I'm sorry to keep going on about this but what on earth is the point of twitter. I clicked on it to find out what car Eddie's on about, and all I get is the same statement, but bigger, with a tiny pic of the Tardis.

Excuse general tone of discontent with technoworld in general, but I'm totally unable to access the editing platform we use and we have these deadlines you see.......I've done all the unplugging and the rebooting and the waiting for 10 minutes etc etc, but I just can't access the webpage. Any other website, yes, pbwiki, no.

    Grrrrrrrr

Vyle (8) Gibbet in the sky - didn't someone write a song about that?

Jonnie (9) I'm not going mad...honest! Last week (and the week before) I was in a gorgeous wood-pannelled 1920's house overlooking Port Gaverne where FM reception requires a stonking aerial and with no computer. This week I've moved up the hill to a 1960's bungalow with a view & wifi! Just packing to return to the frozen north this evening :-(

DI Wyman aka Maris Piper (10) and Eddie (avoiding the potato across the road):

One night, the Potato family sat down to dinner. Mother Potato, Father Potato, and their three daughters. Midway through the meal, the eldest daughter spoke up. "Mother Potato?" she said. "I have an announcement to make".

"And what might that be?" said Mother, seeing the obvious excitement in her eldest daughter's eyes.

"Well," replied the daughter, with a proud but sheepish grin, "I'm getting married!"

The other daughters squealed with surprise as Mother Potato exclaimed, "Married!... That's wonderful! And who are you marrying, Eldest daughter?"

"I'm marrying a Jersey Royal!" .... "A Jersey Royal!" replied Mother Potato with pride. "Oh, a Jersey Royal is a fine tater, a fine tater indeed!"

As the family shared in the eldest daughter's joy, the middle daughter spoke up. "Mother, I too, have an announcement."

"And what might that be?" asked Mother Potato, said with conviction.

    "I, too, am getting married!"

"And who are you marrying, Middle Daughter?"

"I'm marrying a King Edward," ……. "A King Edward!" said Mother Potato with joy. "Oh, a King Edward is a lovely posh tater, a fine tater indeed!"

Once again, the room came alive with laughter and excited plans for the future, when the youngest Potato daughter interrupted. "Mother Potato?...Umm, I, too, have an announcement to make."

"Yes?" said Mother Potato with great anticipation.

"Well," began the youngest Potato daughter with the same sheepish grin as her eldest sister before her, "I hope this doesn't come as a shock to you, but I am getting married, as well!"

"Really?" said Mother Potato with sincere excitement..."All of my lovely daughters married! What wonderful news! And who, pray tell, are you marrying, youngest Daughter?"

    "I'm marrying Des Lynam!"

"Des Lynam?!".. Mother Potato scowls, "But he's just a common tater!"

A guy on holiday is walking along a beach in France. There are many beautiful women lying in the sun, and he really wants to meet one. But try as he might, the women don't seem to be at all interested. Finally, as a last resort, he walks up to a French guy lying on the beach who is surrounded by adoring women.

"Excuse me," he says, taking the guy aside, "but I've been trying to meet one of those women for about an hour now, and I just can't seem to get anywhere with them. You're French. You know these women. What do they want?"

"Maybe I can help a leetle beet," says the Frenchman. "What you do ees you go to zee store. You buy a leetle bikini sweeming suit. You walk up and down zee beach. You meet girl very qweekly zees way."

"Wow! Thanks!" says the redneck, and off he goes to the store. He buys a skimpy red bathing suit, puts it on, and goes back to the beach. He parades up and down the beach but still has no luck with the ladies.

So he goes back to the Frenchman. "I'm sorry to bother you again," he says, "but I went to the store, I got a swimsuit, and I still haven't been able to meet a girl."

"Okay," says the Frenchman, "I tell you what you do. You go to zee store. You buy potato. You put potato in sweeming suit and walk up and down zee beach. You will meet girl very, very qweekly zees way."

"Thanks!" says the guy, and runs off to the store. He buys the potato, puts it in the swimsuit, and marches up and down the beach. Up and down, up and down he walks, but the women will hardly even look at him. After half an hour he can't take it anymore and goes back to the Frenchman.

"Look," he says, "I got the suit, I put the potato in it, and I walked up and down the beach-- and still nothing! What more can I do?"

"Well," says the Frenchman, "maybe I can help you a leetle beet. Why don't you try moving zee potato to the FRONT of zee sweeming suit?"

Bad mods! Comments made and accepted don't appear for three and four hours? For shame!

When they do finally trickle in they are then put up in the chronological order of posting, too, which plays havoc with anyone's subsequent posts that refer to the number of a post to which they're answering.

(I'm waiting for something I put up and had accepted some time ago on another thread, to make its appearance there. I am waiting *crossly*.)
