Speaking after

Eddie Mair | 14:51 UK time, Wednesday, 11 April 2007

a hot toddy (papa can you hear me?) can I just say that with the benefit of hindsight, the buck stops with me.

I'm sorry I lack foresight but what can you do?

Ah. That explains the lack of newsletter. And I thought we had warped into those uncertain but interesting times of will it/wont it arrive. Eddie, I heard of a very good cure. It involved putting a hat at the end of the bed and drinking copious hot toddys. When you saw 2 hats you're cured! Well actually you just don't care if you are ill. Get better soon.

I hope you will let me borrow it for my collection, from which I select the wise words that adorn my email signature.

    The current one is:

When Elvis Presley died in 1977 there were 37 Elvis impersonators in the world. Today there are 48,000. If the current trend continues, by the year 2010, one out of every three people in the world will be an Elvis impersonator.

    Thank you Dozy!

I, too, am poorly sick. I have not been near my desk for a couple of days and may I extend my sympathies to Mr Ed.
My suggestion to help distract from the aches and pains is to lock the cats in the kitchen and put on old, favourite movies. I have worked my way through LOCAL HERO, BRASSED OFF, FULL MONTY, all three series of BETWEEN THE LINES, SAME TIME NEXT YEAR and am just about to dig out ELIZABETH (the Cate Blanchett one)
Best wishes to all those Bloggers feeling under the weather.

Poor you Eddie. Take your cue from Mr Butler and enjoy being sick. You could perhaps watch some old videos of Time Commanders like I've been doing. And not a rugby shirt in sight it has to be said.

Look - sorry to be unsympathetic (my family tell be I am horrible when they are sick) but I have had about as much of the sick today, here at the hospital, as I can take.

Now Mr Mair (we don't know each other well enough for 1st name terms - you may call me Matron), make sure you drink plenty, lots of sleep, alternating with reality TV to numb the mind, and you will feel lots better soon.

    Yours in empathetic fatigue

Well these are all very kind comments. Clearly I am not one to exaggerate the extent of my illness, though I did toy with the idea of starting a thread called The Pine Box.... I'll be back tomorrow

So when you were talking about your "very very very serious illness" last week, & we all thought you were joking, you mean you were really ill? And you struggled in to work yesterday? Oh dear, I feel suitably chastened for mocking you. And hope you are feeling better now.

However... speaking as a freelancer, (whence cometh no sickpay whatsoever as you may know), I do notice that people who get sick pay are ill more often than I am. The only time I have been absent from work is when I have been in hospital. On the other hand, people are not paying to hear my dulcet tones like they are yours, so I guess if you can't speak, you can't work. Maybe there's a place for a mimed PM show via the webcam, with signing added ? You've tried most things, but I've not seen that yet.

Now I shall listen to Carolyn & see if she's nodded off during one of the taped reports yet...

Oh I've just realised - you're not ill at all, are you? You've just been gagged by the MOD. You never should have tried to type that letter to us yesterday.

I suppose you didn't know about your illness until it had happened, either.

Awww, Eric, what's wrong? It's obviously not flu in the fingers, unless you're typing with your toes.

I make a mean hot whisky (learned in Glasgow, perfected and re-spelled in Belfast).
