It's wonderful
news that the September problem has finally been fixed. And so soon after we reverted to September by choice yesterday....:o)
Good to see too the link for Alan Johnston on the blog, though of course many froggers already followed the link we posted the other week. If you didn't then...please do so now.
Now all we need is an explanation for the links below each thread...
Have a good one CQ.
Sequin and Mr. Mayor have just posted blog items on the same day. Does anyone else fear that we may have two presenters on tonight's programme? Is PM about to go down the two-people-doing-the-job-of-one route that seems to affect all other news-type broadcasts on the Beeb? Yikes!
H.
Identity crisis Eddie?
Morning Eric. Have fun in Leeds (But not too much without the rest of us, obviously) :-)
You just can't stay away, can you??
Enjoy Leeds - the sun's shing here, just 12 miles away (so near, yet so far!) so I hope it's a bright day for you all round - although I'm guessing that will largely depend on your panelists . . . .
Leeds? Why is Eddie in Leeds?
[SSC follows hunch... which is unusual, as his hunch usually follows him]
Ah, Eddie's locked the Dimbleby in the loo again, so that he can present "Any Questions". I see from the web-page that this week's guests include:
Mr Benn (appearing as if by magic)
Mavis Davis
Sarah Teacher, LibDem Education Pokeperson
And
Digby Jones, star of Aqua's hit song "Calling Digby Jones"
Should be a good one.
Just got the newsletter - mnay congrats to Our Lord and Maister! Paving the way for the Sony's perhaps? Hope you enjoy the evening (if you checking this during the day) - we expect to be filled in on any fizz fuelled gossip! Or is it not that kind of do? Anyway, well done!!
12:30 and the newsletters wung (winged?) its way westward at top speed obviously!!
looking forward to CQ this evening - and for all the right reasons this time eddies away. Well Done, sir!
nikki noodle
Eddie,
Thanks for the news, but me thinks the way this blog performs at the moment we'll all be in April forever.
PUSH!
Eddie,
If you're off to Leeds in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ limo watch out for speed cameras...
West Yorkshire - Leeds A64 Citybound 1st after the traffic lights by ASDA at Killingbeck - 50mph
A64 West Yorkshire - Leeds A64 Citybound 2nd outside the Irish Centre, after Halton traffic lights. - 50mph.
A64 Leeds A64 also has cameras sited on the A64 between Seacroft and the inner ring road in both directions.
And the winner is...............
We will be listening Eddie, hope you have a great time.
For those of you who need the link :-
/radio4/news/anyquestions.shtml
And the panelists are :-
Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP: Secretary of State for International Development
Rt Hon David Davis MP: Shadow Home Secretary
Sarah Teather MP: Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Education and Skills
Sir Digby Jones: Skills Envoy and Former Director General of the CBI
Oooh Eddie - Congratulations!! Hope you really enjoy your day.
Sequin - any chance we might hear something about these coastguards on PM soon? I'm absolutely horrified that they are not adequately insured and would like to hear from someone official that they will be properly covered in future and that the nice youth worker who was on Today this morning will get some decent recompense. Don't you agree?
Well done Eddie. A much deserved award, enjoy the evening.
I had to google Eddie to find out about this award, but well done Eddie, thoroughly well-deserved. Although, I've never heard of Newspod...more investigation is necessary I fancy.
And there was me thinking he'd just gone early to Leeds!
Well done Eric! Of course, you already have the Aperitif awards for 'Best Presenter Ever' and 'Sexiest Voice in Broadcasting' and 'Presenter Most Likely to Cause a Projectile Tea Meets Laptop Incident', so this new award is clearly comparitively trivial, but I know you'll be gracious in your acceptance speech anyway. :-)
Congradulations on your award. I have published the Alan Johnston Banner on my Blog. I am telling people in Miami Florida About Alan Johnston.
Robert (14) Good man!
Eddie....congratulations. Please remember to put a pic of the award on the Blog!
Seeing as I don't subscribe to the newsletter can someone please tell me what Eddie has won?
Si.
Congratulations Eddie, a truly fine broadcaster!
Maybe all these awards are resulting in a stretching of Eddie's scalp, thus challenging his follicles?
Congratulations anyway, and of course, to the Team, without whom it wouldn't happen.
xx

Si -
'Eddie's away today - for good reason. He's picking up a very special award -
for "Best Individual Contribution to Radio 2006". Along with John Humphrys and
Stephen Fry he's been recognised by the Voice of the Listener and Viewer 2006
Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.'
