48,500 plus
is this morning's latest total. Did anyone go to bed?
Sorry to read this morning of the death of Tony Wilson. As a tiny addition to the justified plaudits about his life and career, I can add that he was a great guest! We spoke to him a few times on BH and PM - though thanks to his illness I think the last occasion was a while ago. But always huge fun - insightful, punchy and articulate. We'll miss him.
Now...what will we do IF we get through 50,000 by Friday? We had lots of ideas in the office and a few on the Blog but I took the view that none of them quite hit the mark. We're going to let the thoughts fester for a few days and see what happens. Actually, as I write this, I've had a thought.
In any case - beach anyone?
Some of us went to bed in order to be up bright and early ready to frog. Only 499 or so to go....
We're well on the way, then, Eddie :-) Nice to see you up and about, but surely you can sleep in on the w/e?
So both Eric and Marc are up and about already - will either of them treat us to a "Five Facts" (see The Beach)? If we managed 500 posts within 24hrs, it's quite likely that we could feasibly reach 49,000 by this time tomorrow, and possibly even 49,500 by Monday. In that case, reaching the 50,000 should be possible by midweek...
So how about setting a target of 51,000 by Friday?
mittfh: No, emphatically no! In fact, I think we may need to moderate our output once we get near to the 50K mark and try to make it happen at the magic hour, i.e. 12.22 p.m., or as near to that time as possible.
That will be a REAL challenge!
Sending this from my mobile phone. It is important we all do our bit.
OK eddie (4) but we still have to have one from the train....
Hmm. Perhaps I should change my name to Eddie Mair, then my posts would come through more reliably ....
Are you doing the weekly shop, Eddie?
Eddie is just proving what we've known all along: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Another madman for the asylum. ;o)
I just got a malicious.
My message was something about being surprised the mobile phone entry made it...as I got an error message after that...
This is all pointless Anne!
Isn't it frustrating eddie?? Now you know why we feel so aggrieved...
Well now, there's irony for you. First malicious this morning and it had to be on this thread!
It is frustrating Val!
Really frustrating
Morning all. Don't usually frog at weekends, but thought I'd better do my bit for the cause. We'll need a decent countdown to make sure we hit the 17th. In fact, slowing down the frog rate will be much harder than speeding it up. I do hope PM editors will bear this in mind next week when it comes to deciding items for the programme. We wouldn't want a controversial topic turning up on Wednesday that results in premature celebrations. However, I am on standby for Thursday evening to help with the final push, if it is required.
What was Eddie's first post? Something about having nothing at all to say? How apt it will be to reach 50,000 on our first anniversary with completely pointless postings. Is there a prize for the 50,000th poster?
Malicious? Now, if it had accused me of being pointless, it would have had a point...
Wow...nearly there and I hadn't finshed the Hokey Cokey.....
....just luvin it......se you on the beach
Eddie: what about an audio montage of blog postings, showing how it all developed?
And the song.
Couple of minutes' worth of airtime in the run-up to or instead of the Letters slot on Friday ... sounds do-able to me.
Fifi
If we reach it, Eddie? As you see, we froggers just know it will be WHEN.
Hey , welcome to non-studio, non-train frogging!
Hello, everyone else. Off to the beach. Now where's that other flip-flop?
Rachel G (14) - The first post by Eddie is here. It is a very long thread, so it may take a moment or two to load.
How many now?
Are we nearly there yet?
Fifi
Well, there's certainly some selectivity going on here! I know of at least two posts made during the morning which, while allowed through, haven't appeared ......... But, then, my name isn't Eddie Mair.
Ffi (17)
....magic idea gal.......you bin takin brain pills again?
......Eddie......she has my vote!
Heading out to that place called Studland!
It's the real beach - envious anyone?
Big Sis (20)
re......... But, then, my name isn't Eddie Mair.
yer right.......its Big Sister....you need some of them brain pills wot Fifi uses......(see other thread)
Jonnie: Won't you feel out of place? ;o)
Enjoy your afternoon! Who knows, perhaps Eddie's headed for the beach, too.
jonnie - Jealous? No way - the beaches over here are much superior!
Just been informed tonight's dinner is to be a barbie ... think I might sneak along the guitar, just in case things turn tipsy.
I've brought Pimms, to supplement the wine we're taking ... anyone care to sample it before we go? There is ginger ale chilling to go with it...
Fifi
Hm. No postings from Eddie for some time. So he leaves it all to us, does he?
I think I'm due a bit of time off, so will catch up with everybody later on.

RJD (19) I knew Day One had got a bit screwed up, but I've just noticed that post (8) from Steve on 17 August refers to Mrs Trellis at (151). Indeed s/he was there but dated 26th October after the beach had come into existence. Weird or what?
No, I said 'weird', not 'malicious'.
M'off to the gazebo to read some Margaret Atwood and drink some surprisingly good 0% alcohol non-beer I found in Tesburyson's.
Tra-la-laaaaaaaaaaaa!
Fifi
How're we doing?

Paper - Stone - Scissors .....
Paper - Stone - Scissors .....
Slowed down quite a bit today - I blame it on the weather. Dare I announce, for the umpteenth time this summer, today it is mostly grey and drizzly here in East Lothian, and the farmers are mad. Next door started bringing hay in (or something like that) yesterday, only for completely unforecast rain to appear out of thin air. (Hey I like that!)
