The 大象传媒's "creative future" - live on this blog

You might be interested to know that the 大象传媒 bosses are making a big set of announcements about what you'll see on your TV set, computer, iPod and mobile phone in future. They've managed to spin it so that the story about Grandstand being axed is the top line but expect a lot more far reaching stuff than that. I don't usually blog about internal stuff but you lot are paying for this - and it might be the last strategic revamp the 大象传媒 goes through before digital communications kill the old idea of "broadcasting" - ie one source of information going to many people at the same time...
...at present I am watching a test card on our internal system, called the "ringmain", a Signer is limbering up to interpret in a little box at the corner of the screen. And there is a reassuringly Orwellian high pitched tone coming out of my headphones. Soon it will be replaced by my boss, Mark Thompson.
Regular updates to follow...

This is fascinating stuff Paul - a number of 'us great unwashed' (I'm poking fun at myself) are speculating about how the 大象传媒 transitions to a commercially funded organisation while retaining its public service remit.
My personal take is that it is possible but it will be a neat trick to pull off, given the deep cultural ethos that underpins the way the 大象传媒 operates. To make this viable over the long haul will mean the partial decomposition of the 'traditional' organisation structures inside the Beeb. A tough one to pull off methinks.