There we go!
Ta for that link jonnie. Some people are definitely suited to radio, hey?
As a side comment, I note that you can download transcripts of previous programmes and was just thinking what a godsend that could be for today's undergraduates - remembering that I had spent hours transcribing chunks of Question Time - when it occurred to me to check if QT make transcripts available. They don't. In their FAQ they say that they don't have the resources available to produce transcripts of every show. Hm, but Any Questions does?
Si,
"Best Individual Contribution to Radio 2006". Along with John Humphrys and Stephen Fry he's been recognised by the Voice of the Listener and Viewer 2006 Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
xx

Cheers WW!
And quite right too.
Si.
Simon:
Voice of the Listener and Viewer 2006 Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
Looking at the 2005 awards pictures, it looks as though Eddie will get a very practical award into which he'll be able to fit a good half bottle of champers. Perhaps we could have a whip round to send him the funds to buy one as he wings his way up to Leeds tomorrow?
Jonathan Dimbleby - your days are numbered!
Congratulations, Eddie!
Hope you get the ecard - and See you on the Ice tomorrow in Leeds! (No, only aurally - oh, really!)
Re; the e-mail. Are you pursuing or persuading an American to comment on the situation in Iraq and the American surge?
Well done Ed. You deserve the award!
And congrats from me too, Eddie! I hope you remember(ed) to mention the Frog in your acceptance speech!
This was sent to Eddie (with message) - and I thought others might like to see. It's rather neat and v. appropriate!
Re John H :-( Mmm That is *not* a good photo - and he's quite a hansome chap, just ask Aperitif - or Big Sister come to that!
As regards the transcripts, well it must take forever, but Chris Jarvis tells me that it's software that does the majority of subtitles for telly. So a with a bit of polishing up afterwards that could be a solution.
Thank you, jonnie, for polishing up the Cat's Any Qs list of unusual suspects. Grin, btw.
Meanwhile, Eric, congratulations! But look out, Sequin might get an award soon for presenting over and above the call of duty.
Is it kool to get an award from VLV these days? Is the organisation, shall we say, more Paul than Mary Whitehouse in street terms?
*Another* award for Eddie? Britain's Mantlepiece industry must be booming in the wake of this.
Congratulations Mr. M.
Oh, and yes, glad to see the Alan Johnston link.
The freedom of the press, and therefore of journalists, is paramount for democracy. And while I'm wary about using the word democracy after GWB's hijacking of it, it seems to be the best way we've found so far of governing.
So remembering Alan, and his family and friends, is important. As is the fact that he was respected in Gaza. He seems to show that one can be quiet and courageous at the same time, and have integrity.
Well done Our Eddie!
Edie Eddie !! Carolyn's forgotten her Glassbox!
Err
The main contribution from me and of course the Reverend will back me up on this, is that Carolyn's gap was virtually non - existent (1.4")
It's not his best photo, granted, JH (22) and Jonnie (30), but I'd still give him a cuddle!
Re; Frances - Err probably not that Kool actually - but we'll keep quiet.
Let's say it's nice for him to be recognised - and a nice day off - without pulling a sicky eh ;-)
Missing ´óÏó´«Ã½ reporter Alan Johnston is still alive, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas says.
"Our intelligence services have confirmed to me that he's alive," Mr Abbas told reporters in Sweden.
Johnston, 44, has not been seen since he was seized at gunpoint on his way home in Gaza City on 12 March.
On Sunday, an unknown militant group said it had killed him, but the ´óÏó´«Ã½ said and Palestinian officials said they could not verify the claim.
Mr Abbas said he knew which group was holding Mr Johnston but did not give any details.
Jonnie - big grin
I've just switched on R4, and Sequin's at it again! She's presenting Today, and I guess she'll be on duty this evening as Eric's up in Leeds...
Sequin, do you never sleep?!?!?
Frances - 4.37am? Are you on Eric time??!
FFred - you're frogging pretty early yourself!
Ah, but I wasn't at work at the time, GM:-)
FF (39)
Yesterday I sent an email to Sequin/Wonderwoman/Carolyn about female sports commentators. You never know, it might be heard this evening.
Well thank you all for the kind words and Lou (9) for the very practical advice. It was a lovely do, and I mentioned the Blog and the Glass Box in my little speech - though trying to make an impact after Mr Fry was tricky for all the winners.
Eddie-
Late, as usual....anyway:
you were, are and always will be a STAR!
Congrats!
Mollyxx
And can we hear a recording of this speech Eddie (43)?
