Hello - it's Carrie here

Carrie Gracie | 13:09 UK time, Friday, 20 April 2007

Eddie's right. BE NICE! And what is this glass box anyway? Is it somewhere I can lie down? Someone fill me in. Now you may not watch News 24. But if you do, you'll know that I've already been slaving away today. Competing with Carolyn for the model worker badge. Up since 5am. On air since 8.30. And what I bring to PM as a result is very nice hair and make up. Pm is physically two floors down from News 24. But I haven't made a judgement about whether the same applies to editorial values. No time to chat. By ten past five you may be wishing Eddie was back but I'll thank you to keep such opinions to yourselves, at least until Monday.

    Hello Carrie!

Even if you bring any hair to the PM studio, it's more than Eddie does.

    Just kidding.

Am I the only listener who no longer notices whether a presenter is 'a woman' or 'a man' ... only whether he or she is 'any good'?

A similar phenomenon crept up on me when I moved to Newcastle some years ago. After about two years I stopped going: 'Ooooh, another Scot!' because we/they were as prevalent as the Geordies.

I'm sure I heard an unfamiliar newsreader's voice on R4 earlier this week, back-announced as 'Carrie' Someone.

If that was you, Carrie, then I liked your voice very much. Nice contralto.

Welcome to the mad house.... ;o)

Nice to have your pic on the PM Gallery Carrie!

I know the Reverend Green and myself will be interested in how you are going to talk up to Big Ben. Just mind the gap!

Carrie, welcome to the PM Blog! I hadn't realised that you were vying with Carolyn for the "Busiest Broadcaster" award:-) I'm sure things'll go smoothly this afternoon, and we'll keep something to drink for you to enjoy after the programme on the Nick Clarke Memmorial Bar (NCMB for short) on the Beach....

Welcome again, Carrie. And you have no idea how privileged you are to get your photograph up on the blog so quickly!

It may be two floors down for you but we all think that PM is a step up in class!

hmmm, I'm not sure it that went through, so apologies if this appears twice...

It's no wonder that the ladies are taking over at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ newsroom. They do three times as much work as the chaps and probably don't run up such a big coffee bill. And they are pretty prompt at getting their photo over on the sidebar. I don't recall seeing a recent one of Eddie there at all?

Mind you, the stylists invoice might be quite big. That's one thing Eddie won't be troubling the ´óÏó´«Ã½ accounts department with. These ladies are all so impeccably turned out, even when they are on the radio and we can't see them! Glad to see that standards are being maintained.

Ask the production team about the real glass box. My guess is that you'll be dragged in there after the show for a round of 'constructive criticism'. Or they might let you off this one, seeing as you're having a long day?

The version of the Glass Box that appears here is a daily thread which Eddie places on this Blog, just before the show starts, to allow both during-show and post-facto listener feedback to the PM team. If he gets a post which is relevant to a package he may even read it out later on in the programme.

So, far from reserving judgement until Monday feedback will start to appear on that thread during the programme. Assuming that you or one of the team creates it, of course. One way of avoiding feedback is not to create a forum for it to happen. :-(

Will someone be on-hand to make sure that your hair and make-up are kept up-to-scratch during the programme? It's important to look one's best for the studio webcam. Did they mention that to you? This is radio with pictorial coverage! Still, you're used to the moving television screen, so being on-camera is natural for you.

Have a good one. And welcome to PM.

    Si. :-)

P.S. do you have the ´óÏó´«Ã½ limo reserved to carry you home afterwards?

Carrie, are you going to be a regular? if so we may need a picture posted on the sidebar of the blog (with or without cat)

If you are going to the beach, you may want to take your own deck chair. From what I've seen they fill up fast, particularly on a Friday!

PS to the Blog prince - is two hours really too fast to resubmit a blog comment?

    Hair looks fab ! :-)

Glass Box? More like a display cabinet if that pic is anything to go by.

Perhaps, as a bit of an ice breaker, Carrie could share out some of her degrees - for those of us who need some? Just a thought.

Hey - well done Carrie for getting onto the Blog so quickly - and with a photo too! I just want you to remember that we're all taking notes so that we can deconstruct your performance in the Glass Box later. No pressure, then. Have you got the newsletter out yet?

The photos of these gorgeous ladies make BPMarc (now he's not New any more!) look rather shy. Could we please have the coy ''I'll- pretend-the-camera's-not-there'' photo replaced? After all, Marc knows us all well-enough now to look us all in the eye! ;o)

Well, Carrie posted her first frog (is that even legal?) almost 2 hours ago. Have we seen another? Has anyone received a newsletter? Good grief! It's not a very auspicious start for a woman out to make a good first impression! Hm, perhaps I mean second impression there.

Just thought that I'd back Rachel up in her implication that, whilst a jolly, good natured lot, we do have our standards. And award winning standards they are too!

[Ah, the newsletter just arrived. She's good this girl.]

Welcome Carrie, & so nice to see a photo so soon. My, you're really upping the stakes in the glamorous- presenter- for- PM business, aren't you? Eddie might as well put a paper bag over his head when he comes back.

Someone mentioned the ´óÏó´«Ã½ limo - I expect you'll find Eddie's "borrowed "it to get to Leeds in the style to which he hopes to grow accustomed. Although now he's getting these awards on an almost weekly basis, he's perhaps been given his own. Can you tell us?

I can't believe jonnie & Simon once wrote to you about your hair. Honestly. Some men have no tact. I'm sure you'll find that we are all wonderfully supportive & tactful - at least until you've left the building tonight. Just don't log on at home afterwards...

Good luck in your new mission!

    Welcome Carrie.

But what is it with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ newsroom, making Sequin and Carrie do two programmes in a day? It was not long ago Sequin did Today *and* PM, but she also regularly does PM then the next morning's Today (such as yesterday/today), or Westminster Hour and the following Today.

Now we learn that Carrie was also broadcasting this morning.

What's happened to the other PM regulars, Ritala Shah, Yvonne Murray, Nigel Wrench......none of them available to stand in?

Yet they still look and sound so bright eyed and bushy tailled. They both deserve after PM drinks on the beach.
