prepare for more bias
Paul - this thead is for comments during and after the programme.
It's not about predictions.
Can I politefully suggest you tune in to one of the thousands of Internet stations available and leave us all in peace!
Please do NOT feed the trolls.
Thank you.
Paul;
Bias in PM?
I take it that you are editing today then.....
Are you Eloise Twisk in drag?
Si.
:-P
"The 大象传媒's Christian Frazer" or "The 大象传媒's Christian, Frazer". Well, it made me chuckle; I like the idea of the Beeb having a token Christian.
Let me see if I have this right.
Our representatives have been so enfeebled by the Executive and party whips, they become ineffective and no more than lobby fodder.
Our opposition parties are being co-opted into Brown's big tent, essentially seeking to make it a one party state.
And now because there is no feed back of public opinion through our MP's and opposition parties, Brown seeks to 'connect' with the public via citizen juries, an idea which sounds if it comes straight from Chavez or Castro.
So isn't Brown seeking a cure for a disease he has propagated in our democracy? And the solution is remove his hands from the throat of our opposition parties and his boot from the neck of our MP's.
Dear 'Paul',
Oh, a bit of good old bias then from a punter...
Problem: the collapse of British social organisation and the dire disaffection of UK youth.
Solution: the castration of the unparented working classes.
Kind regards - yours objectively...,
I just wish we could have a programme that didn't have me crying into the sink while washing the dishes. That's last night with the death of Sally Tomlinson, & tonight with the funeral of Rhys Jones. Good programme - just wish the news wasn't all so tragic.
Excellent interview with Bono. I had no idea he'd worked with Pavarotti. And great NOT to hear Nessun Dorma again, but something different. Well done PM & Eddie.
Paul 1
Is not me. I have just come onto the blog and noticed the post. I don't do one liners, and usually comment within a context.
I have already said that Paul 1 is not me. The post hasn't appeared yet.
Jonnie (2) as I said Paul 1 is not me. However, if you don't like my style, spelling, content, whatever. Don't read my posts. I have as much right to be here as you.
I heard on the PM news that Sir Ian Blair has been heavily critisised over the aftermath of the Metropolitan Police's shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes.
Today I read in the Telegraph page 4 an article by Duncan Gardham on a report which claims that public libraries are stocking hundreds of Islamic books by advocates of "holy War" with many glorifying acts of terrorism. I think this is relevant because it was against this background 7/7, that the Menezes tragedy occured.
Paul (1)
Is not me. I don't do one liners.
Isn鈥檛 it funny?
In one breath politicians of all shapes and colours worry and complain about 鈥渧oter apathy鈥 and straight after deny the chance of a referendum on Europe.
I didn't hear the whole programme, so I don't know if the additive research was mentioned.
Although many additives/E numbers are artificial, there are some natural ones out there - unfortunately nobody's had the bright idea of flagging them up (although I once saw a Safeway leaflet explaining E numbers that added a (N) to the end of natural/nature-identical additives).
Info below extracted/condensed from ukfoodguide.net
Wikipedia has a more complete guide - search for "E numbers"
Colours:
E100 - Curcumin - yellow/orange - aka turmeric root.
E101 - Riboflavin - yellow/orange - aka Vitamin B2.
E140 - Chlorophyll - green - it's what makes plants green!
E141 - Copper complexes of chlorophylls - Derived from chlorophyll, no adverse effects known.
E150 - Caramel - brown/black - heated sugar [1]
E153 - Carbon black - black - usually burned vegetables, but burned meat, oils and fats also used.
E160a - Carotenes - orange - yes, it's from carrots!
E160b - Annatto - orange - from the seed coat of the fruit of the Annatto tree, often used to make red leicester cheese.
E160c - Paprika extract - red - from the red pepper.
E160d - Lycopene - red - it's what makes tomatos red! Not widely used yet, but may come from GM toms.
E161b - Lutein - yellow - obtained from the same sources at the same time as E140 (chlorophyll)
E162 - Beetrood red - red/purple - from beetroots, surprisingly enough.
E163 - Anthocyanins - red/blue - found naturally in flowers, fruits and vegetables.
The E170s are all derived from minerals.
E170 - Calcium carbonate - white - chalk, limestone, marble, eggshells, stalactites, stalagmites etc.
E171 - Titanium dioxide - white - derived from the mineral Ilmenite.
E172 - Iron oxides - red/yellow/orange/brownblack - derived from iron ores.
E173 - Aluminium - silvery-white - used for external decoration.
E174 - Silver - silvery-white - used for external decoration.
E175 - Gold - yellow - used for external decoration.
But even natural ingredients have their horrors:
E120 - Cochineal - red - the crushed carcass of a cactus-eating insect. Surprisingly enough not suitable for vegetarians, children or those with food allergies.
The E200s (mainly preservatives) are a veritable minefield, but these three appear to be the only 'safe' ones (no known adverse effects):
E202 - Potassium Sorbate
E203 - Calcium Sorbate
E234 - Nisin

