The Beach
What is the Beach?
It鈥檚 a place to go when the stresses of your real life need relieving. Sometimes it is fairly quiet and you might feel like you鈥檙e the only one around, but you can leave your 鈥榝ootprints鈥 for others to find later on. Othertimes it is the home for a real party, with constant gossip, leg-pulling, rumour, innuendo, chit-chat and weirdness.
If this were a forum (and it sort of is because we post responses to each other, not just to Eddie, hence our term for ourselves 'Froggers', a combination of forum and blogger) then the beach would be the off-topic area.
It's a tropical location, no matter the time of year it's always warm and pleasant there.
Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, the evenings balmy. It has a number of different locations; the Nick Clarke waterfront bar; the smokers corner; Fido's Run for the dog-walkers; the Naughty Step and many others.
How do you find your way around? There is no direct answer to the question.
The beach is a moveable feast, literally. It will be renewed by our Lord and master Mr. Edward de Mair each Friday morning. This is because we have found in the past that when the number of posts exceeds about 600 the entire thing becomes unwieldy and unstable. A case of the beach turning to quicksand.
Froggers often leave bottles / glasses / trays of their favourite tipple on the bar for others to sample, not to mention big / small eats.
There is a herd of camels who frequent the sands, which froggers are very fond of. There are sun-loungers, so you can take it easy and catch some rays. Quite often the late-night attendees will have a barbie.
It's a fun place, with only one real rule; Be nice to each other; we are ALL chums here. New Froggers are ALWAYS welcome.
The real debate happens on the other threads. The beach is a place for banter, whimsy, relaxation and friendship, where jarring comments are not particularly welcome. There are certain very mild protocols, which you tend to pick up as you go along. So slip your shoes off, feel the sand between your toes, relax and enjoy yourself.

My, it's nice to be first onto the beach this morning!

Lovely clean sand, better tidy up the bar to match.
I've made some fresh English Breakfast and there's Java or Blue Mountain for the coffee drinkers.

Right, I'm feeling rather pleased with myself for having been for a jog around the island already, so I'm making breakfasts for those that want it. All orders should be in by 10:30am to be sure of being made....
Well, there's a thing! A raft on the beach just down from the NC bar. I wonder where that came from?

Anne P (2) Sadly, no. It's a school ''do'', as part of their Anniverary celebrations, so it was always going to be a ''closed shop'' anyway. It's my own fault for not looking at the Beeb website more often....I actually know someone who works at the school, so I may have had a chance of a ticket, if I'd realised! To add to my misery, I've also recently found out that I've missed ISIHAC

We - that's me,Jenny my wife, our four grown up (dubious accuracy of terminology there) children and two dogs - are off to Dent in the Yorkshire Dales tomorrow.
Not sure if the beach is anywhere near Dent but, if anyone out there knows the Dent area and can recommend good places to eat/drink/explore etc. the Myers family would be ever so grateful.
If I remember to pack the camera and remember to use it I'll send in some pics.

Know what? I absolutely love fish finger sandwiches. The bread has to be white and very fresh. Then you break the fish fingers up a little while they melt the butter and you add a little vinegar and tomato ketchup. Lovely jubbly.

Gordon (17), it's a few years since I was last up there, but so far as eating is concerned I would recommend the Moorcock Inn at Garsdale Head (few miles to the north of Dent Station).
For walking, you may like to use the train for travel south, and then walk back, either over Whernside if good weather, or keeping to the lower levels if poor. If you choose to walk the green lane around High Pike (south of Dent village), watch out for the peat bogs in the middle of the track 鈥 they are very deep.

