How to send your Window On Your World pictures
By Post: Window On Your World, PM, Room G601, 大象传媒 News Centre, London W12 7RJ. Sorry - we can't return any...in the style of Vision On.
By email: pm@bbc.co.uk - please put Window On Your World in the subject line.
From your mobile phone - 07725 100 100 - you must mark it Photo for PM.
However you send them, feel free to add any information you like. Maybe you can tell us what the picture shows, or where it was taken, or whether it's typical of your view of the world at 5pm - or how long you've been listening to us. It's up to you.
Thank you for taking part. Tomorrow, we'll let you know where the pictures can be seen.
I promise Eddie I shall take my photo @ 5pm, but shall have to wait for my SO to upload, it if that it what one does when taking the thing from the camera to the next stage...
Crikey - you just gave me a heart attack - I saw your instructions and thought for a moment that the programme had already started and I'd missed 5pm!
Which kind of gives away that I'm not currently listening to Radio 4, but then i'm in the office and its very, very, quiet here!
Skweek, nobody here yet? But we know it takes time. OK, camera ready.
Photo taken, now to upload it. Not the most thrilling of ones but there we go...
Regards to you all
john
yippee! Taken the indoor view from my office at home. Will get developed and send off in the post asap!! Strange how such a small thing can be so exciting.....
How upsetting. I've been listening to PM regularly every night for nearly two years on my way home from work.
I thought I'd send my picture in for "Window on your World". I've come here, to the PM blog and what do I see? A picture of Eddie but not as I've seen him in my head but as he is and the two pictures just don't match.
Mt Illusions are shattered. I'll never be able to listen to him again now without a small knot of loss in my heart.
Photo's taken! I'll email it when I get home...
Two computer screens and a desk - exciting or what?
Think I've done it. Not sure. It takes such a long time to tap out words on these tiny telephones these days....
A desk, a computer and some papers. Possibly the most ubiquitous content to be found in these pictures?
How exciting. I realise now how badly my kitchen needs decorating. And my better half happened to send me a photo from the hairdresser's chair. I'm sure she won't mind that I forwarded it by SMS to PM............
Well, I've sent it. But now I've noticed that the clock on the camera was set wrong. So - Will they believe that it was really taken at 5 p.m. on the dot?
Wish I had the technology! But will enjoy looking at the snapshots. cath chapman
Log fire and a TV screen that says it's 'A Good Read' even though it's already PM. The wonders of digital radio via the TV.
It's still showing the email address as potw@bbc.co.uk - so Eddie might have to run around to their office to collect the photos!
Well I did as requested and at the stroke of 5, I was in a corridor next to the departmental Christmas Tree. I hope I shan't be in trouble for having such politically insensitive material!!!
Should I have called it a seasonal tinsel tree?
Sam (4) Don't be disappointed, Eddie's perfect as he is!
Oh my word, Eddie, are you going to have fund now, sorting all this lot out!
Has all leave been cancelled for the entire Team over Christmas?
A useful exercise, Eddie, because after I took my picture at 5pm, I realised that I have not updated the time on my camera since BST ended. I'll send it when I get home, and I promise it was taken at 5pm and not 6pm as the time stamp suggests! It will still be a contender for the most BORING photo you see (my desk), whatever the time is. ;-)
Ok, why am I trying to take a photo at 5pm in Scotland in December - it's dark here! But I've done my best - so it's a photo of light from a gatehouse and a yeast factory - do not hold your breath 'til you see it!
I wonder how many pictures there are of computers on desks. Actually I cheated. I took a photo of my desk but at 5 pm I was busy taking a photograph. Sadly no-one recorded the event.
Done it!!
Here is a sneek preview : .
Anyone else going to post their sneek previews here?
The next thing we know they'll be asking us to send in photo albums to store the snaps.
I think I've still got some of those sticky corner things somewhere .....
What a bizarre idea. Photos on radio and taken in the dark.
Potty.
Both my neurotic dog and I got very excited at 5.00 pm. Now that the email has been despatched and the automatic response received, there's something of a sense of anticlimax.
Still there's always PM to listen to.
Michael (and Jet)
Was that David Archer doing the honours just now (5.45?)
I鈥檓 a little fed up with people repeating themselves in today鈥檚 programme. And, what鈥檚 more, I鈥檓 a little fed up with people repeating themselves in today鈥檚 programme.
