Summer Sounds
Will be a new category on the list on the right. There you'll be able to hear the history of the item - including, shortly, the piece we ran on the programme last night. I also hope that once we're up and running, there will be a list of all the sounds we've had.
As I hinted last night, we may well use sounds sent to us by listeners. Please don't send us any yet. Details of what we are looking for and in what form will follow before the end of the week.
The one thing that feels a bit ominous about this particular lark is that it reminds me of those compilation cds with recordings by the Beach Boys, Kinks, et al, thrown together by excuse rather than artistic merit .....
Actually, I love the Beach Boys and the Kinks, so it's not really a problem for me. Just as long as we don't get bogged down in B-list stuff.
By the way, Eddie, which particular slimeball were you watching this morning?
the froggers' song. of course!
Aye!

I think this was mentioned somewhere else but please no seagulls!
Well, the sound of rain is certainly one we can use this year!
Oh dear. Sorry Big Sis (1), but I find the Beach Boys' music very depressing.
To be honest, I can think of only one sound that I hear exclusively in the summer: The sound of tyres on hot tarmac. Am I a bit odd?
Let's be sarcastic:
A road drill
Beeping horns (aka impatient drivers in a traffic jam)
Emergency services siren
Drunken blokes letting everyone within a 100 yard radius know their feelings on the recently finished international football match
A child's voice whining: "Are we nearly there yet?"
A typically tacky bit of bubblegum pop music, the kind where the CD is destined to double up as a coaster within the next 2 days.
A Great White Shark eating lunch (for the benefit of tabloid readers)
Thunder
Speaking of which, and more in keeping with the theme:
Extract from a seasonal Vivaldi violin concerto...
But please, not the "acoustic-techno" version one artist released a few years ago.
We have to have the original cricket music - I spent hours in the car as a child on the way too and from the Isle of Wight and Manchester listening to Jonners whittering away - actually some of his funny bits would be good too! A bit of a slap on the willow always prompts pimms o'clock.