Appy (15) - Either would be valid, although I always think of it as peej as in peege ! I used to sign on here under my real name and then thought that looked stupid beside every one else's moniker. I sort of felt titullarly underdressed if you'll pardon the expression. I suppose I should have put a bit more thought into it and called myself, The Shadow, or something enigmatic, but its a bit late now!
BW (21) that's the nearest I've ever got to being surrounded by an air of mystery. Seems a shame to dispel it but I have never been our Man in Washington nor am I related to a former Prime Minister (though I am a descendant of Lord Nelson - scurvy pirates look out)

Gordon, Years since I've been to dent. Last time was a stag night! I think there are two pubs. (found out a girl friend of my wife had a hen do in dent so its not that strange)
Walking over Blea moor back to ribblehead then getting train back quite nice. If you start at dent station then its steep to start with. Remember its about 5 miles from Dent to Dent station!
Yordas cave on Kingsdale is nice if you like caves. Its possible to get into the first chamber as a hiker. And for the potholers, I believe you can explore further.
Kirby Lonsdale nice town for lunch.

What a hectic few weeks. Just managed to finish the cottage project before eezee jetting off to Portugal for a break with the wee man and his bucket and spade. Got back on Monday to much cooler weather and 2 trips South of the Border since Tuesday. Just gonna chill in the shade for a while..

Gordon Myers: You simply cannot leave out Ravenstonedale and The Black Swan (which, naturally, serves your favourite beer), along with (if you're lucky) glimpses of red squirrels. A lovely little town! Then take the road down to Sedbergh and stop on your way at Cautley and the Cross Keys, where you can walk across to Cautley Spout. Sedbergh is also very intersting and has more to offer by way of shops, etc., than Ravenstonedale. But Ravenstonedale is the lovelier - and nearer to Dent.
I discovered last year that some of my roots lie in that neck of the woods, and I was absolutely chuffed. It must be one of the loveliest areas in the British Isles.

Well here I am making a brief visit at the end of my first week back at work after nearly 4 months off (boo!). Still its only a 3 month contract and its quite interesting work. I did e-mail a couple of pics from our trip but sadly they did not make it on to the blog (boo again!). They were off on of my favourit places that we visited - the Dune de Pyla, which is the highest (and I think) longest sand dune in Europe (Atlantic coast - not too far from Bordeaux). Its a bit of a climb to the top but the views are just breathtaking, and if you dont fancy the stairs going down you can always do what my 5 year old did and roll down! Has anyone been? If not I can recommend it highly.
Anyway I have a question...........Now before I ask it may I please excuse myself, I am not a financial person and am certainly not an economist (as I think will become blindingly obvious in my next sentence!), but this has troubled me for a long time. Take Northern Rock for example, if the bank went under and people lost their savings why can the Government not ask the royal mint to print some extra money to replace what has been lost by everyone??!!! Ok, I did warn you.....

Just about to start the final list making and as I reckon it's 5 o'clock somewhere a bottle of red has been opened, folding chair unfolded and placed on the beach to watch the very pleasant afternoon sun.

My guide to punctuation: if it helps make what you read/write more understandable (and it's understandable in itself), then use it.

I agree that Dune de Pyla is very impressive. There were also some shallow natural lakes used for bathing nearby (as well as a beach!).
As for your money question....the bank keeps all your money as banknotes/coins in a little safe marked with your name, and periodically they go around adding a little more to each safe ("interest"). When the bank crashes, all those safes are blown to pieces, and all the notes fly away in the wind.*

Hillman Hunter (49) - I have actually done what you suggested in the past - OK, it was over the telephone broadcast system, but I'm sure that counts.
Best reaction was at about 4 o'clock on a blazing hot Friday afternoon (not this summer of course) when I just couldn't be bothered staying in the place any longer. I broadcast "To celebrate the 534th anniversary of the birth of someone famous this office will close in one minute. Anybody still on the premises in 60 seconds will be locked in for the weekend." I think the place cleared in 30.
Frances i-whizzy @48, speakin' as a medievalist I *love* punctuation! Anyone who has to read stuff written without it loves punctuation! It's one of the best inventions ever made for literacy, that's what it is.
Anyone who doubts this can be given zillions and zillions of examples to show that missing out a comma can turn a sentence round to mean something quite different, so I shan't bother.
I like emoticons too, in the right place, which is here and places like it. :-) They look pretty silly in an academic paper, though.

