooth) and if racers were to face this challenge who do you think would come out on top.

On a completely different topic to the ongoing McLaren saga (will it ever end?!), I thought I would just ask two totally unrelated F1 questions.

In your opinion, what are the greatest tangible factors that makes a truly great sports commentator and furthermore, which commentator (contemporaries in other sports welcome), had biggest influence on your own style?

Not meaning to heap yet more praise on you, but my personal interest in Formula One waned in the late Schumacher years not because of the lack of overtaking or unpredictability of the "show" but mainly because of what I perceived to be a lack of quality in commentary. The commentary is something I find to be absolutely crucial to the armchair sporting experience - if I had the money I would go to the races but since I do not, I must rely on the commentator to communicate the experience to the viewer. And in this respect, I put you second to none in any sphere of sports commentary.

How much damage can results being decided some days after the racing has finished and all this fuss over the Brawns,Williams and Toyata cars which may yet still affect the final outcome of what you and us viewers/fans see on the TV this weekend do to the sport?

Like in many sports when it seems money and politics now seem to mix surely its not good to see drivers been punished and themselves unsure of if they have collected a win or even a point till a courtroom appeal decides so.

F1 needs to be entertaining on the track...not remembered as an event which actually doesn't seem to end once the chequered flag is waved!

I am sure you as a long term lover of the sport don't want to see its attraction disppear.

The question I have is not actually a question, more a 'can you help'.

It has not gone unnoticed that Jonathan Legard is suffering a little in his transition to TV commentating. I had never heard of Jonatahan before his arrival at the 大象传媒, with the wonderful Martin, but had surmised he had been commentating on horse racing in a local bookies, so alien was his delivery.

Could you please wrap an arm around him and encourage a polishing of his style? No-one could ever hope to emulate your past commentary prowess (personally, I think you have been the best ever), but I feel confident you could extract much more out of Jonathan as I feel he really does have the ability and talent, just the delivery that suffers.

I do hope you are in tip top health and will remain a leading light in the aura of the 大象传媒 team for some years to come.

the probability that it is not for mechanical reasons rather than a 'blunder'that the car immediately in front is going to return.

What is your views on the half point rule- do you think that full points should be rewarded regardless of laps completed?

The race in Malaysia was red flagged before the cars had even caught up with the safety car. Was the decision to red flag the race taken too early do you think? If not, why did they bother to send the safety car out? By the time the race was finally abandoned, the rain appeared to have stopped; given that the FIA have restarted races in far wetter conditions than those that the decision was made to abandon the race in Malaysia, are the FIA starting to pamper the drivers? The drivers have always complained about driving in wet conditions, it is only natural for them to try to persuede the officials to abandon the race, such complaints have historically been taken with a pinch of salt until now, why do you think the sudden change of heart?

Sorry to bother you and these my be a stupid question, But what is your thoughts on Mark Webber and Red bull raacing a team at Malaysia and What do you think about the part within regulation 41 鈥渢he results will be taken at the end of the penultimate lap before the lap during which the signal to suspend the race was given鈥�. If so why don't they just go back to where the Saftey Car came out.

If the Reason for going back to the lap before is for pit'in then doesn't that effect the other drivers that have Pitted the laps before whist the Safty Car is out???

What I'm wanting to ask is do you think Ferrari are still feeling the effects of losing key personnel such as Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn and Jean Todt? their decisions so far this season and others last season have been questionnable to say the least, with many of them backfiring- you have to believe that if Schumacher, Brawn and Todt were in the situations in question the decisions they would have made would have beeen the correct ones

in respect to Bernie's proposed controversial points system, does it not make sense ,to go back in part, to old scoring methods,i.e. scoring 13 or 14 out of the 17 races and maybe 11 or 12 points for a win and 8 for second to encourage the front runners to overtake each other. I'm sure this would get a better balance than the present system,and iron out some of the unfairness of the old system of 9 out of 16 races /9 points win - 6 points second .Bernie's system could see someone with 4 GP wins and no other finishes, world champion,and also cars designed to be quick at certain circuits and not feature at others

Caqm Maclaren bounce back ie be in the top five by the Chinese Grand prix ina fortnight

What do you think of the qualifying format in F1 these days? I remember when we had the 1 hour session and people would go out for their 3 lap runs and often led to the first 20 - 30 mins being boring - however the last 30 mins was enthralling. Would someone leave it to late, would a backmarker spoil a hot lap etc etc.

