Detective Chief Superintendent Graham Shaw works on the Major Investigation Review Team of which looks back at unsolved cases – known as cold cases – as well as reviewing on going enquiries.

His team worked on the case of Wearside Jack, the Yorkshire Ripper hoaxer John Humble and the case of Mary Gregson, who was raped and killed in as she walked along the towpath of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in 1977. Both cases were solved by the team, with the help of advances in DNA testing which is now so successful that you can separate the DNA of several people even if the samples occur in exactly the same place.
