A Deputy Editor's view

Hello I'm Tom Giles and I'm a Deputy Editor of Panorama - having previously worked as a producer-director on, among other things, Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain, This World, Horizon, Newsnight and, well, Panorama.

Exposure to the dynamic, fiery political blogosphere of the recent US Elections made me think it might be time for a Panorama editorial blog - primed to cover all things (vaguely) associated with the show - not least the decisions we make.

There is, of course, a potential downside, this sort of .

I should be so lucky...

The Panorama program tonight is the perfect example of why the show is too short at 30mins and why Jeremy Vine's presentation is completely pointless. Sending a reporter onto the frontline in the fight against terror to provide us the viewer with information of what is going on and she gets half an hour sandwiched in between Jeremy Vine......Why not ditch Vine, increase the time to an hour and let the reporter do the voice over and presentation??

This would be a much better format. A format I believe was used previously when Panorama was much, much better and far more informative.
