I had a lovely
chat a few minutes ago with the female gondolier who's now working the canals of Venice. I mentioned it in the newsletter and look:
Stewart writes: "Sorry neither are women but here are two gondoliers doing some work ferrying Venetians across the grand canal and not fleecing tourists. This was Easter 2005 so not that recent. Enjoy."
And you know what, Stewart? It may be out of date and not really relevant...but isn't that what PM's all about?
(And thanks to Vyle for her tip: I brightened the photo from the first posting)
I can send you some photos of Venice circa 1985 if you're interested?...
The ´óÏó´«Ã½. Old news is what we do.
How's the campaign for the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Chair going these days, Eddie?:o)
Picture so dark I thought they must have gond ownstream.
It is quite easy to adjust brightness and contrast in MS Picture Manager...
I have been wondering whether a female gondolier is a gondoliera.
A titchy one might be a goldolieretta.
May one say 'titchy' in these policically paranoid times?
Fifi
See how I sent the picture anonymously!
We had a great week staying on the lagoon.
Ah, The Merchant of Venice. Lovely photograph.
Great Post.
(tee hee!)
My feeling about all the gondoliers we came across in February was that they were all muttering, 'I'm not havin' that in my boat', until they spotted some Koreans and then pounced....
Lovely pic, Stewart. Naughty Eddie, trying to put bad comparisons in the poor woman's mouth. She was delightful, and good luck to her.
I never knew there were "private" gondoliers. So is she the gondola equivalent of a mini cab.?
Oh dear Vyle! You'll never get that tickle while Eric thinks you're a girl.
Yes I'm confused too. Vyle - I don't know why, but I've always thought you were a man. Am I right or is Eddie right re your gender?
hee, hee, nikki n. Great sense of humour (ie very silly).
Have you been photoshopping, Eddie?
Vyle is definitely a blokie, Annasee. (Or a girl with a bloke's name.)
For what it's worth, I, too, assumed Vyle is a chap.
Why does it seem more romantic to hear of a lady working the canals of Venice, than a lady working the streets of London?
I may sound like an old woman, but I'm actually a grumpy old man (56).
Appy, the curious thing is that BJ was talking about the tickle during a test match, where the 2 teams would have been blokes. Should I be worried?
Vyle (16) - As I recall, BJ only said you were waiting for a tickle. He offered no comment on who was likely to supply it or whether you had expressed any preference.
RJD (17) - That's all right, then.
Vive la gondoliere.
Vyle (16), RJD (17), I don't know why, but I imagined it would be performed by someone called Tess. She sounds female to me.
GROAN!
Ap - Hahahaha! More free advice for you. Never laugh out loud with a mouthful of coffee. Where's my tissues?
This blog has gone full circle - we're back to balls again!
I tend to ignore unsolicited advice, RJD, but on this occasion I think I'll bear it in mind. Btw, circular balls are the best kind. Only rugby can be played with odd shaped balls.
Appy (19) - if you look at threads this old -
Yes, it was a Tess Match, now you come to mention it.
Oh Vyle! That's worse than one of mine! ;-)
