An urgent appeal.
Please have a look at this photo:
And this even more disturbing close up:
They were taken just a few minutes ago, at the most important seat in broadcasting...perhaps the most important seat in the world. At this desk, all the greats have worked. John Humphrys, Martha Kearney, Evan Davis, James Naughtie, Paddy O'Connell, Shaun Ley and probably others.
But as you can see, the bits where those great broadcasters have rested their elbows for hours, their heads in their hands, weeping from boredom, have become worn away. There's no more decent material left.
I know these are difficult times. You may be under financial pressure yourself. Perhaps you or someone in your household have lost employment. Maybe your pension has been reduced. Or perhaps you normally give what spare cash you have to charities trying to find cures for cancer, or to sick children, or homeless people.
But as these photographs prove beyond doubt, our need is greater than yours. Please send what you can...including any blue material you have. No, not that kind of blue material.
Please help us to help you. The better these elbows are protected, the better the programmes will be. Thank you.
