In the Glass Box
last night we had a long - very very long - chat about the Glass Box that will appear here soon. Everyone was very animated and full of ideas.
Sometime next week on the programme (and it will be available here) there will be a package that's been put together about what the "real" glass box is and what it means to the people who make the programme. It's intended to be one of a series of ideas to instill in non-froggers what the glass box on the blog will be. We're chewing over other ideas for introducing the concept to people.
In the "real" box last night there was talk of videotaping our meetings, inviting listeners in, or even just having them on a conference call to take part in the 1800 discussions. Those may or may not happen. Our first priority is establishing the fact that there is a place for PM listeners to say what they think, discuss it with other listeners and to have their comments read and responded to by programme makers. One of the topics that came up last night was whether interest/pressure groups might try to hijack it. That's always a possibility. But we won't be distracted from trying what we think is a good idea - involving our listeners in the programme in the most meaningful way we've been able to so far.
Just as in the real Glass Box, there will be some 'opinions' that need not be taken literally ... and many with insights you'll find valuable.
I think this will prove to be the innovation that other programmes will seek to copy. And it won't work in quite the same way for other programmes, because each one has to find the way to interact with its own core audience.
Can't wait to see what you come up with as a start....
Fifi
If this is going to be an audio package of the type that my 'real time player' just won't play, Jonnie can you put it on the Froggers Refuge for me in that format that my machine can read? ie the one with the old fashioned looking loudspeaker? It's worth a double G & T at the NCMB (if that's your tipple of choice). Manga takk as we say in our Norwegian lessons.
If "Recent Comments" is to be believed (hahahaha), Admin Annie posted here hours ago and it still hasn't appeared. The whole blog seems to be very sluggish. I hope that discussion is a bit livelier in the real Glass Box.
Have we had the much heralded March improvements to the Blog yet?
Good for PM!
Maybe you can persuade your colleagues at Radio 3 to do the same?!
Puuuuuussssshhhhh!
About 11 hours for a post to appear!
What's the point of trying, eh?
I see I have finally made it through and I'm sorry RJ that it wasn't really worth waiting for. I must say though that it was very pleasing to see my name, as I rarely appear under 'recent comments'.
I saw one that appeared after 6 days a few threads back RJD -- if I remember where I'll flag it up as evidence! Improvements?! Round parts!!
Oh Admin Annie please! - no reflection on you. You consistently talk more sense than I do. I'm just a tad fed up with this abysmally performing blog. Sony nomination for PM – okay. For the blog – maybe, maybe next year.
I think I've turned invisible again, I may just give up.....
RJ - if you're visiting back, thank you very much for your kind words and although it's a cliche, we all make our own contribution. Now I have to go and shout at my husband because he has fed the cat within smelling distance of my study and left my door open. I love our cats but the smell of cat food does tend to make me gag abit.
A better title for the glass box would be 'up ourselves'.
You are only journalists. You are not the news; you are one channel for reporting it.
Pleased as I am to know that you would like to make even better programmes you appear to me to have got this latest weeze significantly out of proportion.
admin annie - I'm sure I replied to you days ago - wonder where it went.
