Tables turned

Nick Robinson | 12:37 UK time, Friday, 30 December 2005

Hope you're all having a good time. Here's something worth listening to - David Blunkett has a go as guest editor of the Today programme and turns the tables by interviewing John Humphrys. (You can hear it here.)

Hope your having a good festive period Nick. I herd the interesting Humphrys/Blunkett interview and agreed with much of what Humphrys said. It's always rather puzzeled me why folk are forever having a pop at the likes of Humphrys and Paxman. The ´óÏó´«Ã½ caters for a range of auidences and if the public do not like the agressive style of Humphrys or Paxman that can find alternative interviews on say Radio 5 Live or ´óÏó´«Ã½ Breakfast or switch to GMTV etc. I for one am a huge fan of Paxman and Humphrys and it's interesting that many of the public in survey's wished they were even more aggressive. The truth is that many Politicans come onto these shows well briefed by Party HQ and are happy to sit there for 10 minutes saying the party line does not really make for interesting listening or viewing?

As for Blair and Brown running the country they never did.
It is the faceless mandrins in Whitehall that do and always have.
No doubt that sinister Bush has his finger in the pie as well.

Humphrys' performance in the Blunkett interview will be good training material for potential internviewees!

I have to say that I find Humphrys irritating to the extreme.

I did smirk when I heard Cameron recently stop the interview mid-flow, as Humphrys in his inimitable style hardly allowed his interviewee to speak before firing yet another question off.

"Really John, it's like a machine gun..."

Nick, your style of retaining a polite but firm stance is far easier on the ear, and much less likely to stop a listener / viewer reaching for the 'off' button.
