Whoops, who didn't listen to the intro then ?
I guess there won't be any of that nonsemse tonight as I gather that Nigel is presenting.
Yipee - another strapline - you're spoiling me.
**blushes**
Have I just got time to say that I think the drop in Modern Languages is catastrophic? No? I didn't think so.
I, too, think the drop off in modern languages is catastrophic.
But, then again, I am an ex modern languages teacher, so I would think that, wouldn't I?
BTW, Eddie, thank you for spoiling us so richly this Christmas. And a very happy post-Christmas to you, wherever you are. Presumably getting ready for Hogmanay?
Can anybody tell me when I can hear Eddie 'live' again?
(Eddie Adamant lives! - Sorry, couldn't resist that ... )
Big Sister (4) Do you teach Latin, then? That is surely one of the ex modern languages??
Re (4) Big Sister.
What a good question. I'd think Tuesday 2nd but who knows.
Do you think if we ask Eddie nicely he may fill us in ?
Dear Eddie Big Sister and many others of your devoted flock wish to know when you will be returning to host the PM Programme.
After flicking through Terry Wogans biography it seems there have been many who -- well -- just never return. So lets hope we still get the daily posting!
Oh Jason, you're as sharp as one of Anne P's creases!
I'm just dropping in in the middle of my post-Christmas decorating - spotty white hair is the new trend, really - to ask if anyone's suggested this strapline yet:
"PM - The best pictures on the radio."
*Someone* must have by now. If not... well there it is.
I hope you all have a good C-Day and B-Day!
Umm, I should really say these out loud before I type them I think...
Jason V. Good! No red marks on your homework, then!
Eddie,
Did you steal that idea from The Way It Is a late night comedy in the late 90's on R4. The news anchor(*) would read out a piece, then go across to the reporter, who then had to read out the same piece again...
Today has also pulled this trick on occasion, but they declinded to give references to TWIS.
(*)More of a Richard and Judy set up, really.
As one who struggled to pass O level French, I'm not so very keen on having to learn modern languages - as indeed my English demonstrates - as I was universally dreadful at them.
Not catastrophic, Eddie. Drove back from Cornwall (was on 24th & 25th) and after lunch attended the excellent "Carols for All" in Gloucester Cathedral
And to think, Vyle, I'd imagined you in the tropics!
Big Sis - I hadn't envisaged your being quite that disappointed.
It occurs to me that the pictures on that web page will probably change tomorrow, leaving later readers in the dark.
Has the boy Eddie gone on his hols with the Blairs'?
Saturday Night Fever Lives OK
Nice to see that Cherie kept up her frugality and managed to get a bit off the runway.
not to mention a free place to stay!
The newsletter mentions Sat Nav; & here is my contribution, as I just emailed to in response.
We thought Sat Nav would solve all our navigation issues, particularly because finding tiny road names seems to take me longer than it takes SO to self-combust, instead we find ourselves shouting at each other about when I told SO to ignore her (the voice is called Jane) because SO is incapable of listening to any other voice. Thus, when I know a better route, he gives Jane's dictates pre-eminence (which upsets me) but which is because multiple instructions are akin to multi-tasking.
In fact, I think Sat Nav's ability to get us where we want to go might all be a bit gender specific (in a completely generalised way of course); my friend & I (both female) just argue about who is right when we are both attempting to over-rule Jane simultaneously whilst going around the roundabout continuously until one of us makes a decision; usually by the person holding the steering wheel, & invariably the wrong one.
Sat Nav is falliable, but a combination of reading a map prior to departure (because it is a dangerous thing to do whilst driving), & listening to Jane while driving, which is less so, seems to be the optimum solution. I am also slowly learning how to manipulate Jane, so she does things the way I want her to, which probably would have been easier if I had read the instructions first but gadgets are SO's area of responsiblity & I have only recently been granted access, after we arrived in the wrong place; not speaking but fuming!
Somehow I cannot see Eddie with Tony, or at least, not for any length of time. All that humour would go straight over the had of our revered leader. And Tony wouldn't get the dry wit, either!
Does Nigel Wrench need sat-nav to find his way around the studio after a long absence???
Okay, so what's the in joke about Eddie and the BeeGees? Nigel tells us they're practising (harmonies, indeed!) YesBut refers to SNF .....
Is our Eddie a closet twizzler? Should he be invited onto the next Strictly Come Dancing?
My last posting appears to have warped in the wash:
"Somehow I cannot see Eddie with Tony, or at least, not for any length of time. All that humour would go straight over the HEAD of our revered leader. And Tony wouldn't get the dry wit, either!"
[I don't mind things getting moderated, but to have them turned into nonsense ...... Or could it have been a typo?]
Dyslexic keyboard perhaps, Big Sister?
I was prepared to sneer at Satnav when it came with our late lamented company car, and I have to say that husband did tend to over rely on it. HOWEVER one night a couple of winters ago, we had just been to visit my mother in hospital in Harrogate. We got stuck in a traffic jam and it was dark and snowing so hard as to make even the concept of visibility fairly laughable. The Satnav, I forget what we called her although she did have a name and not just 'irritating cow', found us another route home through a network of small rural roads I had never knowingly seen before - or since.