Sent! A terrible picture!
Mary
My one is even sadder RobbieDo -- a boring kitchen.
My other half just happened to be playing with his Dolls Hse where he spends most of his hours
Re: Sam Gould (6)
Eddie would normally welcome you to the blog but I think he's busy looking at photo's
From all the Froggers a big welcome on board
Michael Gouda: My own canine friend was busy at the time, but I'm sure was also thinking "Why's the camera pointing at me NOW?"
Oh 'eck. I completely forgot about the Window on Your World thing. How annoying. It would have been a computer screen, I guess.
Okay, the ultimately boring and pointless* photo has been sent!
* Of course, I mean borng and pointless in a good way :-)
I was worried I'd just be staring at the radio at 5, but instead I was out in the pouring rain... ah well, two photos taken.
Dying to see others'...
Frank Fahy - well yes, of course. But this is Eddie Mair and PM we're talking about. What else did you expect?
Oh dear, the lights in the kitchen made it difficult to take a good photo, by which I mean I am not good at it. Anyway safely sent.
And another thing - I know I was away on Friday adn Monday so probably shouldn't moan about the non-appearance of the newsletter, in fact I shold be complimenting someone - Lissa, whoever on picking up the fact, but I'm back now and it would have been nice to have today's.
Thank you PM - I had to find my mobile phone manual and actually learn how to take a photo and send a 'multi-media message' (or MMS for short). Feeling v. proud of myself. Although how on earth did AndycroakLucan above manage to create a link to his photo!? So much technology, so little time...
AndyCrSpeedy,
Very nice.
AndyCrSpeedy,
Very nice.
I just E Mailed my Photos for Windows to My World. These were photos of Miami Florida taken at different days of December at 5:00PM. There are some Christmas Decorations, A Nativity Scene, A Self Portrait. Cheers
Just like to reassure you all that my photo was taken as the programme started, at 5pm (confirmed by the timepiece on my desk) and not at 4.59 as the comment suggests.
Question is, when the pictures go up how sarcastic a comment are we going to get as the "tagline" for PM? eg "PM : And yout thought the pictures were exciting enough" . Though I think it would be better to pinch Frank Fahy (23)
"Photos for Radio taken in the dark" which sums up PM rather well at times ;)
Regards
John
Hi AndycroakLucan
Here's my
Yeah, I know, BORING
ed
erm, is it just me or can anyone else see individual "complain about this post forms on each posting...?
weird, whichever way you spell it...
Damn! In my excitement I forgot to title the picture to identify where or who it came from. Mine's called CIM1921.jpg, but I suppose that's equally as useful at Eddie's end as PictureForPM.jpg (Andy at 21 - nice pic but you might want to get a proper decorator in next time)...Pity the elves who are collating this thing!
Andy (21) love your photo. Take it you don't have double glazing then? But what on earth is that scary red-eyed monster trying to get in through the window? I'll have nightmares now!
Jonnie - so why no picture of the doll's house & back of SO's head?
I think Eddie has organised for all these pictures to be projected onto the walls of Buckingham Palce from now until Christmas, every evening. He's being so mysterious about where we are going to be able to see them. Otherwise perhaps there's a paper products factory lined up to start producing them on kitchen roll in time for Christmas?
Hey Ed : you have a picture of Osama and Rolf Harris on your wall - do they cancel each other out?
It's not my house (rented), so decorator is cheap (but cheerful). Double Glazing? I think that's against the rules for living in this thatched place.
The heating system is v. good though, except for its direct and immediate contribution to global warming ... :(
What scary red-eyed monster? I don't see it. Are you sure?
I think I was taking a leak at 5pm, so just as well I didn't have a camera...
(26) I have picked entirely the wrong topic to raise here, quite clearly, but at least it proves I was listening.
I took a photo, too, but it is 9 of 36 - so there will be a delay before it arrives in my hands, let alone at the 大象传媒. It will probably be the worst photo I鈥檝e taken in years, but an accurate reflection of something, no doubt.
ah, re my own comment at (43).
That happens if you disable javascript.
Quite right too.
Ignore me I'm talking to myself....
Well, another pic of a computer screen...
and yes, it helps to prove that Windows has taken over our World (is this what was meant?).