I'm not sure if I remember myself, but howdy do di to all in any event.
Rather than trying to catch up, I thought I'd just dive straight over the dunes and down onto today's beach, but it's amazing how much I don't understand :o( (I don't care, I like them, and I like punctuation too, where would we be without it?)
Bit of a cheek to be awol for so long then come seeking frugs, but if there are any floating around in the ether, then I'll have my frug net out tomorrow night to try and catch a few. Taking TD to move into Halls tomorrow, and I feel blue. Delighted for her, opportunities, beginning of the rest of her life etc, etc. But....somehow I feel that it's the beginning of the end of something for me. How selfish I hear you cry, or is that the little voice in my head?
Anyway, for the moment, I must go and try to persuade her to take a few dozen more pairs of shoes and belts out of the pile that she's hoping will fit in the car in the morning. I tried suggesting that she imagined she had to get there by plane, and pack accordingly. I think 'withering look' is probably the best description of the answer I got :o)

Val P - Snap! You wouldn't believe the stuff that we have had to ship to daughter No. 2 who has just started at Uni. Older, wiser Daughter No.1 is entering her final year at Liverpool, and will travel tomorrow with about 1/3 as much stuff. Going to be very odd being "childless" for the first time in 20+ years!

That makes him sound heartless, that's not at all what I meant, it's just that men are better, perhaps, at trying to make a joke out of these things. He'll miss her every bit as much as I shall.
It is going to be weird though, very weird. You know what got to me tonight, when I had to drive to the nearest shop (3 miles) for something we'd forgotten we needed to make the Last Supper (Dad's Curry)? I thought, there could be days on end when I'm not required to take the car out at all, because no little person is going to need delivered somewhere or collected from the bus etc, etc. Instead of thinking, wow, lower petrol bills, improved carbon footprint, I thought "Wa-ah, I'm not needed any more!". I know, pathetic, I'll get used to it, I'm just a Cancerian, I don't like change especially around the home :o}

Oh Val - I'm thinking of you! Mpb has just gone into double figures, & we were just reminiscing back to before 10 years ago when it was just us & the cats. The cat used to be bigger than her! Now it's her, & just one cat, but she's definitely bigger than him.
I hope you don't find the house too empty. Fill it with music, & luxuriate in that absence of the "Have you seen...? " or "Where's my...?" or "I need a ..." type conversations. Also the no-doubt considerably-smaller piles of washing & ironing!

Not fun, not at all, but the old "these things too will pass" helped get me through the first two, and I hope it'll get me through the last one in a week or so. And guess what? The eldest is actually *glad to see me* when he comes home for a day or so, now! No more rows about dirty gymshoes on the stairs to sour the relationship.... :-) The second is about a thousand miles away for a few years, now, but I bet when she turns up for the weekend with fifteen washer-loads of dirty clothes she too will be my Fwend. The third is planniing to abscond with my bicycle, so she too is sure too come back...
(And then the phone rang and was daughter #1 on a mobile at about 50p for ten seconds. They *do* stay one's children!)

It happened to me!. I trotted off at 16 and a bit to be an apprentice at the RAF's No.1 Radio School at RAF Locking in the early seventies.
When I went home on my first leave all dolled up in my uniform ( we were not allowed to wear civies! ) only to find Ma, Pa et al had moved.
I did find where they had gone to, just across town, but it was my fathers idea of testing me!
He was ex Nat Service SAS squaddie & a Coal miner and he told mother that it would see if I had learnt anything!
Sure did.....Dad was complete a*sehole!
Well, I'm no where near having Daughters leaving home. 7 and 4 next week. Youngest is proud she is three but making sure we all know she will be 4 next week. Love DIY's, my parents moved and didn't tell me story. My eldest is just had her stabilisers taken off her bike and not quite confident yet so we have spent about an hour this afternoon with tantrums. She is only 7 I hate to think what'll happen when puberty hits! Can someone reassure me?

