It's been called "Super" Thursday - with voting in England, Wales and Scotland - so tonight we devote the programme to an extended UK election special.
David Grossman is travelling from north Wales to the central belt of Scotland via the north west of England to gauge reaction from voters. Jeremy Vine will be outlining the results of a specially commissioned Newsnight opinion poll from his virtual reality studio. Gavin Esler is at Alex Salmond's count in Aberdeen. Will Mr Salmond be Scotland's new first minister?
One man who already holds that title for Northern Ireland is Ian Paisley - he'll be telling us just how he expects to get on with his Sinn Fein deputy first minister.
And it will all be hosted by . He'll be quizzing the politicians from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Election studio - or that is where he'll start the programme. He'll finish in another studio entirely. It's worth watching just to see if he makes it - or whether for the first time ever Jeremy "empty chairs" himself delayed in a ´óÏó´«Ã½ corridor. You really can't miss this one.
Comments, as ever, are welcome below.

I'm so glad, that on such an important night, Jeremy Paxman will be the presenter.
His hard-hitting, straight, no-nonsense interview style is truly remarkable!
Keep up the excellent work, and keep pressuring the politicians for real and straight answers!
Good Luck!
Lucy.

Why do Newsnight commentators continue to refer to the bleak tory prospects in ''The North'' when they control with Liberal Democrats the City of Leeds which is not only the 2nd largest metro council in England but also the largest city by far in ''The North''and its economic capital???

The only thing more dewy eyed & pure fanciful nonsense than our dying breed of minority British Socialists dreaming of the failing French Socialist model (which they cannot wait to ditch) is Scottish Nationalism.
This shortbread dream, propped up by the one man band of Alex Salmond, the supposed reformed die-hard Socialist, leading a rag tail group of republican left wingers.
Don’t think canny scots/brits enmasse will buy into Salmond repositioned 'Brand' & unworkable & uneconomic fantasises.
Scottish Nationalism …..
- Touted by a Smirking Socialist.
- Propped up by Socialists
- Socialists with agenda.
- Unworkable & Unaffordable agenda.
SNP …. minnows who have never run anything of consequence.
With the next UK Prime Minster being a Scott - BROWN
With the leader of official opposition being called CAMERON
With the leader of next largest opposition party called CAMPBELL
… the Scots are hardly underrepresented repressed.

Dear Newsnight,
always love the programme. Tonight however, I was amazed that your reporter doing his three country dash to check up on the voting, got in his car, started the engine and then drove off without his seatbelt.
Tut tut. What a bad example.

Brilliant Jeremy (20/10) & Co. I was in fits of giggles again at Jeremy's remark (referring to somewhere in Scotland) on peeling oranges in their trouser pockets!!!Ha ha ha ha ha. Superb graphics on Jeremy Vine's spot - particularly loved the tennis graphic which Lord Falconer didn't seem to understand. Jeremy suggested remedial classes. Fantastic!!!!!! :-)

Why does the presence of graphics and the need to present them to the public often seem to entail the presenters doing a sort of song-and-dance act? I was completely bemused by Jeremy Vine's antics - repeated on ´óÏó´«Ã½1's election coverage later - did he get the script from the Ministry of Funny Walks?

i enjoyed newsnight because it was not biased against tony blair, unlike many other media outlets,i truly believe tony blair to be the best pm we will see for decades,he has opened up politics and made other parties take stock and change, iraq was not a mistake!,iran wants it to be and works to that end, iranian insurgents are killing iraqis alongside british and us troops, does this shock anyone?,they and the uk media are winning political wars against the west!, palestinians are favoured against israel for retaliation?,it seems that the media is running the country,i do hope the owners are not communist or extremists, although this would not be surprising!,remember the supergun tubes made in the uk that were siezed, make no mistake saddam would have in a heartbeat attack israel as he has done before, how long it would have taken for israel to have little choice but to use nuclear weapons in the region where she is hated for no other reason than being non arab,we would all be suffering untold hardship because oil from the middle east would have been contaminated!,i believe tony blairs legacy will come in years to come, perhaps beyond his lifetime!when iraq welcomes tourism and becomes a democracy worthy of the west,it may very well pacify the area of the oil producing states to a point that we could all disarm with ease,a merseysider who thinks tony blair is a man never to be equaled in modern day politics, chances are he may have bettered leaders even though they will never admit it!peter,a very sad voter.
