Where The Wild Things Are
This is awesome. Director Spike Jonze hasn't pandered to the kids in adapting this classic children's book - it's as weird, dreamy and screwed up as his Being John Malkovich. That might freak out the littl'uns but think of this more as an arthouse movie for grown-ups - The Tweenies meets Radiohead.
4 stars.
The Stepfather
Big time cheesy thriller starring Gossip Girl's Penn Badgely as a son suspicious of his mum's new boyfriend. You gotta love just how seriously everyone seems to be taking this sleaze - it almost makes it so bad it's good. Almost.
2 stars.
Carriers
It was made in 2007 but is only just coming out. Yes, it's THAT good. A pre-Star Trek Chris Pine stars in this futuristic thriller, where a mystery virus has wiped out most of the population. With his small gang of friends and family, he's trying to make it to the clean-air of the coast. Chris isn't bad, all crazy eyes and wild mood swings - but this is way too downbeat to really make an impact.
2 stars.