SO and I climbed up the Dune du Pyla back in June on a blazing hot day. Being cheapskates we used the undocumented 'back door' to avoid the fees. So we had to climb it from the north side on loose sand.
Never again.
The view was splendiferous though, well worth the non-existent entry fee.

Aunt Dahlia - I told both daughters at farewell/family dinner out before they left, that I had already rented their rooms out. When pressed, I told them that it was to two Thai students. Daughter No.2 responded: "Well, make sure that they are are not Shemales." I have no idea where they get it from - must be from their mother!
ValP and RJD - my eldest decided to go to university near home and not move into halls. I encouraged her to think about living away, but it was a very half-hearted encouragement. I'm glad I've got her for a year or two yet. My heart goes out to you.

Back to work, yes, I know, I blundered earlier today, and it's a strict deadline...

As the mother of a newly 10 yr old, I can only reassure you that yours won't have stopped the tantrums once they can ride a bike. There's always something new to rage about! The emotional exhaustion from a rampaging daughter is something no-one mentions in the maternity unit... How girls these days can manage to be such drama queens for so much of the time is just beyond me. I mean, where do they get the energy from?
Trouble is, with so much drama constantly around, one tends to get rather blase, & always say "Yes, well, I'm sure it will all work out/ get better/ stop hurting/ etc, soon" without actually bothering to investigate too deeply.
As a result of my slackness, it was a week before I realised she really did have a big abscess under a tooth, & now there has to be an extraction on Monday.(Luckily it's a baby tooth, & wobbly already) Even more drama, & very possibly my fault too.
Don't say you weren't warned!

Annasee, I am glad its not just us who have drama queen daughters. And youngest had a green stick fracture earlier this year, we took two days to realise! So I can understand the abcess being missed. What bad parents we all are ;-)
I've been up since 7.30, rudley awakened by youngest shouting. So we (two of us) have been up watching Muzzy (other childrens language courses avaiable). I've done one 8 cup expresso pot to myself already and thinking about number two. I think I'll share that with the good lady but she is still fast asleep.

Peej - Daughter No.2 is really only half-away. Belfast during the week and back to North Coast at weekends. But I expect that to change as the attractions are discovered.

NN: Merrydown (which used to produce lovely coutnry wines, in addition to their cider) still exists in name, but no longer in the original form, being now part of one of the major players in the drinks industry.
As it happens I bought some Merrydown cider (for old times' sake) a couple of weeks ago from Mr. Morrison's emporium, but found it very uninteresting and even somewhat unpalatable. Ah, how times have changed!
well seeing as i can't work until my UK office opens (and sorts all my technical woes)... don't mind if I do, DIY. mmm. there's nothing quite like a good cup of coffee to start the week.
all i can add is yoghurt and fresh raspberries, though the rasps are quite good.

after my long struggle with "the office" i've finally finished work and am in dire need of R&R.
i'm thinking about setting up a projector for a Heroes marathon if anyone's interested (I think I've missed a few and apparently we're only half-way through the series).

Interview was great fun but, having thought about what the role ACTUALLY is, as opposed to the role that was advertised, I may have to withdraw. But have had good news about teaching yoga at a local college - may look as if I can start after half term (depending on funding) if not it will definitely happen in the next academic year. And the teacher I've been talking to is school sports co-ordinator so may be able to introduce me to some primary schools too. Sometimes life is just great isn't it?

