As it happens
I rather enjoyed the content of the programme. The stuff on the blog earlier, and in the newsletter, was not really a joke. The news diary was rather quiet for today. We could have done more on stories you heard earlier in the day but we thought - nah. So there were blank spaces in the running order for much of the day...or at times, stories we were rather bored by. We wanted them to be replaced with things we liked and in the end they were.
Mind you - maybe you hated it. We can't please everyone. I am intrigued though by an email we got while we were on the air. A woman heard me read a comment from the Blog (about cannabis) and emailed to say - hey, that's my long lost brother..(or it may have been cousin...I'm not at work and can't check the details). I emailed back to say that he was on the blog and to contact him that way. I hope she did. Will keep you posted if I hear more.
Eddie "Cilla" Mair. I just hope you're a better singer :-)
Eddie: How very satisfying for you and the team. It was a good programme. And Canny Grannie was a good lead - Just look at all the comments she's produced!
What a lovely outcome if two siblings are reunited! Well, I'm HOPING it will be a lovely outcome - you can never be sure, can you? :o)
Now, Mr. Mair, there was a very interesting play this afternoon on Radio 4 about people who find sleep difficult. I thought of you. One thing that was said was that it is advisable, if sleep is a problem, not to drink coffee after 2 p.m.
Sleep well!
Big Sister (2) It was a fun lead. Until after 4pm we didn't know if we would get the woman herself but it workout out fine.
The caffeine thing re sleep is probably spot on, though I find it doesn't put me off sleeping. Having said that I had a total of (ahem) nine espressos before noon today. I eased off, to avoid a heart attack
Eddie! I just used the listen again function for PM as I missed the programme due to slowly dying with this bronchitis. I think I need a lung transplant. Good luck on cutting down the caffeine though- how about 8 expressos tomorrow? Start off small.
I've been trying to formulate a response to the Pot story on the below thread, but have failed to write something appropriate without a) giving away too much identifying personal information b) sounding like a member of the Cheech and Chong fan club.
Fundamentally, my view comes down to this: If people are quietly leading their own lives without affecting others, then they should be left alone, whatever their practices. But it sounds pathetic in view of what everyone else is saying.
Recovering Burned-out Hippie.
Belinda, I hope you are feeling better.
After reading through the earlier thread which has happily brought the 'Lurkers out' can I suggest you try cultivating the said plant - it may help with your bronchitis.
I'm with you, she is 68 and hardly likely to become a heroine addict. She probably will end up in prison but this is what happens in our 'Nanny state'! My (SO) took a different stance and thinks if she has broken the law she has to take the consequences
Try some Echinacea (Bioforce) from Holland and Barrett. It'll have you feeling better in no time Belinda -- get it in quick before it's banned!
There may have been some confusion as where people should have left their 'glassbox' (programme comments) entries.
I wasn't sure?
Gossipmistress gave an excellent programme synopsis on Tuesday's thread which I'll paste here:-
------------------------------------------------------
At 06:20 PM on 07 Mar 2007, Gossipmistress wrote: OK - I've been listening carefully tonight!
Patricia Tabrum & her pot plants - quite interesting but it went on a bit, especially when she was waxing lyrical.
Indonesian Air Crash - Allessandro Bertelotti was a little difficult to understand at times but amazingly cool about it. Good questions.
Ministers not attending european meetings - Sarah Ludford managed to quote her statistics in 3 different forms - 4 in 10/2 in 11, then one third, then 80%! (Not PM's fault I know!). Dennis McShane got the bit between his teeth a bit towards the end.
The 'Yellow Pimpernel' - (filler alert! filler alert!)was this put in solely to allow the 'pot' joke at the end????!!
Iranian women's rights - could have done with a bit longer on them, interesting. Excellent interviewee.
Ernest Gallo - would he have got so much time on another day?
Gordon Brown's root canal - the story came from The Sun, and should have stayed there :-P)
Sorry I'm sounding very critical aren't I?
Maybe I was prejudiced by being told in advance it was a slack news day!
Hi Jonnie (6), there's no glass box as such yet - we'll probably start it in a week or so. But all comments anywhere are welcome!
Agree with GM about the 'yellow pimpernel' (though he's not really up to buckling any swashes is he?), the root canal was a bit lame (sorry) and I would have liked to hear more from Iran...one thing that puzzled me is how was your interviewee available for comment? Had she been released and why?
Other than that for a no news day it was quite entertaining but not as engaging as usual. Sorry - I guess its the high standards that you've been setting.
Thanks jonnie. I'm still suffering over here, but back at work unfortunately. Trust me to become ill during one of the most glorious weather periods this year so far.
