Hello All,
Amazing acting from Tom Conti as the Mexican Ambassador in tonight's drama from . It reveals the tough tactics used at the UN in order to get backing or block the war in Iraq. And it also highlights the bugging of the Ambassadors that went on. All points we'll put to Jeremy Greenstock - our Ambassador at the time - and Juan Gabriel Valdes who was the Chilean Ambassador. It'll be interesting to see whether they can agree now - having not agreed at the time.
What else should we do today?
Is there any more fall out from the budget that we should do?
What about the Carlyle group's mortgage fund? It is going bust. And it might be the first of a few. Stephanie has agreed to explain.
We've also got a film from Iran ahead of their elections tomorrow AND a film from the School Swap in Bradford - Bradford Utd.

some cynics might say credit is being withheld to make funds go under so that their assets can be bought for bargain prices. This really is a shark pool.
once all the in debt dead meat walking has been snaffled up the indicies will begin to pick up again.
some manufacturers at the boat show [boat sales being a canary of the economy] have 3 year full order books. So its only grim if you are in debt or have a business model that relies on debt.

WHAM
For some time I have been thinking of forming the White Heterosexual Anglo-Saxon Male brotherhood (WHAM). Perhaps now that the Southall Black Sisters have lost their funding, it might come my way? The brotherhood would demand absolute humbugophobia of its members, and decry the 鈥淏lack and White Minstrel Show鈥 as an affront to Anglo-Saxon males. We hope to hold an annual: 鈥淓noch was White鈥 festival in which the funniest 鈥淣och Noch鈥 joke receives a prize comprising a Black Pudding and an illegal pound of tripe. There will be a 拢1,000,000 prize for the capture, alive, of a prejudice-free bloke, of any nationality or creed; cosmic aliens and the Archbishop of Canterbury excluded. Any members found forming splinter groups, e.g. The Very White but Ginger Male group (Phil Hammond I鈥檓 watching you) or the Orange Face but White Underneath Male group (likewise the all orange politicians) will be looked upon askance - as throughout time immemorial - and treated the way blokes always treat 鈥渂lokes of difference鈥. Our patron will be Mother Nature who, as we all know, just loves a stereotype.

I'm pretty fed up with Jeremy Greenstock saying that the UN didn't require a second resolution in order to authorise the invasion.
Perhaps someone could remind him that, during the negotiations for UN SCR 1441, it was explicitly stated that there was "no automaticity" for an invasion and authorisation would have to be sought from the Security Council.
Knowing that the pre-war intelligence was "sexed up" and the Downing Street memo stated that "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy", we know that the UN route was merely a facade and that the US (and UK) were invading anyway.