My suggestion for a game for Room 502 days (posted earlier on the Glass Box)
(I'm not a Harry Potter fan but ....) At Hogwarts, they play quidditch, I believe, and I think it may be time to invent a fictional game for the Blog for those 502/409 days.
We could base it around those magic numbers, and also around probabilities for getting through. I'm thinking something along the lines of:
Getting a 502 message = 1 point
Getting a 409 message = 2 points
Getting 502 x 502 messages = 1 million points
Getting 409 x 409 messages = 2 million points
Getting a posting through on a 502 day = 10 points
No score for getting through after a 409 message as these are more random.
Participants can then *try* to post their scores up on the Beach that evening. If they are able to get through the 502 barrier, they will automatically be awarded a further 100 points.
Do other froggers have similar ideas to make Room 502 more bearable?
fifi, i dont call into cranlsey cam often, partly due to one pc not showing the streaming video and the owrk one not doing sound. But its only been me there the last few times I have done. So its in and out and back to work.

You know what? I think the person who suggested that the blog issues might be related to the appearance of moving pictures recently may be right. It does seem that since the first video addition, everything has gone a bit pear-shaped. Eddie, I think we can survive without the videos if it means the blog getting back to whatever is classed as normal :)
Resolving 502 errors.
Use of proxies and caching is increasing on the Web. Our CheckUpDown robot will always try to 'drill through' to the real computer that actually hosts your site, but we do not have complete control over where our HTTP request actually ends up.
Anyhoo, if only one link in the chain of computers dealing with our HTTP request is broken, then an error such as 502 can easily occur.
Please contact me (email preferred) whenever you encounter 502 errors - there is nothing you can do to sort them out. I or Sequin will have to liaise with your ISP and the vendor of your Web server software so that they can review the flow of IP data traffic between various computers under their control. Is that clear? See you on the ice.

To make a comment - providing you don't have a static IP adress - just disconnect the router, and reboot it or turn the pc on and off if you have a USB modem- to renew your dynamic IP and no problems

Heroes watching session up to the end of season 1, I can come back to the beach bearing a supply os croissants, pastires, and I'm setting up the range for cooked breakfasts for all. But, as I can't access it while I'm at work (they've blocked it) I'll probably just have to continue persevering with the beach :/

Thanks go to anyone who tried to suggest helpful ways around this comms difficulty, but if life is too short to stuff a mushroom it is *definitely* too short to turn routers off and on, go to other sites, and otherwise put a lot of effort into anything else. The Beach is at least no more faff than usual (apart from any 502s and other kerfuffles this post may have).

Morning all, looks like I picked a good week to be away from the blog. Sorry it seems to have been so sick.
In the hopes this will get through OK, I have just placed some lovely freshly made french coffee and croissants on the bar with some English Breakfast, toast and marmalade for those of a less Gallic persuasion.

I blame it all on the problems with the blog! After all, back in September I was still in the office, so no alcohol had passed my lips. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! 502 errors in the HTTP cycle
Any client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) goes through the following cycle when it communicates with your Web server:
Obtain an IP address from the IP name of your site (your site URL without the leading 'https://'). This lookup (conversion of IP name to IP address) is provided by domain name servers (DNSs).
Open an IP socket connection to that IP address.
Write an HTTP data stream through that socket.
Receive an HTTP data stream back from your Web server in response. This data stream contains status codes whose values are determined by the HTTP protocol. Parse this data stream for status codes and other useful information.
This error occurs in the final step above when the client receives an HTTP status code that it recognises as '502'.
Resolving 502 errors - general
This problem is due to poor IP communication between back-end computers, possibly including the Web server at the site you are trying to visit. Before analysing this problem, you should clear your browser cache completely.
If you are surfing the Web and see this problem for all Web sites you try to visit, then either 1) your ISP has a major equipment failure/overload or 2) there is something wrong with your internal Internet connection e.g. your firewall is not functioning correctly. My Mum thinks I can sort out her PC for her. It runs on a thing called Windows Milennium Edition (yes, I know, totally obsolete). When she's trying to save a document on Weird, she can't just save; it will only let her 'save as'.
Any ideas, since I'm trying to train her to save as she works?