Anne P(29) - The ref to Mrs Trellis at 151 is probably correct. At some point a great wodge of the early posts on Day One disppeared and the posts were renumbered. The final total on the thread was well over 1000 when it finished being the first Beach but the final post is somewhere in the 800's.
Big Sister - I've just got a copy of Basic Instinct 2. Is there a variation of your game?
Sharon - Stone - Scissors . . . .?
Ah, RJD obviously you haven't heard of the ISIHAC version of the game:
Cat Glass Pudding
(as in Cat can break Glass, Glass ruins Pudding, and Puding drowns Cat!)
RJD, I thought that was Basic Instinct 1. She didn't do it again, did she? I hope she doesn't get run over by a bus.
Ginger beer, please, it's muggy here and that cool bite would be just right.
Hey! There's a strapline. PM: as cool and biting as ginger beer.
Whaddya think?
Nah, I'll just sell it to the next Dracula remake.
RJD (35) you're probably right, I knew we'd lost some, but if so then the dates on some of the remaining posts must be wrong. Not that it really matters, just a shame (speaking as a former historian) to have lost an accurate record.
Frances O (38) - Yes, she did it again apparently.
Anne P (39) - But surely there is a an accurate record on Jonnie's PMBlog site - Blog History and then Anne on Day One. I always assumed that it was you that was responsible for that!
Scissors - Stone -Sharon
Hm. Rather a lot of 's's there, RJD.
Okay, I'll try another one
Scissors - Rock - Hudson
Big Sis - Given the choice I'd rather be Sharoned that Rocked!
I'm sure you would, RJD - and I wouldn't want to be Rocked, but nor would I want to be Stoned.
Okay, so here's one for me:
Scissors - Bean - Sean
Ah, that feels nice!
Stoned Scissor Sister-paper
Big Sis - What about Scissors - Penn - Sean?
I bought one of his films today.
Who'd want to throw a Penn around? Too sharp, Mr. RJD
Secateurs - Titmarsh - Dimmock
Just doing my bit for the war effort. Stockpiling comment supplies in case they are needed for the final big push towards Friday.
Been busy with 2 weddings today. Feel a bit jet-lagged.
Found myself proselytizing (is that the word?) the blog today to the father of the bride. Never lose an opportunity, that's my motto. He was worried about some of his children playing on Facebook till the early hours of the morning, & we agreed that it seemed a rather pointless exercise. (Sorry Jonnie, yes I know you've got a garden, a donkey & lots of coins, and that's really lovely for you...).
I think I persuaded him that this blog is a much more sensible, grown-up affair, and that he should really take a look. Mind you, now I'm catching up with this thread, I realise I may have inadvertently misled him a little...
I'm not sure I like it here anymore :-(
What's up, Appy?
I'm not being malicious!
Sorry Fearless (48), Was feeling a bit sorry for myself last night (difficult time of year for me). Not having frogged much for a few days, I came back and got a bit focussed on the negative stuff on some other threads. I should've read this one properly though -- I have just done so and particularly enjoyed
Cat Glass Pudding (as in Cat can break Glass, Glass ruins Pudding, and Puding drowns Cat!)
:-)
Thanks for asking.
A, x.
Appy? Wassup?
Oh look, now I look as if I can't read! Your 50 wasn't there when I posted my 51 Ap, this is SO like the olden days when we expected everything to be instantaneous and smoothgoing in the posting dept, and were swiftly disillusioned. Ah but what would we have to complain about, else?
Thinks - if I could claim back all the lost minutes spent in contemplation of that little blue line dragging itself kicking and screaming along the foot of my pc screen, then what would/should I do with them?
Discuss/suggest. Answers on a Pointless Post please.
Appy, have a big old fashioned froggy (((((frug))))) from Fifi, and I know other froggers will help out too.
There has been rather a stiffening of some attitudes expressed on other threads lately -- verging on troll-like behaviour -- but one can always avoid those while there's a Beach, if it's a fragile time of year for you.
We have come back with loads of Pimms and ginger beer left over from last night (typically, I was the only one minded to partake!) so we might as well split it between us, before we start on the champagne.
Whaddya say, Aps?
;o)))
Fifi xx
My other (work) computer is doing a download (whatever that means) so, here's another comment towards the 50k while I'm waiting for it to finish.
If anyone has photos of tonights meteors, can I have a copy. We've got cloud and rain so, bright lights in the sky are probably not going to happen.
Happy gazing if you are.
Sequin - Jock - Sykes ....
Ap - Hello Grumpy! Which of the seven dwarves have you not been then?
Grauniad - Sawyer - Jagger ....
Sent this from Mexico. I wonder if it arrived?
Ah, whisky-joe (59) nice to see you keeping up the tradition of froggers frogging from foreign fields :)
What would the gestures be for cavalry - infantry - mechanised?
Sorry folks - lunch hour not long enough to work out what is happenning, but here is my today's contribution to the 50K
Back tomorrow
Good luck all
T
Appeal for your help, froggers!
I am working on an anniversary project (among other things I'm a publisher) for the PM Blog.
Please, those of you who love the Frog, and who know Fifi enough to trust me, can you please send an email via the weblink attached to my name above, and I'll tell you more!
No obligation, and your privacy (as always) is guaranteed.
Look forward to hearing from you ... including lots who have dropped off the radar.
;o) Fifi
I posted here - where is it?
Have you looked down the back of the sofa, RJD?
Fifi ;o)
Nah - I know what's down there!
RJD - Are you losing the thread?!!! he he!!! n-n
879 bottles to go.....!!
n-n - Lost it a long time ago!
