Not so blue

Eddie Mair | 10:24 UK time, Monday, 5 March 2007

Well, arriving at the office today and it was confirmed the blog has been "fixed" after yesterday's eye-watering colour change. I've tried not to ask too much about it as it might make me want to punch someone, and my parole officer is very strict about that kind of thing. I don't think it was anything that anyone intended, by way of a makeover or relaunch or anything. We're putting it down in the cock-up column.

It's quite a big column.

The next part is intended to be 'helpful'.

I wasn't during Eddie's famous Blue Period (note artistic reference, folks!), but it has occurred to me that, even in IE (which I also use) the problem may, just may, have been solvable if people used the feeds button, 'cos that doesn't carry all the coloured stuff.

Did anybody try it? All you have to do is press the Feeds PM button on the right - I think you can also do it from the toolbar, but I'm not sure and can't check while writing this - and the content of the blog appears without all the razzamataz. It's also quite a useful way for navigating quickly round the blog.

    Just a thought.

I've just experimented myself using my 'helpful suggestion'.

And it's not so helpful, is it?

    Sigh.

HEADLINE FORECAST: Sunny spells for a while but showers popping up in places. Staying dry for most of us.

    MAX TEMP: 11C

    SUNSET: 5.45pm

OVERNIGHT: Wet and windy. Heavy rain and a very strong southerly wind.

    MIN TEMP: 8C

TOMORROW: Rain clears away early, but more showers on the way. High -12C.

    FURTHER 3 DAY OUTLOOK:
WEDNESDAY: More showers on the way.
THURSDAY: Mostly dry with some rain later in the day.
FRIDAY: A mix of sunshine and showers. Breezy at times too.

Appy, you've got a point. Eddie's Blue Period is clearly not yet over.

More of a Max Miller Period, in fact.

    I can hear him now:

"We're putting it down in the cock-up column.
    It's quite a big column."

The Beeb used to ban him you know. Times have changed!

STRAPLINE FORECAST: Continuing the same as the past few days. Sometimes bright and can be quite dry. Not likely to be heavy and forbidding.
MAX TEMP: 11C but much warmer on The Beach
SUNSET: 5.45pm. NC bar open all day so you probably won't notice
OVERNIGHT: Very, very windy. Not improved by the proximity of the camels.
MIN TEMP: 8C but again much better on The Beach
TOMORROW: is another day (Gone with the Wind - I told you it would be breezy).
    FURTHER 3 DAY OUTLOOK:
    WEDNESDAY: More weather.
    THURSDAY: More weather continues.
    Its FRIDAY: It's 5 o'clock: It's Crackerjack.

How odd! Lou's Strapline forecast has diappeared and been replaced by a comment from RJD (hello there!) but my response to Lou has appeared.

I suspect Dirk is about again today.

Whatever is happening? First a headline forecast, then a strapline forecast, which disappears, then a headline forecast .....

Somebody somewhere with power in their hands is trying to create madness on the blog.

Let the Healing Begin? Not while the inmates are running the asylum!

It was not just IE it was Opera also. I think the blog prince must have had a text only download to his mobile. Hence the readability.

With my work hat on colour schemes are inportant. Black on White is very good. Avoid red blue combimations and Green yellow.

Remember some folk have colour deficiencies. 1 in 7 men I believs is what is quoted.

I鈥檓 Professor McCann; I鈥檓 the memory man.
I鈥檝e a memory no-one would suspect.
I remember things you鈥檝e all forgotten
    And remember what I recollect.

    I鈥檝e answers for every old question;
No question at all puzzles me.
So will somebody ask me to have one,
And see what the answer will be.

How high is the Nelson鈥檚 Column?
    It鈥檚 as high as a long piece of string;
But the column is higher in winter
鈥機os he has his hair cut in the Spring.

Who built the Forth Bridge鈥擨 can tell you鈥
    A Scotsman named Abram McGee.
He built the Forth Bridge and the fifth one
After somebody else had built three.

Who鈥檇 like to ask the next question?
Now what is it you鈥檇 like to learn?
Would I pay back the fiver I borrowed?
Pardon me, Sir. You鈥檙e out of your turn.

What was the date of the Flood, Sir,
When the whole of the world was a lake鈥
When Joan of Arc floated a company
And Noah was burnt at the stake?

    That was April BC twenty-seven,
April the month of All Fools,
The year that Millwall won the Ascot Gold Cup
    Under Marquis of Raspberry鈥檚 rules.

    Who was it discovered America?
That鈥檚 a hard one, but I鈥檒l have a try.
    Columbus discovered America, Sir,
But for heaven鈥檚 sake don鈥檛 ask me why.

How many miles to Brazil, Sir?
To Brazil, that鈥檚 a hard nut to crack.
It鈥檚 as far again as it is when you鈥檙e half-way,
And it鈥檚 just twice as far there and back.

    Where was Thomas a-Beckett murdered?
Well the yarn that the story book tells
Is that poor Beckett fell on the altar steps
The night he fought Bombardier Wells.

The date of the armistice, right Sir.
I鈥檒l answer that question quite pat.
It was what鈥et me see鈥t was when鈥t was then鈥
No, no, no, it was later than that.

    That鈥檚 the second time you鈥檝e asked that question;
I heard you the first time鈥攄on鈥檛 shout.
Will I pay back the fiver I borrowed?
    Moderator put that fellow out.

What were the last words of poor King Charles?
    That鈥檚 easily answered, I鈥檓 sure.
The last words he said鈥斺淚f you chop off my head
I sha鈥檔鈥檛 speak to you any more.鈥

How big is the mole out of Zeebrugge鈥
The mole where we made our attack?
I don鈥檛 think I鈥檓 wrong, it鈥檚 as broad and as long
As a mole on a chorus girl鈥檚 back.

What do I know of Napoleon?
Now whose leg are you trying to pull?
What did he mean鈥攏ot tonight Josephine?
He meant that his programme was full.

I can go back through the ages
When New Zealand mutton was lamb,
    Back, back, back until Domesday,
    Back, back to old Alabam.

Who鈥檒l ask me another nice question?
What? Where was the Titanic wrecked?
Where was it wrecked? Yes, I鈥檝e got it.
On the ocean, Sir. Am I correct?

What date did I bob my moustache, Sir?
    To answer that鈥檚 easy enough.
It happened just twelve months ago, Sir鈥
I鈥檝e still got the date on my cuff.

    How many days hath September?
Now that wants some thinking about.
I can tell you the days of October
鈥機os that鈥檚 when my gold watch runs out.

    Who first invented the bull-fight?
Now don鈥檛 take a rise out of me.
You want me to answer the Spanish,
And then you鈥檒l say 鈥淪uck it, and see!鈥

What was the date Cain killed Abel?
Oh yes, I remember the crime.
I think it was Thursday, not certain,
I was only quite young at the time.

The date of the great fire of London?
Well that鈥檚 a bit hot, I鈥檒l admit.
    It鈥檚 the first decent question you鈥檝e asked me;
For a change I must think for a bit.

    Good heavens! My memory鈥檚 failing.
What time do they close around here?
That鈥檚 the worst of a rotten bad memory鈥
I鈥檝e forgotten the wife鈥檚 lunchtime beer.
Big Sis - I won鈥檛 half cop it!
