Thank you Caroline and Eddie. This is a beautiful picture, serene and evocative. I'd like to see more pictures, please.

Definitely interest. Thanks to Caroline, Eddie and all.

btw, Eric, is this a record for the number of new bits of froggery in a day?

You're not tempting us to go for that big number - was it 30,000? Or was that The Archers?

    (retires in confusion)

It's beautiful, If you tip the monitor upside down it resembles the British Isles?

It does - I tried it.

The little test idea from marc was great - it worked better, and was nearly as amusing as the Newsletter.

Jonnie @ 4 - Believe me, it wasn't meant 2 be amusing. U should have seen the terror in my eyes as Eddie approached me with a microphone in his hands...

    ...ah, the Shipping Forecast.

While a land-lubber, I grew up hearing the shjpping forecast, not this modern rubbish, the genuine thing at all quadrants of the day on LW - (why is it only on FM occasionally these days?)

"The General Synopsis at 06:00; Low, 975, ...."

Viking, Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight, Humber, Thames, Dover, Wight, Portland, Plymonth, Biscay, Finisterre, Sole, Lundy, Fastnet, Irish Sea, Shannon, Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Fair Isle, Faeroes, SE Iceland.

and reports from the coastal stations. Wick...(this being before they were all "automatic", and started at Tiree).

But didn't Front Row take SeaGreen to an exhib. of pictures of the sea areas a couple of years ago, (not sure the painter in this case). Perhaps PM can get details from seagreen on this instance.

I had to miss that exhib, so the more pics of the sea areas here the better!

With all apologies to the family, Fitzroy! Ha!

Deep (6) despite the lamented loss of Finisterre I do rather like the acknowledgment of poor Fitzroy - bit belated but better late than never, and it did bring him out of the shadows.

John (6): Back in the dark days of last year when I had chronic insomnia and was in desperate need of a North Utsire-sized Prozac, I used to listen every night to the 12.50am Shipping Forecast with Sailing By, the main forecast, the coastal stations, in the inshore forecast and then the boring normal weather one. It always helped me to drift to sleep with a comforted smile on my face.

I miss it dearly (seriously) and I can never catch it on Listen Again nowadays as it is replaced by the the shorter 05.20 forecast. If Radio 4 could find a way of 'saving' the 12.50am forecast online for me, then I would be a very happy bunny indeed.

If I can't get to sleep I am occasionlly irritated by the shipping forecast (I know, heresy) or more often by 'Sailing By'.

But mostly it either makes me feel gloriously cosy in my warm bed, and zzzzzz follow, or I try to imagine all the places mentioned on a mental map - which, I know, is full of gaps. I think of friends and family in Lewis, Aberdeenshire and West Wales as well as happy journeys to so many parts of our islands, and a good life in Scotland and N Ireland. It's as good as a hottie bottle.

I heard the item about the exhibition a couple of days ago, & remember thinking - "it would be great to see these pictures on the blog" knowing of course that the team would respond, as always, to my psychic promptings. And they have. Can we have some more of the paintings please?

I only heard a bit of the programme last night, & it was very late when I got to check on the blog. But I loved the little interview with Marc! For some reason, the image which sprang to mind was that of a poor wriggling butterfly being pinned to a board. Horrible, I know. Was that how you felt, Marc?

Is this the right box to join the conversation? I havent a clue but shall go ahead anyway; yes that Lundy painting is part of the exhbition that was referred to. I havent tried turning it upside down yet but its an interesting thought, some paintings I do work on upside down---the paintings, not me. I shall try to put up another pic if I havent forgotten how.

Caroline - welcome to our box, and thanks for the painting(s) :o)

Jonnie @ 4: I tried turning my monitor over but it corrected the picture to be the right way up. clever stuff this technology. Had to turn myself upside down instead... which looked a bit crazy in the office. At least it's the weekend so not many people are around to see.
Most beautiful picture. Shipping forecast always reminds me of "The good ship lifestyle" by Chumbawamba....

No one commented (perhaps noticed) that I missed Bailey out of the list yesterday. How could I? But it is all from memory, honest, I did not look it up (and if I had, I would have included the Utsires, and Trafalgar seems to appear on occasion).

John W, that might have been because we all have total faith in you.

Or, in my case, it all looked convincing and (O shock) Bailey is not one of my favourites.

Yes, I admit it. I have favourites. I'm partial to Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, and I rather like Dogger, Fisher, German Bight.
