I wait with baited breath for the usual "this panelist is a..." or "the bbc is full of oxbridge...", but frankly I can't think of anywhere where an amazing book like William Boyd's Restless will be reviewed by an panel of informed, educated people who really have the chance to say what they think live on television.

"black dahlia" - to my recollection it is correctly pronounced "day - lee - ahh" - Martha Kearney pronounced it "Darrr - leee- ahh" - ouch!!!

Yes, I noticed that Martha Kearney could not pronounce the everyday word "dahlia". Perhaps she's never been in a garden.

The 大象传媒 used to have a pronunciation department but if it still exists it confines itself to arabic and Brazilian names which presenters must be made to drill in like pre comprehensive schoolchildren.

Dahlia I suspect looked to Martha like Dahl as in Roald so she went for it accordingly.

Unfortunately mispronunciation and bad grammar are endemic and chronic and ample evidence of a dumbed down education. eg nobody is sitting any more. People are sat

On the Pope, many people in Miami Florida have reacted angrily to the Muslim backlash against Benedict XVI. Some have even seen the axis between Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela as part of the threat. Others say that the Governments of Iran, Cuba, Venezuela have something in common [as puppets of the Republican/Democratic Dictatorship in USA].

Thanks to all the viewers who thought I couldn't pronounce the simple word "dahlia". True, I have made some stupid mistakes on air in the past but in this case I was using the American pronunciation which is used throughout the film (as I explained in the Newsnight e-mail of that day). In fact I am a big fan of the British DAY-lia in particular the Bishop of Llandaff variety.

Can anybody please tell me what the Newsnight Review panel had to say about The Black Dahlia? I just missed it, and unfortunately the programme is not repeated (as far as I am aware). Were opinions divided?

I suppose the Review likes to show how extensive its tastes are, but Scissor Hands was definitely one for the teenage market. It sounded like supermarket muzac to me.Please stick to the book reviews, which are Newsnight at its best.

Thank you so much for highlighting the Leonard Da Vinci exhibition.I am a parent of two science mad eleven year olds who think art is only for girls, but we are planning a special trip from Doncaster to see it-they were just fascinated by the drawings in your review.

I missed the review of the Scissor Sisters album and sadly this site no longer shows the review in script form. Can I get the review somehow?
