All manner of
trouble last night getting things on air. Poor Matt had spent the day in Henley, and tried for the whole hour to get ion air but couldn't. We may ask him to post something here about his troubles a bit later.
We had a big editorial pow-wow about our relationship with Government after the programme last night. Perhaps more on that later too.
But the good news is that after a day of trying, a chap called Krish got our computers to work. They had been upgraded the night before, as I told you - but all six at our desk...mine, the editor's and the deputy's were all unable to play audio, which, let me tell you, makes it very hard to do our jobs! Anyway - all is well. Happy birthday Gillian.
are you at liberty to tell us what they were upgraded to? Just so we all won't ;-)
Well, getting ion air can be difficult, I've heard! Only kidding, Eddie & Matt :-) Would be interesting to hear the technical difficulties you had. (I say that as an Engieer and also one who takes it for granted in this day&age that we can hear the news from wherever in the world at a moments' notice).
As for the bigf pow-wow, was this as a result of something in the programme last night? Must admit I missed the first 15 minutes, as it's not worth trying to leave the office dead on 5pm. I think this should be aired either here on the blog or on the programme itself. It might answer the critics who claim that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ (and PM in particular on this blog) is a left-wing, liberal* organisation, bent on the downfall of civilisation as we know it.
* Why do people think that the term "liberal" is a bad thing? It's certainly NOT the same as saying far-left. I would say that we as a country have a liberal culture and identity. We don't want people to be forced to think or believe to a certain religious or political creed. We want people to have the ability to live their lives in their own way (given the basic overall standards we expect of each other). Surely this is the essence of a liberal society...
Hm, I agree with FF. What triggered the discussion and where has it led?
I'm fidgetting to learn more.
FF,
In US conservative circles 'liberal' is almost as bad a name to call someone as, as, .. well, you know.
xx

Thank you Eddie. Knowing your computers are better has made my day ;o)
I hope we'll hear more about your pow-wow......it's not another case of ''Too many chiefs and not enough Indians'' is it? Send us another smoke-signal if you can!

A Republican? That's certainly a dirty word in my house-hold.
Sadly "liberal" has become a synonym for woolly minded, blowing in the wind, politically correct do-gooders.
So much better to be thus than a neo-con imvho.
Wow Gillianian! Personal birthday greetings from the Lord Mair himself! If I wasn't so drunk I'd say something expressive of my envy, but I feel the need to just be quiet in case I behave inappropriately...
Except I just have to mention that David Cameron's horrible shiny face is on my TV just now. What does he polish it with???
Aperitif (8) I have to admit it made me pathetically happy!!!!
Brasso Appy! Bet it is - rubbed all over (post shave) and polished off to a glowing red raw rosy hue! - yuk.
Now Gillian - let me have a go at making you pathetically happy.
Happy Birthday Gillian !
Did it work?
Mmmm - thought not!
As John Humphrys said - Too many celebrities broadcasting these days :-)
Jonnie....but it did the first time you said it. ♥
aw - I think that was really sweet Eddie.
[belated] happy birthday Gillian!
