I guess there won't be any of that nonsemse tonight as I gather that Nigel is presenting.

But, then again, I am an ex modern languages teacher, so I would think that, wouldn't I?

BTW, Eddie, thank you for spoiling us so richly this Christmas. And a very happy post-Christmas to you, wherever you are. Presumably getting ready for Hogmanay?

Can anybody tell me when I can hear Eddie 'live' again?

(Eddie Adamant lives! - Sorry, couldn't resist that ... )

    Re (4) Big Sister.

What a good question. I'd think Tuesday 2nd but who knows.

Do you think if we ask Eddie nicely he may fill us in ?

Dear Eddie Big Sister and many others of your devoted flock wish to know when you will be returning to host the PM Programme.

After flicking through Terry Wogans biography it seems there have been many who -- well -- just never return. So lets hope we still get the daily posting!

I hope you all have a good C-Day and B-Day!

Umm, I should really say these out loud before I type them I think...

    Eddie,

Did you steal that idea from The Way It Is a late night comedy in the late 90's on R4. The news anchor(*) would read out a piece, then go across to the reporter, who then had to read out the same piece again...

Today has also pulled this trick on occasion, but they declinded to give references to TWIS.

(*)More of a Richard and Judy set up, really.

As one who struggled to pass O level French, I'm not so very keen on having to learn modern languages - as indeed my English demonstrates - as I was universally dreadful at them.

The newsletter mentions Sat Nav; & here is my contribution, as I just emailed to in response.

We thought Sat Nav would solve all our navigation issues, particularly because finding tiny road names seems to take me longer than it takes SO to self-combust, instead we find ourselves shouting at each other about when I told SO to ignore her (the voice is called Jane) because SO is incapable of listening to any other voice. Thus, when I know a better route, he gives Jane's dictates pre-eminence (which upsets me) but which is because multiple instructions are akin to multi-tasking.

In fact, I think Sat Nav's ability to get us where we want to go might all be a bit gender specific (in a completely generalised way of course); my friend & I (both female) just argue about who is right when we are both attempting to over-rule Jane simultaneously whilst going around the roundabout continuously until one of us makes a decision; usually by the person holding the steering wheel, & invariably the wrong one.

Sat Nav is falliable, but a combination of reading a map prior to departure (because it is a dangerous thing to do whilst driving), & listening to Jane while driving, which is less so, seems to be the optimum solution. I am also slowly learning how to manipulate Jane, so she does things the way I want her to, which probably would have been easier if I had read the instructions first but gadgets are SO's area of responsiblity & I have only recently been granted access, after we arrived in the wrong place; not speaking but fuming!

I was prepared to sneer at Satnav when it came with our late lamented company car, and I have to say that husband did tend to over rely on it. HOWEVER one night a couple of winters ago, we had just been to visit my mother in hospital in Harrogate. We got stuck in a traffic jam and it was dark and snowing so hard as to make even the concept of visibility fairly laughable. The Satnav, I forget what we called her although she did have a name and not just 'irritating cow', found us another route home through a network of small rural roads I had never knowingly seen before - or since.
So like all gadgets I would say it has its place, but you have to keep it there, and generally men tend to let gadgets replace common sense and thought both.

I am going to sound demented (when don't I?), but did the big people change the schedule for LW? I switched on to radio 4 at about 17.10 and I have no idea what I was listening to, but it wasn't PM. Eventually I found a very snowy PM on FM with Nigel, which was definitely not the same programme.

My radio was tuned in correctly, so what I want to know is: Was my radio taken over temporarily by alien propaganda or did the schedule change?

I'll go and put on my foil hat now.

Hi Aperry! Merry the-day-after-Boxing Day. How was it for you?

I can't even scan when it's attached to the pc, so don't ask me for advice.
I've been trying to get on to the pc since about 6.30 when I blithely asked SO to look at a small defect which was preventing me from seeing videos on Y*uT*be, and that's him just stood up and gone to bed now. Defeated.
Any ideas clever froggers? Can't get the videos to play, it says some mumble about javascript and flash not being up to date. He's downloaded the flash thing about 5 times tonight and still not a jot of difference. I have confidence in my frogfriends though. I think it all happened because the pc is so slow and he's been using R*gCure to try to eliminate the nonsense out of it, (39 processes running apparently) but my bet is it's got rid of summat that it shouldn't have?
    Suggestions on a post.

Not wishing to brag, but our photocopier/printer is also a scanner ... the architect in the house generates a lot more paper than I do, and he scans letters routinely rather than try to squeeze a filing cabinet into his tiny office ... and I used to be able to print AND scan on that machine, in the days when it was all wired together.

Now I can print but not scan. And SO seems to recall hearing 'somewhere' that scanning is a thing one can't do wirelessly.

It's a law of nature or something, he says.

Oh well. Any hints from technologically advanced froggers would be appreciated.

(You'll have gathered, ValeryP, that in this respect I am absolutely no use to you!)

I have lots of technology about the place but am not au fait with most of it. Late SO was a techy type, so I blame him -- shouting "What I do now?!" was always easier than learning for myself...
