Straplines
Thank you for all those we've received (more came in this morning as it happens) but we need MORE! The news monster loves to eat.
I have literally no idea what the hell that means. Sorry. Strong coffee.
Please send your strapline suggestions to pm@bbc.co.uk. And mark it STRAPLINES, enclosing a cheque for 100 pounds.
Eddie: Can we pleeeeeeeeease see your Mandarin?
Mine never get used!
Witchiwoman (2)
I'm so glad it's not just me...
And I sent in a photo of one of the camels ages ago, never to be seen again... (mind you it wasn't that great a pic)
I am currently halfway through yesterday's programme, Eddie.
Report to follow.
(Remember: I'm a teacher ......!)
All, I think suggestions via the frog Ironically don't go in the pool. Only those sent via email as suggested above.
Just trying to be helpful, as I also didn't pay the usual rapt attention yesterday, 'cause I too was on the Cransley tour.
xx

Helen (3) - Its nice to know you're not the only one isn't it!!
AND a camel pic! I, for one, would love to have seen that!
Hang on a sec - hasn't today's strapline changed during this morning? I am sure it was different when I logged on just after 9 this morning. If Eddie plans to use several every day it is no wonder he's running short.
What happened to all the straplines suggested months ago? I'm sure they haven't all been used - and some of them were quite clean!
Eddie,
"The two characters for my name apparently mean: Fair and Energetic."
Only two characters? My understanding is that Chinese is mainly monosyllabic. Does that mean your name was given as "Ed Mair"?
In taht case I'm fair, but perhaps not so energetic.
;-(

(the hard hedgehog (Auf Deutsch)
witchiwoman (2) - Thats pobibly cos your not errudite like I is! :o)
(Oi! - the strapline has just changed. I'm sure Molly wasn't there earlier on.)
Helen & Witchi - no nor mine out of the last lot I sent! And yes we want to see the camels photo of Helen's please!!
Sara - I noticed that too, in fact I think it was different at 1am to 9am too!
PM
鈥淲orth 拢100 of someone else鈥檚 money鈥
RJD 9
Oi! leave it alone!
Molly!
Molly - congrats
and witchiwoman will know I'm only joking. I used for the very first time a :o) - I hope I got it right.
So it wasn't just me thought I was going a bit potty.
D'you think they're doing a sort of dress-rehearsal with the straplines they've got and trying them out to see?
I'm not sure this lot are to be trusted with our precious straplines.
RJD
Sorry- pleeeeeese ! :o)
Mollyxx
Molly
I love the strapline! I would have said so this morning; in fact I cannot think why I didn't. ;-)
H.
RJD
Sorry- pleeeeeese ! :o)
Mollyxx
I suggest you all email your strapline suggestions claiming to be Fifi ... because I seem to have had quite a few used. It should improve your odds a bit. ;o)
And I sent some more in yesterday, which probably means those are the ones Eddie's saying came in today. Eeeeek!
Fifi the Strapline Queen! xx
The newsletter's arrived and makes me wonder -
these overcrowded underpants worn by Scottish prisoners. Are they male prisoners, by any chance? I think we should be told.
Humph, RJD
Thanks!
My FIRST (and last, I expect!)- down to the beach for a celebratory dram, anyone?
My first' ''winkey thing'' today, too!
La- la-la-la-la! :o)
Mollyxx
RJD - no offence taken and smiley was deployed perfectly!!
Am going to have a concerted strapline effort - as soon as that part of my brain has recovered from february.
Frances O -
I had assumed they were male prisoners; for some reason dirty pants and men seem to go together.....
was just teasing!!
The webcam will be off between 17:00 - 18:00 this evening, replaced with an audio feed of 大象传媒 Radio 4.
Very wise, Jonnie. Otherwise I fear Eddie will throw a tantrum during the programme!
Fifi ;o)
jonnie (22)
Do you think that the news monster, of which Mr. Mayor speaks in his posting, loves to eat audio feed? I was just thinking that it might be dangerous to let him have some for a whole hour.
On a much more serious note, well an equally frivolous note if I am to be honest, could you give us an update on how the pmblog poll is going?
Thanks.
H.
Right you lot.
Sumofyuse are always doing these little face things ;o) and ;oD and :o( or whatever.
Anybody care to give us a definitive list and what they actually mean.
I'd hate to insult someone inadvertently {:=(
You know, witchi, having had several boyfriends whose encyclopaedic knowledge of machiney-type stuff did not extend to the washing machine, I wonder whether you might be right...
my turn to ;o)
, Featuring "Scooter" Libby.

