From tonight's presenter, :

Today's Quote for the Day comes from Gordon Brown: "I am determined that we stick to our principles."

gord2_203100.jpgThe prime minister was speaking about government plans to allow the police to detain terror suspects for up to 42 days without charge. In taking such a stand, just what kind of risk is the prime minister running? Is there an electoral strategy behind it? Michael Crick investigates and we'll be talking to the government.

Banks in bother?

More bad news for the banking industry. Bradford and Bingley shares fell sharply today after news that it made a loss and it's blaming problems with the buy-to-let market. Could other banks be in similar trouble? And is the announcement that it has sold more than 20 per cent of the bank to an American private equity group a sign that banks are at the bottom of the market - and now is the time to buy on the cheap?

US election

Hillary Clinton keeps clocking up wins in the primaries but the mathematics still mean it is Barack Obama who will secure the Democratic nomination for president. We've a report from Peter Marshall in Washington, and I've been talking to Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton's former National Security Adviser and long-term friend of the Clinton family. Mr Berger tells me that these are the most dangerous times for a new US president since Franklin Roosevelt first took power in 1933 - faced with Mussolini, Stalin, the Rise of Hitler, and the Great Depression. What's his plan for the next president to follow?

Yves and Bo

And finally we were torn on whether to mark the death of Yves Saint Laurent or of guitar legend Bo Diddley. In the end we decided to do both. We have an interview with Yves Saint Laurent's friend and top shoe designer, Manolo Blahnik. And we'll end the show with Bo.

Gordon Brown should stop saying, 'I am determined' His determination does'nt matter. He really does'nt have a clue about the people of Britain. I am sorry, but if I get another 'charity' bag shoved through my letter box I think I will get cross.
Mr Brown should look to his own country instead of trying to save other countries who are wasting or money. Thankyou.

Kelly, that thought ocurred to me. Apart from supporting the natural disasters, which we must, through voluntary agencies like the Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children, when the country is short of cash Brown must do what we are all doing, cutting back on expenses, starting with all those 拢millions going into the Swiss accounts and pockets of some African leaders.

We might ask can we afford troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? We are becoming a third world nation so we must start acting like one, or as my mum used to say, cut our cloth according to our means.

I thought that generally tonight's show was a good one, some interesting (and infuriating) stuff on the 42 detention issue. But the key problem (which I think that the 大象传媒 constantly suffers from) is its failure to accurately cover the American election. Today the report said that Clinton was behind by "almost 300" delegates - this is misleading and wrong! In fact at the beginning of today (even last night after Puerto Rico) she was behind by only 176 delegates (see CNN and TIME) and whilst I admit that this is still a solid amount, it is a lot closer than the 大象传媒 is attempting to portray...its a shame that the pro-Obama media bias has managed to cross the Atlantic and find a home here. (I'm British btw)

What a beautiful tribute to Yves Saint Laurent tonight. Absolutely loved Madeline's report with Manolo talking about YSL and his "Le Smoking" collection having such a huge impact, and even how YSL had said that Manolo's shoe was perfect. :-)

Andr茅 Courr猫ges was the influential pioneer. Yves Saint-Laurent followed in his footsteps.

I'm Michael's producer and since your post have checked the condition of our Political Editor's uppers. They appear very well buffed to me.

We promise to monitor the issue....

the problems with the banks--is that they should have had more measurements against
