Richard Fairbrass
of Right Said Fred (seen here on the left)
has just been speaking to us about his experience being beaten up in Moscow yesterday. It was one of those interviews that took a turn I didn't really expect. You too might be surprised by what happened. We'll play it in the programme tonight.
Gosh, Eddie - Is this the PM version of trailing on Diana photos?
Speaking for myself, I'm now awaiting 5 p.m. with bated breath ......
I do hope he didn't decide to test out his fists on our beloved presenter.

This should be interesting. I've read the reports in both the Grauniad and the Indy...
I'm sorry, but when I hear Richard's group's name, I can't help but think...
"Right," said Fred, "Both of us together
One on each end and steady as we go."
Tried to shift it, couldn't even lift it
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea and...

Me too Mittfh! And that song always makes me think of another ancient classic "Don't Jump off the Roof Dad" Who was that? Was it someone like Tony Hancock? Or am I having a mad fit?
Appy - Tommy Cooper! 1961 apparently, before your time, I'd have thought?
Daddy came home from work tired
His boss had been driving him mad.
The kids were all shouting, the dog bit him too
His dinner was nothing but boiled over stew.
I guess it was then he decided
Up to the rooftop he'd go
He was about to jump off when
The kids started howling below
'Don't jump off the roof, Dad
You'll make a hole in the yard
Mother's just planted petunias
The weeding and seeding was hard
If you must end it all, Dad
Won't you please give us a break
Just take a walk down the park, Dad
And there you can jump in the lake.'
With the mention of petunias, I'm wondering if it'll tempt Wonko over from the Beach??
Valp,
It's more than possible to remember things before your own time, as 'twere. I'm a BIG fan of the Goons, and the last regular show was 8 years before I was born!

Interested to hear RF speaking last night. I think he was spot on in what he said and he proved that "pop stars" can have brains.
Twice malicioused!!
What happened (to RF?); can't listen again as am at work and am too intrigued to wait until I get home!!
PS I meant what happened in the interview, not Moscow, just in case it seemed like I was a complete numptie.
witchiwoman (10&11) - He took a very reasonable stance as regards the promotion of gay rights in countries where they are not really accepted. I was expecting, and I assume that Eddie was, a very belligerent and aggressive attitude and an uncompromising attitude that all rights should be immediately granted.
Instead he took the stance that being overly belligerent wasn鈥檛 fruitful and that everyone should be considerate of the feelings of the populations in countries where homosexuality was frowned on.
I don鈥檛 really know the man but he came across and very fair, insightful and intelligent. I 鈥渢hink鈥 that is pretty much what it was. Somebody else may remember more than me.
Wow! Well done Val -- yes that was well before my time, but I do remember hearing it on the radio. (It also reminds me of the Small Faces' "Lazy Sunday".) I must've heard these on 'Golden Oldies' type shows. I can remember thinking that the children in "Don't Jump..." weren't very nice if they were more worried about the garden than their Dad. I guess I was 'Pre-ironic' then.
Can't think why that one would've been on, mind: my mother hated Tommy Cooper. But she loves his one liners if I don't tell her they're his!...
RJD - thanks
In my excitement I forgot to mention that 'don't jump of the roof' was frequently sung in my house when I was growing up and has been going around in my head since the first mention of Wonks's petunias.
'I don't want to play in your yard' was also a very firm favourite; I've never heard an 'original' version of either!
Appy - I must admit, I g**gled!
WOW!!!
I am referring to the song - don't jump off the roof dad - I have heard this all my life and never knew more than the 'chorus' - and now my children - ages 10 and 11 - have heard my Mum and Dad and myself sing it and are repeating it! but we get lost on some of the words - and have just found this site and now I know. thankyou all so much - its brings back so many memories - and I am a very young 41 year old !!!! but love the old songs and think they should never be forgotton
cheers
Amanda
