Talk about Newsnight

Latest programme

Prospects: Wednesday, 6 Februrary, 2008

  • Newsnight
  • 6 Feb 08, 10:34 AM

Today's programme producer is Carol Rubra - here is her early email to the production team.

Super Tuesday
We'll spend a chunk of the programme looking at what happened on Super Tuesday. Gavin will co-present from Washington, Kirsty is here, while David and Ben are in LA (watch David's latest videoblog on the ).
We have a pre-recorded interview with Stan Greenberg and a live discussion.

But there are other stories around too. Let's talk in the meeting about which we should do and how:
Afghanistan - a "critical week" with more troops being announced today and new figures on the opium trade;
Intercept evidence to be used in trials;
Proposals to change law on under-age drinking in public places;
PMQs;
and we have an interview with Shy Keenan.

What would you like to see on the programme?

OVERLOAD EVERYDAY

I take an interest in people, politics and "the human condition" but STILL have had my fill of the American news. At whom is all this coverage aimed? Is it just an indulgence of the "reporting classes"?

Totally agree Barrie.
Endless and meaningless talking heads and junketing, giving yet more access to 'our' media, to those who already enjoy far too much. A week or so ago, 'Daily Politics' had a 'person in the street' on the programme to comment on Jacqui Smith's 'Do you feel safe on the streets at night? tosh. The lady was there in her anorak, hadn't had a makeover and told the excellent and 'taking no ministerial prisoners' Andrew Neil that she "didn't feel safe in the daytime love!" How different from Oprah or Rubin raising their profiles still further.
Please Caroland all at Newsnight, when the country is seething with discontent at our politics and politicians, can't we kick the door off the hinges and go **** or bust. When people are phoning Radio 5 to advocate crooked MP's being flogged through the sreets, and then PMQ's come and go with no mention of MPs' expenses, people will tune in to hear the programme going for the throat on issues.

GOOD GRIEF!

Now Jacqui is "baffled" by the behaviour of another group of her "charges" who treat alcohol lightly. Hello? Jacqui? Government is in bed with the stuff and lives off its sale (shades of prostitution). The list of "what Jacqui doesn't understand" grows daily. Cleavage - Kebabs - what next I wonder. Perhaps it takes a man to understand crime, violence (cleavage?)and nihilsm? Yeah! That would be it.
