Is it that time already?
I completely missed last night's programme with top Fi-Glover-Impersonator Paddy O'Connell.
What did I miss?
At a guess: Greek fires, Prescott resigns, Princess of Wales stays in to wash her hair...
I heard about two thirds on my way back from work. Really enjoyed Paddy's gentle humour & thought it flowed well. I agree with the listener who called in about the interview with Rhys Jones' parents though - the interviewer (?who) seemed just to be asking questions which were designed to make them break down in tears.
Just a point of order;
A anon Text msg from a Listener was read out
Should not it be a matter of policy that any anon
msg should be disregarded ?
By making it clear that such a agenda would always be followed a clear line of responsibilty would be ensured.
For reasons about which I shall not bore you dear readers I listned to the majority of Monday's programme and thought Mr. O'Connell got the presentation and tone right in every aspect. Lots of different stories to handle in different ways.Well done that man.
Now lets see your picture adorne the right hand side of the page in a formal welcome and addition to the PM team.
Don't forget to give Peter the box of shortbread, Eddie, as his reward for withholding the Blog password.
Poor Paddy. Eddified yet again.
Peter,
As a rule we would not use an anoymous texter but I sort of felt it was a decent charge to lay against us. It was my call to run the interview and the producer, Laura, edited it very skillfully. I was torn between finding it compelling and admiring the parents interigrity, and feeling uncomfortable and intrusive. I went with running it at decent length because it was such a powerful listen.
We discussed it in the glassbox afterwards, especially in the light of the current argument that modern news culture is too much about provoking emotional responses than informing and holding to account.

I am off to find my password now.......
Peter, I don't see your line of reasoning. Surely there is no harm in the person who sent in the text message remaining anonymous.
I would expect that a reasonable percentage of these blog comments are largelu anonymous as it happens!
Absolutely right, Jonnie (7)!
I couldn't agree more, Andy
I think anonymous(7) may have a valid point!
On Friday I sent a text on behalf of my wife anonymously by mistake. So I then sent the same one again, adding her name.
Point is, sender may have just forgotten to add name. Most texts arrive from recognised numbers, and one doesn't need to st8 one's name when sending.
Anyway, I didn't hear it read out so dunno if it was the one.
Well I have said it before - the phrase 'how do you feel about xyz? should be banished from any reporters lips when interviewing parents about murdered children or indeed people with murdered partners. Peter R and I had an exchange of e-mails in similar vein over the wife of the British soldier bombed to death by our Yankee allies who then refused to release video footage to the inquest to be used as evidence.
The worst offender I ever came across was someone from Yorkshire TV who asked an asian mother who had less than complete command of English anyway 'How did you feel when you were told that your daughter was strangled with her own scarf?. (Sorry, I forget the proper name but it's the scarf like thing that is worn round the neck with those tunics and trousers many asian women wear.)
What is the response the reporter expects in these situartions? Can there actually be any doubt about how these bereaved parents and partners are feeling? Close family and friends can ask 'how are you feeling' in private, because apart from anything else they probably care about the answer. Journalists shouldn't.
Obviously I feel very strongly about this, sorry if I've gone on a bit long.
peter (6). Re Passwords.
I presume System and Admin didn't work
Or for that matter eddie and mair1...
Oh, Stewart, you know it was probably "password". Or Kate O'Mara.

oohhh eeerrrr matron
HORNE: Can you help me? I've erred.
SANDY: Well, we've all erred, ducky. I mean, it's common knowledge, ennit, Ju1e?
HORNE: Will you take my case?
JULIAN: Well, it depends on what it is. We've got a criminal practice that takes up most of our time.
HORNE: Yes, but apart from that - I need lega1 advice.
SANDY: Ooh - isn't he bold? Time has not withered nor custom staled his infinite variety
JULIAN: What is it you've done?
HORNE: (shyly) I don't like to say.
JULIAN: Oh, you can tell us. Sand and me have handled the most bizarre briefs - nothing could shock us.
HORNE: Well - look, it's here on this charge sheet.
SANDY: Let's have a vada. Oh Jule, look at this!
JULIAN: Ooh! He didn't!
SANDY: He did. Look, it's written down.
JULIAN: But I mean - in broad daylight - outside the Corner House - aren't you ashamed?
HORNE: Yes - but it is on1y a parking offence.
SANDY: Only! They're very hot on that. What do you think, Jule?
JULIAN: Hmm - let me look up me tort.
SANDY: Shh - he's looking up his tort. Sometimes it takes him hours to find what he's looking for. Ah, he's found it. Well?
JULIAN: I recommend we try Per verulium ad camphorum actus injuria linctus est.
SANDY: That's your actual Latin.
HORNE: What does it mean?
JULIAN: I dunno - I got it off a bottle of horse rub, but it sounds good, doesn't it? How shall we tackle it, Sand?
SANDY: I think we should plead insanity.
JULIAN: Yes, but what about Mr. Horne?
SANDY: Oh, him. I'll defend him. I'll do me speech for the defence. Would you 1ike to hear it?
JULIAN: Go on, do your plea, Sand. Oh, he's an eloquent pleader.
SANDY: Omes and palones of the jury, vada well the eek of the poor ome who stands before you, his lallies trembling. He has his share of guilt, but who is without it? We all have a bit - every one of us. We have our share. His on1y crime was that he loved not wisely but not too well. This kid never had a chance - born on the wrong side of the tracks, forced to take in washing - society drove him to a life of vice. It is not this ome who is on trial - it is all of us. We made him what he is - without hope, without love, without hair. Give him a chance to become a useful citizen again - a housewife and a mother, so that he can look the world in the face and say, `I name this ship HMS Ark Royal. God bless all who sail in her!'
JULIAN: Bravo, Sand! You could have been a Queen's Counsel. Well, Mr. Horne- what do you say?
HORNE: Have you got Quintin Hogg's phone number?

Annie (12) - It is of lesser significance, but I remember the 大象传媒 reporter who asked this of tennis player Anna Kournikova, 鈥淵ou lost today, how do you feel about that?鈥 Stupid question, she was annoyed, things deteriorated from there. He still works for the 大象传媒, and I still think he鈥檚 not up to the job.