Although this season the qualifying has been slightly better than previous sessions, mainly due to its unpredictability, I still feel that Q1 and Q2 are pointless and a waste of time and the fuel burning phase in Q3 is the same.

Therefore I suggest bringing back the old format and possibly cutting the time to 45 mins to ensure that there are no longer the first 30 mins of no action. This also ensures that the drivers with the fastest times are on pole rather than the lightest fuel loads.

I would like to see this discussed on the F1 show as feel that the qualifying is overcomplicated for what it is.

Hello Murray, do you think that Ferrari will catch up with the likes of Brawn and Toyota and win another title this year after a horrible start to the season? They done it last year but Raikkonen had won in Malaysia. However, so far this year they still don't have a point.

I Know i asked this question last week but what do you think off the late local start time as i felt that this race was ruined by the fact that it was so late meaning it rained thus finishing the race far to early. I think the race was really good and the rain did add somthing but i also thought that it was far too dark when the two hours were up.
I think its great for F1 that more people are tunning into the races but at what costs driver saftey.
I thought that Brawn GP was great all weekend and i think they were hidding there pace during practice to save there engines as they really don't know how relible they are. The team deserves alot off credit and i'm really glad they are winning.

I think that the Brawn team have really out performed the big boys of Ferrari and McLaren and it just shows what can be achieved when everyone gets it first time. However, I also think that Ferrari and McLaren will fight back and very soon. Sure they haven鈥檛 got it right (at the moment) but a couple of weeks is a long time in F1.
Please don鈥檛 get me wrong I鈥檓 all for new blood winning and I think Jenson deserves these two wins, but is it realistic at this stage to be talking of a new World Champion?

Given that it seems that McLaren only have to sneeze to have a penalty, whether they have done anything wrong with the car or on the track or not, why is it that Ferrari are allowed to break at least the spirit of the law every time they leave the garage with their thinly veiled cigarette advertising?

Hello Murray, do you think the half points awarded today could cause a problem if the Bernie Ecclestone system of "most race wins to be champion" comes in?
Surely any driver with 5 full-race wins will expect to be put above a driver with 4 full-race wins and a "half win". Do you think Bernie's considered this scenario? Or is it more work for the F1 lawyers ??

So glad grand prix is back where it belongs...THAT music (is there any other really?) super commentary team especially Martin who explains the techno so plainly...but please oh PLEASE! could you make the graphics at the bottom of the screen during the race a bit bigger? Us old and faithful watchers who do not have gigantic screens have to peer forwards to read who is where and done what. Don't think it will spoil the action..it never did before and will save countless trips to the Docs with ricked necks!!

Renault are in a sticky situation at the moment with downforce problems and no diffuser.

At Malaysia though despite this and the fact Fernando Alonso had an ear infection, he still managed to out qualify his Team-mate drastically and got to qualy three before being as high as third at one point in the race, does this show that Fernando is the best driver on the grid or that Nelson Piquet Junior is out of his depth somewhat in the Renault?

Good to see you involved with F1 coverage again, any chance you'll be in the commentary box at Silverstone this year?

It's great to see both British drivers doing well this season, last year there was a great rivalry between Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen bringing back memories of the Prost, Senna & Mansell rivalry of the 80's. Jenson Button has been awesome in the first couple of races this season, who do you think will be his main rival for the season? Or do you think it will be more open with any number of drivers standing a chance of winning the title?