Re 22 - Nice view of the Cransley at 17.59, with dulcet strings......
I'm relieved to read, re the dirty old lags' knickers:
"Barlinnie governor Bill McKinlay said a working group had been set up to consider complaints over prison underwear."
Or so according to
Sorry no Cheques live here, but we have 2 Hollandais (very saucy!) and a Pole (who does dance very well). Will they be acceptable?
P.S. What is a 'Strapline'?
RJD,

Heeelp!
OK, I know I sinned; I was tired, I made a gratuitously negative comment on the beach last night about the hunkier gender (I did write a 3-letter-work for gender but guessed i might get moderated..)
I sent myself immediately off the naughty step, took my kitchen with me, and have been baking brownies, florentines, bread (granary, herb, and sun-dried-tomato-and-red-leicester-has-to-be-tried-to-be-believed), and everything chocolate-based, ever since.
I tried to re-enter society this evening, but just can't get in. All old links; everything since 25/02 seems to have disappeared. What gives? Have I been barred? Is it a tech glitch (surely not ;-) ) or what? Please will one of the more forgiving beachers please give me the entry code. I have piles of yummy food and can't get to the bar to leave it for you.
Anna Rex

from the list near the top right.

Ed I - Thanks.
I think I'll only go as far as :o) and :o(
Jacques - Two things.
First - I am the one who questioned your nationality some time ago. My apologies and welome.
Second - The strapline is the byline or motto that helps to describe or identify something, in this case the Blog. The strapline here is immediately under the large PM at the top of the thread. If you scroll up you will see it currently reads "Never despair wiith Eddie Mair" and was sent in by Molly
Anna Rex -I think you'll find you need to send Eddie a cheque for 拢100 if you want to get back into the blog. He's getting rather ruthless. I fear it 's the campaign fund for his 大象传媒 Chairman bid. For 拢100, you either get a strapline at the top of the page, (Molly paid up today, & obviously outbid whoever was on for a few hours this morning - like I said, ruthless) or you get any number of entries on the blog for a day.
Of course, if you want a photo posting (did you see my frog brothel ones yesterday?) then I'm afraid you're looking at not a lot of change out of 拢1000. Still - it's worth it!
RE: Humph (24)
Humph requested a Poll a few days ago:-
"When it comes to votes, many people are swayed by slogans rather than policies.
There are a number of slogans flying around the Frog, and the related PM program, at the moment but which one gets your vote? NB. You are allowed to vote for your own slogan if it appears in the list."
Here are the latest results based on 30 votes, I think Hugh could do with a few perhaps :-(
------------------------------------------------------
"Let the hearing begin? used by Hugh, our foreign correspondent"
0 of 30 total votes (0%)
"See you on the Ice? used by Eric, editor of the occasional e-mail."
1 of 30 total votes (3.3%)
"See you on the rice? used by NBP (New blog prince) Marc "
1 of 30 total votes (3.3%)
"It's your carp? used by J.R. Hartley"
4 of 30 total votes (13.3%)
"Let the healing begin? used by ED. E. Mair, whoever he is."
4 of 30 total votes (13.3%)
"It may be crap but it's my crap? Used by Froggers, Lurkers and other People (FLOP)"
20 of 30 total votes (66.7%)
To add to the vote please go to
The system allows 1 vote per day. Think carefully and remember you must be over 18 to vote.
Re: RJD and the smiley's
Now, as you read Ed's Wikipedia link.
Tell us what XP is
Just checking it's all been taken on board :-)
and a windows operating system does NOT count!
Jonnie
Well I never expected an exam! :o)
XP = Straining, disgust, bad joke, dead, dead from laughing, silliness
But the definitions sound too broad in scope for me. I really think I'll only go as far as :o) and :o(
Greetings on St David's Day!
Cymru am byth!
Annasee(36))
Who let on- c'mon- own up chaps!
On the other hand, style and wit always shine through on the blog.....
Now , where's my..........? ;o)

X-p
If you know what I mean...
And Jonnie,
What's :-*p
502!
RJP @ 35
Thank you for the welcome and explaination. I would never have guessed what a strapline was - in fact, I had never noticed them before.
I see that the cheque of Big Sis had been cashed between the time of your explaination and be reading it.
As the last visitor to this section was Aperitif @ 11;44, I hope that the blog is working. I will push the 'Submit' button now.............
Very slow, about 2 minutes - but it was accepted.
I had a toy train set with some flat trucks that bore the legend "XP". I suspect it stood for "Express"
(though being pulled by a clockwork 0-4-0T locomotive it probably wasn't ever an appropriate title).
PM - Take once a day with liquid
Jacques - that's brilliant!!!!!
best strapline I've heard for ages!!
and it will be helpful to anyone new on the blog:-
"Very slow, about 2 minutes - but it was accepted."
(45)
just brilliant...
noone's been back here it seems...
wot, no straplines?
anyway, my final entries for straplines....
"Everything in moderation"
"Mair: the safe pair of hands between the posts"
"Smacking the bottom of the newly delivered news-baby"
"Eddie Mair: the Krupnik of news-vodkas"
"PM: where technology is an act of faith"
"PM: running a current through affairs to see if it twitches"
"PM: Fair. Good. Slight or moderate, occasionally rough."
oh, that's enough for now.... no one comes back here anyway...
