It's an oddity

Eddie Mair | 09:39 UK time, Tuesday, 6 November 2007

that in the very week I start the new iPM thingy my internet at home has gone kapput. They're delivering a new "hub" by tomorrow. And the internet on my mobile has packed up. I think it could be a sign.

Came in for an iPM meeting I was assured was at 10am but you know what? It's at noon. Will be going for a coffee at 10 instead. I will take a photo for you.

Hub kapput? Sounds like an Israeli politician to me ..... Oh, and sign of *what* Eddie - Are you already in doom and gloom about iPM?

Looking forward to 'sharing' a nice hot virtual quadlatte in due course, Eddie!

And then of course I didn't take a photo. I will do better.

I'm still trying to make sense of the ipm website.
I keep on losing where I am. I think it would be more practical to have a proper 'front page' as does PM to explain the whole thing.

I'm sure a techie could easily put something together.

Sorry to hear about yer hub Eddie. I'm trusting that you are probably referring to your router. I'd nip off to Curry's and buy one: Belkin, Linksys or Netgear - to have on standby. Nothing worse when they fail on bank holidays or the weekend.

Jonnie (2) it's under warranty apparently so the company is going to send one. It was very odd not being able to log in last night at home and read the comments. How did we cope before the internet?

I’ve always wanted to see what a cup of coffee looks like.

In the meantime, I thought I’d left a message yesterday about listeners’ responses to the whole 16-18 segment. I say that the volume of responses would be enough to fill your entire Friday programme or, with your interactivity brief in mind, perhaps the Saturday programme instead.

Your Blog post could be construed to be slightly ambiguous

If you were to take a photo of the iPM meeting, we'd say you're off the hook

Especially as we suspect that's what you originally intended...

    Learn Eddie, learn...

It is a disaster in this house when the interweb thingy falls over. No shopping, no homework, no chat, no work, no radio, no music.

I hope Eddie's had a chance to catch up with the 16-18 yr old thread now. Goodness it's provoked an outpouring of libertarianism hitherto unsuspected in the PM audience. Who'd have thought there were so many of us prepared to fight for the right for teenages to stay in bed all day. Mind you, Eddie did get accused of being a feather-bedded public sector lacky who wouldn't know the real world if it leapt out of his quadlatte and smacked him in the face. Or words to that effect, anyway.

Eddie, I've been through three hubs from a certain telecommunications company in the past year. And this third one still doesn't work very well at all. If I were paying for them, I would likely be annoyed. :0)

How did we cope? - We drank more coffee, didn't we, Eddie?

You are forgiven. We just hope the coffee tasted good ;o)

If only it were that odd, Eddie: our internet fell over on Sunday afternoon, taking our network with it. Perhaps it happened the other way around. Anyway, it was broken.

However, by some means I don't understand, I fixed it on Monday morning.

Maybe you need to invite me round to supper and I could save you the cost of a new hub! (whatever that is)

    ;o)

Eddie - surely if it's an iPM meeting, you don't actually have to be there . . . .

Or you could co-opt one of us to go instead - after all, you'll be blaming the listeners if if doesn't work, right?

Jonnie - I know what you mean about getting lost. The whole site has a familiarity to this one, but then it goes walkabout. Or is that me when I go exploring the links. Absolutely fascinating, most of them, but I seem to be losing whole chunks of my day...

Welcome back Eddie btw. Sorry to hear about the cold. Fifi has a great recipe for Big Sis's veggie chillie and it works a treat on colds, or the symptoms thereof.

My home Internet is broken too. Are they trying to wear us down? Who are "they" anyway? You may take my broadband connection but you will never take my freedom! Or some such thing...

I wonder why the links from around the ´óÏó´«Ã½ web empire (it must be more than a "site" now!) point to a 403 error?

I feel as if I've been cast adrift on a raft when my internet connection goes down. I love the internet and reading the stuff here and in other places I frequent (mainly to do with computer games).

A good few months ago when my computer decided to drink my glass of white wine, I had to forgo the second glass of consoling liquor in order to dash to some popular IT supplier to purchase a replacement as I couldn't bear not being able to lurk.

Glad its not just me. I've been unable to connect for two days. Laptop went funny. Means I've had a chance to install Vista (It feels sloooowwwwww). Plus at work main line down so having to route the calls on to second line. And the way its set up it was necessary to disconnect Braodband and fax so I can have phone and Credit card machine. Noted loads of e mails to check. Arrrrrrgghhhh.