So like all gadgets I would say it has its place, but you have to keep it there, and generally men tend to let gadgets replace common sense and thought both.
Big Sis I prefer the explanation that someone is turning our posts into nonsense. A few of mine at Christmas looked distincly odd, and I'm sure my typing hasn't deteriorated that much!
Mary
Emergency message for Jason Good. I can't access your blog and you've forgotten to say when to add the turkey to the turkey rissoto.
Mary
Or dyslexic moderator, Jason?
Madmary: why do you think it is called "leftover turkey risotto"?
Add it with the first ladle of stock. I've actually just finished eating mine now and it was yum.
Ah - Vyle - those seals lying beached in Cornwall - that's me after all these Christmas meals that is!
Thanks for the memories of a great holiday in St Ives four years ago.
Thanks Jason. I had to go out to a police station but SO made the rissoto and it's a great success. Just eating it now.
Mary
Pleased to be of service to the criminal justice system where possible. I'm on call 8am to 5pm Friday - do you think he'll cook for me then?
I am going to sound demented (when don't I?), but did the big people change the schedule for LW? I switched on to radio 4 at about 17.10 and I have no idea what I was listening to, but it wasn't PM. Eventually I found a very snowy PM on FM with Nigel, which was definitely not the same programme.
My radio was tuned in correctly, so what I want to know is: Was my radio taken over temporarily by alien propaganda or did the schedule change?
I'll go and put on my foil hat now.
Sorry Jason, I'm on call all Friday, so my hunger comes first.
Mary
YesBut (14) I am back in the office tomorrow - but not on air till Friday. All the posts in my name are from me though. Hope you like the new Windows on Your World I've just posted, thanks to a lot of hard work from Lissa and her elves.
Eddie (33) : You need to go self employed matey. This 'being in the office but not being heard till days later' is for the birds!
And I don't mean 'for the girlies'!
Have I mentioned how wirelessly I am sending this? Friends in low places can come in sooooo handy!
(slightly tipsy) Fifi ;o)
Fifi I've been wireless for a good while now! I often blog whilst in the kitchen, in fact I was blogging from my kitchen whilst I cooked the christmas dinner.
Mary
Eddie (33):
Lissa has Elvis working for her? Now that's impressive!
(Yes, I need new glasses - preferably filled with Non-northern Relaxant.)
SS Cat: Uh-huh-huh!
Madmary (35) : Well I haven't quite got over the novelty of being genuinely mobile yet. Whoopeeeee!
Does anyone know whether, as it seems to us, scanning can't be done wirelessly?
Happeee, happeee daaaay .. oh happeee daaaay ....
(more than a bit tipsy, but still editing carefully) Fifi ;oD
How nice to hear from Eddie. And how nice to know he'll be back with us on Friday. And how nice to think that he read this thread all the way through to post 18, but didn't see my earlier request for info on post 4.
Feeling rather 'left out', though relieved our leader is returning -
Big (sniff) Sis
Fifi (38),
All I know about it is that in order to scan one definitely needs a scanner...
Hi Aperry! Merry the-day-after-Boxing Day. How was it for you?
I can't even scan when it's attached to the pc, so don't ask me for advice.
I've been trying to get on to the pc since about 6.30 when I blithely asked SO to look at a small defect which was preventing me from seeing videos on Y*uT*be, and that's him just stood up and gone to bed now. Defeated.
Any ideas clever froggers? Can't get the videos to play, it says some mumble about javascript and flash not being up to date. He's downloaded the flash thing about 5 times tonight and still not a jot of difference. I have confidence in my frogfriends though. I think it all happened because the pc is so slow and he's been using R*gCure to try to eliminate the nonsense out of it, (39 processes running apparently) but my bet is it's got rid of summat that it shouldn't have?
Suggestions on a post.
Aperitif (40) : How lovely to hear from you again, after what seems like a lot longer than it probably is.
Not wishing to brag, but our photocopier/printer is also a scanner ... the architect in the house generates a lot more paper than I do, and he scans letters routinely rather than try to squeeze a filing cabinet into his tiny office ... and I used to be able to print AND scan on that machine, in the days when it was all wired together.
Now I can print but not scan. And SO seems to recall hearing 'somewhere' that scanning is a thing one can't do wirelessly.
It's a law of nature or something, he says.
Oh well. Any hints from technologically advanced froggers would be appreciated.
(You'll have gathered, ValeryP, that in this respect I am absolutely no use to you!)
Fifi xx
Hello everyone,
Yes it was all very pleasant -- and the outlaws have yet to visit so it isn't really over for a few days -- just taking a breather.
I have lots of technology about the place but am not au fait with most of it. Late SO was a techy type, so I blame him -- shouting "What I do now?!" was always easier than learning for myself...
