reid1_203.jpgJohn Reid gave himself 100 days to sort out the Home Office – has he succeeded? Is it time to allow people to buy a kidney if they need it? And a look at – who has the best education service in the world? Comment on below.

In Newsnight's preview for tonight show it ask's 'Has Mr Reid delivered? And is the man who has had seven Cabinet jobs now a contender for the big one?'

I really hope that Newsnight ask if John Reid has delivered in any of his preivous Cabinet jobs? Can the current difficulties in the Health Department and Ministry of Defence be traced back to decisions taken by the so-called 'Enforcer'? Also on what bases do the so-called political experts argue that Mr Reid is a contender to be Labour Leader? Will Newsnight be able to get a single Labour MP or Labour party member that would support the idea of John Reid running for the leadership? The very fact that John Reid was given an endorsement by Simon Heffer should end his leadership ambitions.

If John Reid has done nothing else he has blown the gaff on the scandal and complacency of previous Home Office ministers in pretending that all is well and under control. But unless he puts a complete embargo on any further immigration while the present chaos and mess are sorted out, then he is little better than his predecessors. I expect he will try to put on a confident response to your Newsnight questioner.
Try asking him how it is that a 74-year old indigenous Englishman, who served his country and exchequer for over 55 years of fully-taxed work, (i) is now taxed on his pension to provide benefits for newcomers;
(ii) has been refuse entry for two of his relatives (I'm married to a Filipina) and has had to fight appeals for them over the past 3 years - during which time hundreds of thousands of immigrants have been allowed entry without any sponsorship, funding or invite from anyone; and (iii)I have been waiting for 3 months for diagnosis of a chronic gastric condition, losing over 10% of my body weight- probably because doctors and hospitals have stated that they feel obliged to treat all immigrants (legal or otherwise) as they cannot tell their true status and fear malpractice claims. Isn't it time we rewarded the contribution by giving some priority to indigenous elderly folk over immigrants?

Programme so far misses the point that John Reid is being made ready to be the perfect leader of the opposition. ne who can successfully debate with the PM on all issues.

know what i'm saying ?

the steady 'lets go u.s.' machine rotates round on its continuing cycles towards a very scary future

prediction:

john reid becomes pm

john reid presides over the war on iran to come

millions protest another war in good time to stop it

they are not heard

the police attacking, beating and incapacitating them with sound weapons look more and more like waffen SS

then, maybe then, enough people, too many people for our despotic leaders to be able to stop, decide they've had enough

but they'll be even less able to affect change than they are today

i hope that while we're all laughing at alex jones, he isn't being proven right...anyone know if john reid has passed builderberg vetting yet ? like all our previous leaders ?

it's just a harmless club remember

of course i'm being controversial

of course i'm wrong

i just hope the future can agree

Excellent piece on John Reid's leadership skills ...and hot on the heels of the resurrection and re-death of the Gordaq!
If all this doesn't goad Gordon Brown into making some leadership noise then nothing will.
True agenda-setting journalism - well done Newsnight!

Immigration and crime has been a massive problem for years and to expect John Reid to have sorted this all out in 100 days is childish in the extreme.

Siobhain McDonagh MP was clear and realistic.

Imagine the state we'd be in without the economic growth and strength we currently have.

For some reason I don't remember anything about kidneys tonight. Maybe mine are malfunctioning after a couple of glasses of wine. No matter.

Anyway, Newsnight on the last day of August did stick to the old formula of three stories, except that I suspect that kidney failure was replaced by the screaming monk.

No, no, I don't mean about John Reid. What I mean about him is: "dinnee do well while the PM was away?". Well he did. But comparison with Pressflesh was invidious from the start. Now that he's pushed another rather rotund gent, Charles Clarke, into the thickets of oblivion, he's got to prove he can produce the goods. Even though he's an ex-Commie and has now abandoned the dictatorship of the proletariat for a run for number ten.

The pro- and anti-kampf really did start a bit of blood-spitting. The debate was pretty farcical, verging on a quarrel. The only one who came out decent like was y'r actual member of the working classes, Brian Caton, who sounded as if he meant what he said. The other two just bickered from vastly privileged positions. There are too many middle-class people claiming to represent the interests of the working classes.

What a scream. This comment is nearly as tiresome as those which imply that "Madonna" is a lesser painting than "The Scream". Maybe people have got a downer on the name ços it reminds them of the Evita kabbalist. As someone with some thirty years of appreciation of Edvard Munch, I find all this robbery and recovery hoo-hah vastly overdone. Try appreciating the paintings for a change.

And then Qatar, which Kirsty mispronounced in the predictable way. ('Scuse me while I clear my nose.) If your report was meant to demonstrate that ladies have to wrap themselves up, and that no schoolgirls are allowed on camera in that democratic Gulf state, then good on you, Newsnight. But James O'Shaughnessy's report did smack of the westerner, trying to understand (great cerebral word) the local culture, and going all woozy relativist. Subjects taught in English are fine, but is this also the future of British schools, i.e. the eyes and gloves way that lady teachers have to behave?

As for Airfix, I used to get the glue all over my fingers, which ruined the transparency of, for instance, the glass rooflet over the pilot's seat. No matter, many other things have become translucent, rather than transparent, over the following decades.

John Reid+ 100days, has delivered a load of the same regurgitated rhetoric so beloved by NL, very little of substance!(when does he explain just why those carry -on bags had to fit the Box!!)& what about the new prisons? & just how long before he swaps jobs?, again, again, again... your guest Blairite MP,(doing the rounds) was incandescent with rage, & it showed, if the other guests said anything about her nearest & dearest(well refereed by Kirsty)..no matter that Blair & cahoots are accelerating/ allowing the "REAL Labour" party to wither & die!

John Reid gave himself 100 days to sort out the Home Office, but during that time has announced an extra 8,000 extra prison places, at a cost of £800m. This is short-term populism at its worst. Overall crime has fallen 44% in the last decade, is stable this year, and murder is down. Furthermore, prison doesn't work. Wouldn't it be better to spend taxpayers' money on much needed mental health, and drug and alcohol treatment facilities?
