Hugh
Sykes impressed ANOTHER set of judges recently, as we mentioned on the programme last night. I spent a bit of time yesterday trying to upload some photos Hugh took, of the people who took part in his report, and the area it was recorded in. Sadly the files were too large, but thanks to help from Jeff, and a good night's sleep, I'm quietly hopeful these will upload. But they might be the size of a house or a postage stamp. As ever, please be kind regarding my technical wizardry.
More picture postcards are awaiting a scan. Stand by.
Eddie,
The photos are great.
Hail the new technowizard.
Glad you slept well - Did you try the herbal tea?
I hope the photos will go up onto flickr as well, They look really interesting....
So, Eric, will we get a newsletter today?
Good work, Hugh!
P.S. Did anyone catch Bremner Bird & Fortune last Saturday night?
Simply brilliant.
Looking forward to more pics. Anyone seen by
? I reckon Hugh Sykes would love it.

Who is Jeff? Can he be uploaded?
They look a goodly size to me - well done Jeff and the sandman...
weird!! I mentioned Joe Sacco to John H last night while answering his question about "graphic novels".
can't remember where.... there was a whole stream of 'bookclub'-like postings....
Has anyone seen the book by Bremner Bird & Fortune called "You are Here"? It's absolutely brilliant. Wonderful Build your own T Blair speech section - cut out the usual words & phrases -" I want you to trust me" "I feel passionately about this" "Look" "I really do" "I think it's important" etc etc put them in a hat, draw them out & you have a speech for any occasion. We found it so amusing my daughter copied it out & we sent it to a friend currently in one of the "peacekeeping" missions abroad. We send him Private Eye too but he keeps them hidden lest an American see them & take offence. Diplomacy huh?
So the blog is getting newspics. Is Lord Mair going to become a TV programme? Or will it be 'PM . . . the movie'?
I wrote a fascinating post on yesterday's DAB blog, but it's nowhere to be found. I wonder where it went? My theory is it's stuck in the wire somewhere between here and there. It WAS a bit long, but it didn't have any rude words in it. Unless 'Norfolk' is a rude word.
(I spose it depends how you say it - there's an adult drama group locally called "Norfolk 'n' Good" . . .)
If it IS stuck, then this one will get stuck behind it and start forming a blockage like something I shall need a sink-plunger for. And then it'll erupt at an unexpected moment in a noisome gurgle out of my CD-loading slot. I think maybe it would be a good idea if I went out.
Love to all, anyway. Has it stopped raining yet?
Hi there, Lady P
Clearly the website needs a bag of soda to be flushed down the tube, so here goes
SSSSSS-OOOOOOOO-DDDDDDD-AAAAAAA
Best be sure the 'Aaas' come out or it will be a rude word.
On second thoughts, 'Aaas' might be interpreted that way, too.
Hope that's got it 'sorted' now.
Lady P (8) - how refreshing to read the ponderings of a techie on here. I believe that if the blockage doesn't clear itself as you describe, you can get some really fine rods that can be used to purge the wires. It's more of a problem if you're using a wireless connection, but you can use air freshener, sprayed liberally between the PC and the router.
That was bizarre about the "Joe Sacco" thing, wasn't it? Coincidence or conspiracy? It happened the other day with TP too. Anybody read any Douglas Hofstadter?
I haven't had any further thoughts to share with you yet. It's a slow day.
Perhaps, Lady P, it was a bloggage?
One other thing you can try is unplugging the modem cable and blowing down it. That should dislodge any stuck emails....
John H:
"Anybody read any Douglas Hofstadter?"
No, but it looks interesting, especially Hofstadter's law...Thanks. (and to wiki)
btw the Sacco affair wasn't conspiracy, but it might have been influenced by Powers of which we know little.

Bloggage (11)! Dammit. Wish I'd thought of that. Love the tinywire, air freshener and blowing ideas, too - I'll keep them handy just in case . . .
I KNEW I could count on you guys. Talk about powerful insights . . .
Don't laugh folks, but when my router won't let me connect (quite often), the only thing that sorts it is to unplug from the wall and let the plug cool down. S.O. scoffs and says this is technically impossible - but it does it for me!
Valery (15), I can quite believe it - if the battery on my video camera needs to be charged just putting it back in the camera case for ten minutes helps. It's no good just taking it off the camera - it has to go in the case for this to work. Magic?
Magic indeed - where would we be without it? Takes me back to thoughts of TP again and his fabulous world.
How come no one has mentioned that the pictures are distorted? The first one looks ok, but the next two are surely stretched vertically and the last one is definitely far too long for its width. Is everybody else too polite to mention it? Or blind? Or has no sense of proportion? Or doesn't want to hurt Eddie's feelings?
Of course you're right TtT (17). Perhaps nobody else cared?
The problem is in the coding - width="250" for all images. Since it's correct for the first image, possibly a cut & paste error? I imagine the images are linked in manually by the blogger.
It's like the problem with my parents' TV only in reverse. They rent(!) a widescreen TV, but only get standard analogue terrestrial TV signal. Instead of having the picture 4:3 or stretched only at the edge (superwide?), they insist on watching programs fully stretched to 16:9 It gives me a headache just thinking about it!
18 - how could you criticise Eddie's scanning results? If he gets upset now he'll stop doing them at all, then what will we do for entertainment? That last picture is obviously his homage to El Greco - it's ART, not a technical error. Hang around this blog for long enough, you'll find there are a lot of things like that .
