IRAQ
iraq_soldiers203x100.jpgDid British soldiers really in southern Iraq, as was claimed in a press conference today? Lawyers published a dossier concerning the aftermath of a gun battle in 2004 known as "The Battle of Danny Boy" named after the checkpoint where it took place. But how reliable is the evidence, based on the accounts of Iraqi civilians who were blindfolded at the time?

OBAMA
Who is Barack Obama? He is now definitively the front runner for the Democratic nomination, although Hillary Clinton may make an Alamo-like last stand in Texas and Ohio in ten days. But if it really is Obama versus McCain in November, what kind of contest is that shaping up to be? And will the Republicans simply paint Obama as the most left wing Democratic candidate for 40 years? We'll hear live from a top Obama adviser, Senator .

"All In The Mind"
has written a work of fiction - no not another Government dossier - but a novel about a psychiatrist "his patients and family, and the pressures they bring to bear upon each other鈥. So can Alastair become a successful man of letters? We interview him live on the programme.

The details of the Battle of Danny Boy are described vividly by British soldiers in 2006 in Dusty Warriors by Richard Holmes, available at all good bookshops. The allegations have been well publicised since 2004 and anyone with a modicum of sense, watever their view on the war, can understand that they are ridiculous. I wont even dignify the allegations with an explanation for their rebuttal. No doubt those who want to, Galloway et al, will not be swayed by a little thing like lack of evidence. These lawyers have blackened the name of their country with totally unsubstantiated allegations in order to add to their overinflated wage packets.

Please don't give Campbell the oxygen of publicity except to answer questions on his role on lying to the British public on the lead up to war.

What on earth were you thinking about? I firmly think we deserve an explanation on your next blog and please don't be mealy mouthed and tell us how you thought we'd find his book interesting. We have a whole half hour for reviews on a Friday, so why waste a portion of the news programme on this odious character?

The report on the Battle of Danny Boy raather reminded me of the 大象传媒 report on the Daily Mirror photos of troops beating up Iraquis. Reported by the 大象传媒 almost as fact when it was obvious that they were fakes. Same with this report. As the 大象传媒 is pretty well a government mouthpiece these days one assumes that some government official wants to discredit the Army for some reason and told the compliant souls at the 大象传媒 to run this report. Then Alistair Campbell pops up for a free plug for his book. You should be ashamed of yourselves at Newsnight.

大象传媒 THEATRE (redacted)

That the 大象传媒 鈥 Britain鈥檚 voice 鈥 should interview Alastair Campbell 鈥 Blair鈥檚 xxxx xxxx 鈥 because he has (again) written some fiction for personal satisfaction, beggars reality.
That I am shouting impotently to cyberspace, along with others above, demonstrates the dereliction of democracy in this country. Life is now a nihilistic game 鈥 and all must play their part.

To say I was rendered speechless last night when Alistair Campbell came on your programme is putting it mildly. This is a man who harried and bullied the 大象传媒 during his time in Downing Street. His warm and chumsy greeting from Gavin Esler was nauseating in the extreme and that you should give Campbell the time of day, far less promote his new book, is sickening to say the least. Frankly, I think the whole episode is disgraceful and you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. Incidentally, I switched channels within seconds of Campbell's appearance.

Let's try again. The piece about Danny Boy could hardly have been worse. It was only next day when I read the papers that I realised that the Red Cross had also investigated these complaints but I do not recall your piece mentioning it. So years after an incident where shot and shell were flying everywhere we go for the blame-the-poor-soldier game using allegations made by a culture whose perception of truth varies from ours(I have done time in the Gulf)promoted by a media-legal establishment most of whom would run a mile when the guns begin to shoot. We send young men out to do our dirty work for us and then traduce them. A previous generation of 大象传媒 staffers would not have touched that story with a bargepole and neither should today's.

Can something not be done about the echo on this blog - posts 6,7,8 and 9?

It also happened a few days ago when five posts were repeated word for word and one appeared five times.

I'm not trying to stifle debate - rather to encourage it - but it's not helpful seeing identical posts repeated.