[1] Caramel is found in: beer, brown bread, buns, chocolate, biscuits, brandy, chocolate flavoured flour based confectionery, coatings, decorations, fillings and toppings, crisps, dessert mixes, doughnuts, fish and shellfish spreads, frozen desserts, glucose tablets, gravy browning, ice cream, jams, milk desserts, pancakes, pickles, sauces and dressings, soft drinks particularly cola drinks, stouts, sweets, vinegar, whisky and wines.
So please tell me why ukfoodguide.net claims it is "not recommended for consumption by children"?
Sorry this isn't really a comment about the content of tonight's show, but I was at Rhys Jones' funeral today because our choir was singing. I had sang at quite a few funerals, but never for a child, and certainly not one as large or in such tragic circumstances.
It was very emotional, especially the wave of applause which rippled up the cathedral as his little Everton coffin was carried in by his Dad & brother to the 'Z cars' theme on the organ. The dignity and love shown by his parents & family has really been astounding, and the whole service, although incredibly sad, was also very warm.
The people of Liverpool turned out in their thousands to pay tribute to this little boy, but maybe it is naive to hope that someone's conscience will be pricked by this outpouring of love & grief.
UK jets shadow Russian bombers
The show of strength is mainly to send a message to NATO. Don't mess with us
If US installs a missile defence shield in Poland and the Czech republic, the Russians should bomb it just for fun - to give Bush a few sleepless nights. What can NATO? Nothing - Do a lot of hand wringing!!!!!!!!!
NATO is stuck in a quagmire in Afghanistan fighting suicidal maniacs with long beards wearing sandals and using AK47.
The manics will not be defeated any time soon.
The interview with Sally O'Neill was most enlightening.
I was wondering why making the legal system more opaque is in any way a solution.
'who cannot be named for legal reasons' is rapidly becoming shorthand for 'appeared in court'.
Still, it is nice to hear another liberal, sucking on the tit of the public purse, on the 大象传媒 making excuses that ignore reality.
Far be it from me suggest that abandoning the plans to build a million new homes on a template akin to Croxteth, will do more to stop this happening in the future than video evidence in court.
And while you are about it, abolish the rules for social housing that effectively mean that only the pregnant, mad, and non-white are considered priority.
But hey! wadda a know?
Send in the trolls... there ought to be trolls... maybe.... nEEEEExt year....
peace:)
Relief for troops leaving Basra as reported by 大象传媒's Web Site
On Monday's Glass, I posted the following
"The Brit Army has been driven out of Basra. Evidence!!!!!!!!!!! there is plenty of it. Day in and out there were mortar attacks on the Base.
These are referred to as "indirect fire". Some where along the line this became one attack too many for the soldiers sleeping tents. I suspect there have a lot of shrapnel injuries. This reports have been hidden from the wider public by MOD".
Finally 大象传媒 has woken up
Relief for troops leaving Basra. as reported on 大象传媒's Web Site
".......................... Yet for more than three months at the Basra Palace base on the city's southern edge, the 550 soldiers were coming under an almost daily barrage from militias - 750 times in one month alone."
Lets do some math
550 soldiers divided by 5 per tent = 110 tents divided by 750 = 0.146 per tent. If I were in one of those tents, I would jump the fence and go AWOL. Too risky man
Conclusion. The soldiers suffered a lot of shrapnel injuries. Time to hit the road jack!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets do some further math
Incoming mortar 750 times a months which equates to 31days x 24hours = 744 hours divided by 750 = 0.992 rounded to 1 mortar per hour.
Conclusion. The soldiers did not get much sleep so the "best army in the world" has basically run away. Fled

Queen Elizabeth is dead
Paul (11) Hahahaha :-)
Love the strapline SSCat :-)
GM - It must have been so emotional. I've only seen the clips on the news but to be there and witness it.
For and any other interested parties. Watch the yellow metal and the black stuff, as real stuff goes up, abstract stuff goes down.
"We are often cautioned that we must live in the 'real world' by folk who mean 'money', a concept more abstract than theoretical physics."

Bin Laden is about to release a video. Wonder if he'll be invited to speak on the Beach. Him being the man of the moment(s). Of course his hands aren't full of blood? No. Damn why do I forget?
I can confirm that the Paul @ 1 is *not* the same person as the other Pauls on this thread...
Paul (24),

Good show last night.
Sally O'Neill was a very well reasoned and erudite piece, quite engrossing.
Bon and Pavarotti - as I said on the other thread a lovely piece. So nice to have a personal reflection on the man, not just the voice/career. Can't help wondering if he'd brought anything else to go with the cheese?

Hi yes sorry about all the depressing news again yesterday, it always seems to happen when i'm editing. Missing child, murdered child, dead opera singer, disturbing court case about, er, a child killed by a dog, oh and an interview about why we shouldn't put children through adult courts. Not a deliberately themed programme, though you might have thought it.. At least no terrifying "eddie, we have nothing to go to" moments.. Phew. Eloise
Nessun Dorma.
Went to Stamford tonight for Any Questions.
Goodness, hasn't Jonathon Dimbleby AGED!!
And he's started talking funny. Must have had his tongue pierced (or even split). You know the sort of thing that the ageing do to appear young.
Mac
I'm off to last night of Proms tonight. Hope there's no tongue piercing. You got me worried!
Last night of the Proms, but alas only on Radio 3. (Lucky you, Paul!)
Does anyone else just think it's all *fun*, and not worry too much about Deep Significance just for once?
:-))