Still, there are a couple of humans in the background.
No, I don't talk to them.
I'm kind've looking forward to someone's bright idea for these (British Museum project..??)
Evening All. Isn't it lovely that the pointless photo thing has brought so many new people to the blog. Welcome one and all - do stay and join in on a regular basis.
Andy (46) surely you can see those 2 red eyes in the right hand window? They're luminous & I just know they must belong to a monster! Or is it just me? Am I the only one who can see them? Or is it the whisky - hang on, I haven't had any yet.
Dr Hackenbush - I thought we'd established you sent in a duodenal ulcer picture? Now you're saying it's "an accurate reflection of something". What - you've been operating in front of a mirror??
The SO sent in my pic, but without putting any caption or origin on it (point of honour that he doesn't read the blog, so didn't follow Eddie's instructions). Oh well, serves me right for not doing it myself.
whisht
you're rambling - stop it!
Love the sneak preview idea, thanks for sharing, still haven't mastered the hyperlink thing but here is mine
Thanks to all for hyperlink advice, it just didn't work when I tried it, but shall not be defeated!
The Lovely Whisht (43&49),
I know you were talking to yourself and not me, but, yes, I see them every time. I once tried to post "Do not complain about this post" so that readers would be able to consider an alternative, but it was moderated...
Fifi, love the new strapline :-)
(52) Yes and no, yes and no.
And from one strapline hero to the next, welcome to the club Fifi.
Re: Andy (21)
Like it -- though there is no data on the file -- so did you really take it at 5PM
Re: Ed I -- Scary :-(
Too embarassed about both our offerings I'm afraid Annasee, but as Simon (SO) - who pays no interest normally in the blog, decided to join in I'll let you have a sneak preview.
I'll try and quickly create a froggers Window on the World :-(
Hooray for email.
Postmen in the capital
(For once) will agree.
I enjoyed taking part in the "Window On Your World" experiment.
Here's my contribution:
Jonnie ;-) your lady reminds me of Visconti's "Ludwig" ... Do you really live in such opulence?
Lord Lucan: Love the piccie. Was that your taillights as you 'disappeared' again? BTW, there's a view of a roof in a special place ...
Fifi: Well done. But, as I've said elsewhere, my straps never show. So I thoroughly agree with you sentiment.
Incidentally, has anyone kept a record of straps by day?
Roger B - fantastic photo. I thought it seemed familiar - I was passing it every day last week on my way to the Lyceum. You've made it look much nicer by night than it is in the day - isn't Sheffield a terrible mess of building sites at the moment, & the station area a complete obstacle course?
Jonnie - daughter highly impressed by the incredible luxury of the Dolls House. Now I know why you don't take children - very wise. I detect Simon is weakening re the blog. First he takes a photo - next he'll be wanting to see what other people have sent, then he'll be commenting....
AndyCroak I wouldn't open that door if I were you - something from Dr Who outside!
Roger B - like your photo!
Roger B. (60) - Lovely picture.
Lovely blog with nice pictures.
The word "photography" derives from the Greek and means, literally, 鈥渓ight writing.鈥 The quality of light can transform an otherwise ordinary vista into a warm and moody scene.
Light - the primary source of energy for the universe - is the central image of many religions and the photographer's chief resource. From the relentless power of full sun over water to the beam from a single candle, it is light photographers play with, light in its many moods and manifestations that we capture on film.
I do hope this is of help.
Nice previews!
(Oh dear, I'm channeling Silver Fox!)
As I said a while back, I didn't take a picture at 5pm to avoid getting mugged, but I did recreate it in detail later: A perfect view of the book I was reading on the train, my left finger and thumb and nothing else.
But dare I upload this recreation? This reproduction? This fauxto?
Johnnie, I love your picture, can you introduce us to your guests please. They do have names?!
Silver Fox (62),
And that reminds me,
I am part of the sun as my eye is part of me, That I am part of the earth my feet know perfectly, and my blood is part of the sea... There is nothing of me that is alone and absolute, except my mind, and we shall find that the mind has no existence by itself, it is only the glitter of the sun on the surface of the waters.
-- D H Lawrence
silver-fox,
There would be no silver without light, so thanks.
SSC (66ish)
"Fauxto"
Nice mixed linguistics!
