Car-on-Grave.jpgThere's a moral in , somewhere, for all of us. St Mary's, Wimbledon, has been making a little money on the side, charging tennis fans £20 . Unfortunately, some drivers appear to have parked in "inappropriate places". The church has apologized for any offence caused. The accidental parking lots were graves from the 18th and 18th century, and the vicar, the Rev Mary Bide, says no descendants of those buried there were traceable.

It's serendipity. What an idea. All they need is a giant screen and to install speakers in the tombstones and they could open up a drive in movie theater just like they had in the US in the 1950s and 1960s. Between the take from the movies and the food concessionaires, that could pay for the upkeep of the cemetary plots. I wonder what kind of movies they'd show. Horror flicks I'll bet. Lots of scary gothic Haloweeen stuff. How appropriate. Doctor Frankenstein robbing graves shown right in a cemetary.

So nobody alive today is visiting these graves to pay respects, isn't that what she's saying? Then this raises a very valid question: why haven't they bulldozed the graveyard in favour of building a car park? The purpose of a graveyard is so that people have a place to memorialize their loved ones, or their ancestors, isn't it? Maybe not. How long should a graveyard be ethically upheld until it's bulldozed?
