"Les Biches" by Jean Lecointre..

And Ian Evans in Ebbw Vale writes with this. He listens to PM on one of his 1950s valve sets. Which, curiously, is what we use to broadcast...

Lovely postcards, erm, are you short of them though? I only ask because the Bluebell Wood is already up on Fl*kr, I remember commenting on it yonks ago.
Oh and by the way, if you are short of postcard, you'll probably find one of a hat-wearing Donkey filed down the back of the radiator. It's about time to dust it off and give it a go. It has a Canarian stamp on it - you know the one I mean? The one you've been saving, apparently?

This image from Ian is one that you’ve already published from someone else. Is it officially the most popular postcard sent to PM?

Come on Eddie. No more toying with Val's affections. No more playing hard to get.

Valery (2). Eeek. We're sorry. Our dodgy system has let us down. Actually, calling it a system is probably over-egging things. I've now been through the cards that have been scanned AND the hard copies in the drawer and can't find yours. How can we make you happy?

  8. At 11:50 AM on 09 Nov 2006, Stephen, Leader of STROP wrote:

Unless Ian Evans has sent this in twice, is Eddie recycling?

Its bad enough that the strapline is being reused (though mine was up again yesterday so I shan't complain!)

Eeeek, I can't think of anything remotely witty to say back - except that I have already posted over on the beach, threatening to get off my a** (behatted or not) and go to buy one from somewhere local. How would that be? Would you put that one up - I might even wish you Happy Wotsit on it, Lord Mair?

I'll take that as a yes then. Back later folks....

Maybe this image will go some way to making you happy, Valery: . But Eric should send you some kind of signed artefact, too.

John H (currently at 14), it's not me, I've yet to find a pointless enough postcard, and anyway I use a 1940's valve radio. None of this cheap '50's rubbish.

Frog postings are very erratic today, in the Rumsfeld thread, for example.

  21. At 02:35 PM on 09 Nov 2006, Big Sister wrote:

Ah, Valery, now I know what the problem is ..... You mention a Canarias stamp, which means you posted it in Spain (it all comes under the Spanish postal system, I'm afraid ....)

And the Spanish post has always been notoriously bad over delivery of postcards, whether to other countries or internally. I think they pay somebody to throw every 3rd card into a bin or something ... But, seriously, it is true that 'Correos' is notoriously bad for delivering postcards.

So, your poor donkey will be languishing somewhere - but probably not in the PM office.

This is very sad, but not Lord M's fault. So, I suggest all the froggers cub together and make you a humungous glass of a cocktail of your choice for you to imbibe on the beach.

And know that you've got everybody, inc. Eddie, sobbing in their kerchieves for you.

    Big hug from Big Sis

Oh! Deepthroat, you ruined that! I thought I was being so clever. Although, to be honest, the "...one of his 1950s valve sets..." did worry me since I couldn't remember you saying that you had more than one. I think I was just trying to show off - in the same way as linking Fearless to TP.

I don't usually teach, but gave a "guest lecture" this morning. I'm not expecting a round of applause - I mention it only because it reminded me of a couple of things. The first is that, in a previous job, I came into contact with guidance for American student studying in the UK. It mentioned that the "appearance" of working hard amongst British students was decidedly "uncool" - and American students would do well to treat cautiously claims from Brits that they'd "done no work at all" on this or other piece of work. Always struck me as an interesting and illuminating piece of cross-cultural advice.

The second was a discussion I had with a university lecturer a while ago who was voicing his concern over the expectations of students coming to his university. He had noticed that they seemed to be unused to, and rather ill-equipped to deal with, the format of a traditional lecture. He felt that part of the problem was a childhood diet of TV and modern broadcasting. I have to admit to presenting his argument rather simplistically - but do you remember the OU programmes you used to get on ´óÏó´«Ã½2 in the "olden days"? Now you get Kirsty Wark presenting as if it's just another TV prog. And, indeed, some of us watch them as they are!

John H, apart from trying to be clever with my pseudonym (that's Aperitif's trick), I do have more than one valve radio. Not as many as some, and no, putting two on at the same time does not give a stereo effect.

And that "appearance"; it's that of the professional amateur, one who strives hard with midnight working to make it look as if the essay had been dashed off in half an hour.

Ah, swoon, yet another one from the Main Man! No doubt, you will all be somewhat relieved to hear that I have hied me to Nearest Town, and in a kind of scattergun approach have sent off 3 postcards.

Eddie - you did ask what you could do to make me happy? Well you could forgive me in advance for getting so carried away at being clever, that I managed to forget to wish you a Happy Birthday on any of them!! Consider yourself wished.

Oh yes and if you still want to grovel (though I have to admit, Big Sis has put me on shaky ground now, what with probably quite correctly blaming Correos) then a signed photo would be lovely. In your own time of course. :o)

I'm off to the beach for my cocktail anyway, thanks!
