Some bloggy

Eddie Mair | 11:33 UK time, Monday, 25 June 2007

problems logging in this morning but they seem to have cleared. Unlike the rain.

I'd like you to pay special attention to what I say tonight. Or at least how I say it. I managed to break a filling while on holiday. This wasn't much of a problem at the time, but as the days have gone on, a jaggy remnant (stop me if this is getting technical) is digging in to the left side of my tongue, making me sound drunk. And I've hardly touched a drop this morning.

So it's off to the dentist at 1300 to see what we can do. If it can't be fixed quickly I will sound drunk on air. Even if it can, I'm a tad worried that recorded interviews during the afternoon will have to be conducted with half my mouth numb.

So apologies in advance for the endless dribbling.

Ouch, Eddie. Hope it gets sorted out without too much pain. My father-in-law hypnotised himself once (he's a doctor) in order to have dental work done without anaesthetic - and it worked.

    Look into my eyes . . . .

    Eddie;
In that case you may as well down half a bottle of Talisker and blame it on the novocaine!

    Si.

Dribbling? I thought you were a rugby man, Eddie.

If the visit to the dentist doesn't work, I'd break into that bottle of brandy. At least you'll be able to blame the tooth when your speech is slurred on air :-)

Hope it didn't spoil your holiday too much.

fingers crossed - I wonder if non-froggers/newletter recepients will notice any difference. I'm sure you will cope manfully! (whatever you were munching on the time I hope it was worth it!)

I've had that "jaggy renmant against the tongue" problem and I do sympathise. But I always pay careful attention to everything you say, so I don't really see how I can up my game this evening, to be frank...

How we all sympathise with mouth related problems.....dribble dribble.....
Sounding drunk is unavoidable ..looking lopsided adds a leer to everything issuing out of the one functioning side of the mouth. But we won't be abe to see that....
I had a gum operation last week to sort out an infection caused by poor dentistry 2 years ago.One for the NHS to contemplate. It only took 18 months of agony and swelling and antibiotics to get an appointment at the hospital. Because I moved to a different area in the waiting time, i went to the bottom of the list again!
This week end I have been unable to eat and look as if Mike Tyson did the operation......bruised ....as well as sounding drunk and leering at everyone...not a pretty
    sight...mirror mirror....
And I will have to have dentures because of this..is there no justice?
Hope you feel better soon, Eddie.

    Eddie -
the other day, my dentist mentioned the best way to accelerate the clearing of the numb gum and thus re-instate coherent speech, is to talk a lot, move the jaw about and do some aerobic exercise, all of which increase blood flow and help disperse the whaterveritis-acaine they use nowadays.
    Worked for me

Oh Eddie - I feel for you my dear. Dentsitry is such a drag. I always recommend nitrous oxide myself (my lovely man insists on calling it "happy air" as if I am still five years old), but for anything more serious a small jab of Midazolam does the trick - mind, you wouldn't be presenting for at least 24 hours AND you need someone to hold your hand on the way home. Hope it goes smoothly and look forward to hearing you lisp at 5.

    Bah, Soft southern wimp.

I found having half a filling missing made cleaning between the teeth so much easier!
(And when it was repaired, no jab was involved either.)