When you have entered at least one line of text, and go to , it will offer you 'save as' because your document doesn't have a title yet. You have to enter a title, and then click 'OK' or , and your document will be saved under the title you provided. (The XP version offers the first few words of the document as a 'working title', and will save it as that.)
Thereafter, if you go to only 'save as' is offered, but pressing ctrl-s (or ctrl-S) will save the document under its (already given) title.
You can do a ctrl-s anytime, and with windoze Millenniun, I'd recommend doing it at least after every paragraph. It happens in the background, so you don't see any evidence, unless you watch the wee disc LED-light, but it happens.
If Mum has been ctrl-s-ing every so often under a 'working title', she can then save the (or a) final copy with and entering whatever title she wants. This will leave the 'working title' copy as a backup. This can also be achieved with alt-f-a (hold down alt key and press f and then a) and providing a title when prompted.

Hi, back on the beach after a week enjoying the delights of Dent and Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales.
The "Sun Inn" in Dent was visited most days and I can highly recommend the Kamakazee ale from the Dent Brewery.
RAF jet fighters on low-level training were about the only real intrusion in a wonderfully quiet area. Walks were plentiful and we're back suitably refreshed.
Thanks to all those who made suggestions for things to do and places to see - we tried some.
We would definitely NOT recommend the Sportsmans Inn at Cowgill despite their website claims.
The viaducts on the Settle to Carlisle railway were spectacular and Hawes on market day was charming - especially the carrot cake from the little bakery just off the main street.
Back on the diet tomorrow but, for now, a glass of red and a relax in the sunset.

The blog is in a mess, and the way it's being "dealt with" is to lie to its users. I don't blame Marc and Eric for this, because I think they pass on what they were told.
I find myself feeling, with Fifi, that I am fed up with the waste of my time and the way that I'm being caused to look as if I am posting several times when I haven't, or that I have posted at all when I was told that I hadn't. It is very tempting just to go away until it is fixed -- and of course if we all did that, it would be "fixed", because there would be nothing there to *go* wrong!
But how would I ever know that it wasn't messed up if I didn't try to post occasionally?
I am sure you can get more ferretts in a bag than that! But it does prompt me to look and see what a box of frogs looks like (as in 'he's mad as a box of frogs').

have a chum who runs a garage which is administered to by a robust young woman. She spotted some 'droppings' and was making quite gentle enquiries as to what they came from. Since when the lads, being rural, have been taking in other samples to leave for her mystification - sheep, badger, fox, and one even they can't identify.
The feeling is, they'll be making their own tea for a month when she finds out, but worth it.

I am now 99.9% certain it is toad droppings.
Blackish, about 2cm long and quite hard and dry. When broken up there are visible wings and other insect parts. Unfortunately, my probing of the spoor has destroyed my only remaining specimen. I will keep an eye out for more and will send a photograph........

Aunt Dahlia - we can go one better in the puzzling spoor department. A few years ago I bought some walnut marzipan (it's quite rare, & for a good reason). When I wanted to use it, discovered it was rancid. An unattractive shade of brown too. Thought, "what to do with this now?"
Obvious. Shape it into suitably spoor-shaped pieces, drop it over fence onto next-doors patio. How we laughed at their puzzlement over the next few days at the range & varied sizes of the "droppings" that appeared overnight. Not the neighbours we have now, I hasten to add!
Unfortunately, we could never own up, as the marzipan left greasy marks on their newly-laid patio slabs. Oooops....
Well can I say a big thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday today? Very much appreciated all of you. Special thanks to Anne P, whose decision to do two chocolate cakes means that there was more than enough to go around. Yes, Fifi, your card did arrive OK and thank you for that as well.

Sorry, started reading about the kids leaving home discussion and have to add my bit...even thought it's soooooo last week.
My Mum started buying me luggage for birthdays & christmas from the age of about 17...then when I came back from my first year at Uni she had turned the house that used to house four teenagers (I was the youngest) into a bed and breakfast.
I came home to find a brass No2 on the door and tea and coffee making facilities in my room. The upside was having remote controlled colour telly in my room!
She'd moved all my belongings out into the attic when I was gone. By the next holidays I too was sleeping in the attic room!