(a la silverfox)
SSCat (66), If I were you I'd keep that thought to myself... and doesn't he bite to make you stop?...
Mrs Naughtie (70):
Thanks! I was beginning to wonder if I'd even get a *groan*...
SSC (66 & 71 well, they were once)
Sorry, Dear Heart,
I posted my appreciation as soon as the fauxto was developed, but I'm sure you've noticed that the moderation has regressed to its former, apalling delays and fragmentating and shuffling of the order of posts.
I shall tempt providence by suggesting that those responsible shoud be taken outside and strangled by their own entrails, unless they have been involved in unfolding the photos which appear to have arrived unexpectedly and unbidden at the PM desk.
What is the World coming to? etc.. I don't pay my licence fee to have sweet souls like yourself upset by people who are not up to the job. I have a little man who sees to that sort of thing for me.
Still and all; "Live and let live" as Genghis Khan used to say.
ps
Have you noticed that "sometimes" the "E-mail" address box is shaded yellow and at other times, not?
"Fauxto" really v. good. Thank you.
SSC (66)- surely you don't mean "finger & thumb"???. Rather "paw & claw", surely?
ANd btw, if you stopped using tins & started on those dinky expensive little pouches, you'd find them a lot easier to open, stainless steel or no. Just a thought!
"Fauxto" too clever for me, til others pointed it out. Most amusing...
Mrs Naughtie- my email box is never yellow. Have you tried dusting the screen? It might help.
(74)
Annasee, My Dear,
Thank you for the suggestion. Today the
"E-mail [box] Required (not displayed)" is not shaded yellow and I haven't dusted the screen.
Mind you, I haven't yet left a lit cigarette on the keyboard. We'll see what the day brings.
Mine is yellow at the moment (email box)
Valery, My Dear,
Thank you for confirmation of the phenomenon. I haven't lit a ciggie since I switched on and the yellow stripe is in the address box.
A possible explanation has suggested itself. This afternoon, there was no colouring. I was using a set with that modern big band connection. Oh, me! That takes me back to the days of Glenn Miller, Joe Loss, the Squadronnaires; they were good days. (Apart from that unpleasantness that we are not supposed to mention.)
Where was I?
Oh yes. Now this machine is a dial and ride one. That perhaps is the difference. It's less worrying than another idea I had, that the yellow might be an indicator of an old person who is dispensable. That I can completely forget, now that I know a fine young lassie like yersel' has the same thing.
It's very kind of you to write, not like that good-for-nothing son of mine.
Bless you, Valery.
With Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year,
from Mrs. Naughtie
For heaven's sake, Mother!
Stop trying to blacken my character, there are already enough doing that.
How many times do I have to tell you - I'll pay for you to have broadband. It's that miserable old "His Lairdship". (No, not that one. The one in the Big Hoose.) He likes having the telephone line tied up. It makes it seem as though he has some friends.
If you haven't finished knitting me that new sporran yet, get to it. We're getting close to the last posting date.
Your loving son.
Now, James,
That is no way to talk to your mother even though she is a dizzy old bat.
By the way, will you be sending the usual case of beverage for us to keep alongside those photographs that we've got?
Valery, My Dear,
I see that you have your name up in lights! That hasn't happened to me since I stopped going out with the butcher's boy. Oh, what fun it was riding down the village street in that wicker basket on the front of his bike. (Providing that I'd remembered to put on clean undies.) That was before I met Mr. Naughtie, of course, but we don't speak of him.
You are a clever girl and must be very proud of yourself, and to think that you bothered to write to me. It's much better than a letter from that Eric Ghosh fellow; he's getting paid to do it. Not that he's written to me, of course. I'm sure he must be far too busy getting photographs out of envelopes.
Ooh, look at the time. I'm late for His Lairdship's (no not that one) midnight feast.
Does the yellow address box indicate a 'secure' (encrypted) connection? If so, it'll be slower than it needs to be (unless you're feeling exposed).
ed
Oh, Mr. Ed,
You men and the way you understand things!
I haven't even got a cellar let alone a crypt, but I've checked the connection box in the hall near the front door. It looks as though you are right. I've tugged at the wire things and they do seem to be secure.
Thank you ever so, young man.
I feel much happier now it's been explained.
Merry Christmas to you too Mrs N and thanks for your own kind words!
Mine has never been yellow - should I be worried?
