I think though the argument about the Schumacher incident was did the race actually finish under the safety car, or did it just so happen that it was a race restart and by chance it was the last lap at which the safety car was going back into the pits on? In which case the overtake would have been legal.

The green flags and lack of SC signs at the end of the race would suggest it was the latter.

I suppose we will just have to write off the Schumi incident as we have so many other incidents caused by poor regulations.

For my 2 pennies I want the stewards to be able to throw the regulations out the window when they are so poorly worded and give a ruling that doesn't penalise people for racing. At the worst Schumi should have been dropped back behind Alonso.

I think its daft when poor regulations punish drivers!

Murray - it was Karun's HRT (not a McLaren) that ran over Rubens' steering wheel, then the other HRT . . . and the wheel still worked afterwards!

and tbh, i think the rules are quite clear on this schumacher overtake:
If the race ends under the safety car, then on the last lap it pulls in and the rest of the cars finish the race without overtaking as if there was a safety car infront anyway. But in monaco, the race did not finish under the safety car because race control ordered it to come in on the final lap. So, the safety car came in before the last corner, so the cars were fully racing until they reached the finish line...which means that schumacher's move was legitimate.

I hope my explanation was clear enough.

why is it above the bbc to notice that the car that ran over the steering wheel was a hispanic car, martin pointed it out in the f1 forum, but jake insisted it was a mclaren and it seems to have stuck, has none of the bbc f1 production people looked at the video. There is clearly writing down the side (white) the names of the drivers, mclaren has a vodaphone red strip and wite logo! GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!

Regarding the last lap incident. I realise I'm in a minority of one on this one but I do think the rule is crystal clear. It therefore worries me that the race officials and Mercedes don't appear understand it.

Not only Rubens Barichello through his steering wheel during the Monaco race on sunday but also Jenson Button through the Tv remote control on track left on his car in qualifying on saturday. what do you make of that Murray?

I notice at the Monaco GP that when Rubens Barrichello had his accident due to the loose drain cover, he threw out his steering wheel in disgust, which was then run over by a following car - isn't this dangerous as surely it could have caused a serious incident ? How comes Barrichello was disciplined in any way ?

There is only one voice for Fomula 1, Murray, and it is a great shame we don't still benefit from your live coverage on race day - come on ´óÏó´«Ã½, sort it out !

I don't think there's anything bad about the safety Car, look at the safety record in F1 over the last 10 years?. we need it, and it has to happen....plus it shakes up the field and gives drivers who could of been 10 or 15 secs behind the Car in front of them back into play.

Its funny how ruben's dangerous 'hissy-fit' gets put down to 'the weakness of human nature'. Surely an experienced & aged driver like Ruben's is mature enough not to do something so extraordinarily dangerous. Such dangerous acts like that should not be excused for any reason whatsoever.
I cant help feeling that if that was someone like Lewis..he would have the book thrown at him, the FIA, media & his haters vying for his blood.
Im quite flaberghasted that Murray tried to justify at the end.

Also quite surprised that even a week later & Murray still thinks its a McLaren that ran over the steering-wheel. But thats Murray for you lol.

With the design of the Redbull exhaust, should we beleive they are using it as a rocket launcher to get the extra second???

I wanted to ask if you think Williams will ever challenge for race wins again? Season after season they just seem to be producing uncompetitive cars. With their pedigree of winning championships surely they should be doing better. And now the talented Nico Rosberg has gone to Mercedes - it feels like they're going backwards! Plus Cosworth on the engine front never seem to deliver a competive package - is it time the team tried wooing the likes of Renault back to the fold with whom they had so much success in the past? It's working for Red Bull at the moment and Kubica is looking feisty too after his podium finish!!

I agree that the rules have to be looked at with reference to the Shuey overtake but I think the punishment on him was totally wrong It should be the team that gets the punishment not the driver in this instance and I think shuey should be allowed to be in 6th place.

Murray do you think that the interview with Sir Stirling Moss was handled with the right level of professionalism and respect that should be granted to a living legend. This was for me summed up by the ill informed last minute comment from Jake Humphrey that Sir Stirling had not won a British Grand Prix was both disrespectful and incorrect, fortunately Eddie Irving corrected this.

This seems to sum up the general lack of expertise in the pre-race offer from the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

I do not understand why commentators keep waxing lyricals about a car i.e. Red Bull in Formula 1. It's the drivers who are on the podium at the end of the race not the cars!

All I heard about from you was Red Bull and Red Bull drivers I support our English Drivers i.e. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button they are who I want to hear about. I know Red Bull is English but their drivers aren't, and as I have said they are the one's on the podium at the end of the race.

I would like to ask a question for the race back in China, which was mentioned on today's broadcast.

Back then Hamilton just cut the road to pit stops after he had passed the pit stop entrance. He just decided to go for the pits after having passed the entrance, in a move that seemed out of the blue.

I would like to ask if this was a dangerous move and if Hamilton should have gotten a penalty.

If you can please have a look at the incident and it would be great if this could be commented on the next race.

The new safety car regulations that came in today were stupid. It left racers like Rosberg and Jens behing behind three or four tail-end Charlies, such that after the first lap, Nico was 5 or 6 secs behind Lewis.
What do you think? Shouldn't they go past the sc to the back of the pack?
And also, is Alonso as hated by the other drivers as it appears? His driving today was useless.

hello murray,in the early to mid 90's when jean alesi and gerhard berger where drivind for ferrari the car numbers where 27 and 28 even though they finished higher in the constructers championship. other cars where numbered in the order they finished.did they swap with another team or.maybe you could help thanks

I think the decision today with alonso was harsh but fair that is the rules he gained an advantage if he had given the posistion back staight away he would not of had any problem and would of passed him the next lap anyway well done to lewis and jenson great job. we still miss you murray

Sir! You, of course, won't remember but one of my treasured memories is a talk given by you to a roomful of fellow racers at the Killarney racetrack, Cape Town around 2001. You held us all captivated for a good 2 hours! You are a born raconteur and one of my "claims-to-fame" is that I raced in my Jaguar C-Type replica the next day and you contributed to the commentary!

Hi Murray, I remember you from the Blue Peter days when they covered F1 with well made scalectric cars. I'm in my mid fifties now and I have just re-read Life at the Limit by Graham Hill after about 40 years. Is F1 going backwards, this moveable rear wing is not new, Colin Chapman employed it on the high wing of the Lotus 49b in 1968 and early 1969 before they were banned. But I must admit after China the most exciting race I have seen in a long time. It must prove that Colin was so far ahead of his time, his loss to F1 is greatly missed?