I did do a specific post the other day, containing the answers I got, which I put up in the hope it would offer some proper useful advice on what's going on. In the end it annoyed people - and I know why - as it seemed to raise more questions than it answered.
Each time froggers have emailed, rest assured I have forwarded them to the right people. I'm sorry the problems continue.
Can I offer THIS insight - just from me. I may be wrong about bits of this but it's how I understand things. Blogs at the 大象传媒 are still - in the eyes of the 大象传媒 - at a test stage. This means that things we might want to do take an age or can't be done. An outside company is also involved.
Maybe I should be more grateful that the Blog has worked as well as it has in the past! If it's any help, please know that there are a load of people pushing VERY hard to get things fixed. For my money, this blog is so big and successful and such a valuable tool for us and for you that I think the 大象传媒 should have a little look at its priorities and stop farting about. If we're going to do something we should try to do it brilliantly.

Having been 502'd yesterday, this is by way of a toe in the water. If it doesn't work I'll just lurk for a while.
If I get any further than the threshold of room 502, there will be fresh vegetable and lentil soup for those who like it and some of the pears from a very prolific tree in our garden.

Outline planning permission has been granted for the building on plot near the Northern Rock.
Funds have been raised at eighteen times my annual gross income but the interest, I have been assured, is fixed at .000123%.
Full planning permission has now been granted but I have hit a bit of a stumbling block.
I intend this place to be green, to that end shall we have electricity produced by:-
A, a 1000' tall wind turbine?
B, a barrage stretching accross the Sea of Tranquility from the Northern Rock to Weston-S-Mud?
C, Eddie and team on excercise bikes coupled to a generator.
D, a gas turbine burning the gas produced by the '大象传媒 farting about'?
E, we nick the tricity off of Chris Evans blog?
F, get Gillian to knit a really big pair of Speedos with built in solar panels?
G, or stick 'Socks' the Blue Peter cat in a tread mill.
H, a really big nuclear power station?

It's amazing how so many froggers have excellent blogs - which attract a great number of comments - and clearly work!
If Eddie doesn't have the pull to convinve the bosses at the Beeb that this needs to get fixed - and with priority - then perhaps - it should be stalled in it's tracks - and an alternative platform used - until this actually works.
It's becoming so hit and miss that many thoughts - and responses - are no longer viable.
Just packing the guitar, crash helmets and clerical collar into the car, before toddling off to play a Jam Tarts gig.
The elderly audience will probably wonder afterwards if they dreamed us......!

Cheers Eddie. I'm sure most of us have had to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous IT departments and know that you're as frustrated as the rest of us - if not more so. It looks like some folks in the Beeb haven't realised the magnitude and significance of what we have going here, (its usually the bean counters in my experience but maybe the 大象传媒 is different). When you come to record '4 at Fifty' I'm sure a major theme will be how Radio 4 was at the forefront of using technology to revolutionise audience involvement. I just rang the 大象传媒 complaints line (08700 100 222) and vented my spleen (about the technology not the programme) - I get the sense that's an area which sometimes gets the attention of 大象传媒 grown ups.
Am going to see if the afternoon shift of gremlins is as active as the morning crowd. If I make it through have brought some coffee cake with me....if not will be in Cafe 502! Hm, may bring along a picture of somewhere tropical to remind us of where we really want to be.

Some QC thing meant I wasn't even allowed on the beach yesterday! Still, never mind. Hopefully I can get on today.
If it's any consolation (and it probably isn't) the blog started playing up at about the same time as our system at work. Our system is now getting better (lolling along like a three legged spider rather than crashing all day) which we take as progress. Maybe the blog can catch this and get better too.
Anyhoo thought I'd share something with you that a colleague told me yesterday. They were taught (!) that if you wanted to poison someone you should ask a doctor. If you wanted to poison someone and get away with it you should ask a pharmacist. Obviously I was appalled at this slur on my profession.
