It cost taxpayers £130 million each year for the European Parliament to shuttle between Brussels and Strasbourg. That's One hundred and thirty MILLION pounds. It's a farce.

Ah yes, the ones that nobody has ever produced an acceptable account of, that are completely messed up so that nobody has any idea where the money has really been going? That's not exactly news, but as olds go it's worth remembering each year, I guess. Good for you.

£130 million a year, eh? That's a part of the small £130 milion per week it costs us to belong. Dunno why there's so much worry about a small £120 million fine if we don't recycle enough. If we recycle EU directives, would that solve the problem? Aren't most EU commissoners recycled politicians?

I suspect they shuttle between those 2 places via their home towns, which is why it costs so much.

Much as I'm a Europhile, what with travelling there for work and pleasure, I have to say that the Brussels Strasbourg to-and-fro-ing is loudicrous. It is obscenely wasteful in terms of finance, not just because of the travel, but also the upkeep on the two sites, etc. Add in the environmental damage caused by all the travelling and it is beyond justification. Time for all the other countries within the EU to stand up to the vested interests (*cough*France*cough) and end this farce...
