2009 - Year Of The Beard

Reviewing the last 12 months of music coverage, one thing bristled out at us - there were an awful lot of beards. In fact, our very own Paul McFadyen has even cultivated a fair facial crop himself.

We spoke to Glasgow who was itching to rate a selection.

David is Glasgow's most compact walking musical encyclopaedia and one of the city's best and beardiest DJs.

He can currently be seen and heard playing records from his 10,000+ record collection at his monthly nights at Nice and Sleazy, Fun Size at Max's [with Wrong Island's Teamy] and at [with more to come in the New Year] - go up and buy him a dark rum and ginger beer, he'll never say no!

Check out some mixes here:

Over to Dave for the Scotland's Music beards of the year.

Beard 1: Foxface, filmed at Homegame

foxface_homegame.jpg
DAVE SAYS: The perennial 'chinstrap outgrowing lip' issue of the younger beard wearer. 3/5

Beard 2: The Wilders, Filmed at Celtic Connections 2009

the_wilders2.jpg
DAVE SAYS: Tidy, salt and pepper action. A little heavier on the salt on this wizard. 4/5

Beard 3: Alabama 3, filmed at Rockness

alabama3_rockness.jpg
DAVE SAYS: Dark glasses can't hide his shame at the barely there facial furniture. 1/5

Beard 4: Dan Tyminski, filmed at Celtic Connections 2009

dan_tyminski.jpg
DAVE SAYS: A good solid Geography teacher smart/casual suit & beard combo. Not too showy. A beard you could take home to meet your mother. 5/5

Beard 5: Roddy Woomble of Idlewild, filmed on Vic Galloway Show at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Pacific Quay

idlewild_vicsession.jpg
DAVE SAYS: A happily married, wife & children, no longer need to make any effort, home is where you're happy sort of beard. Or that of a vagrant. 4/54/5

Beard 6: Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote, filmed with The Burns Unit at Homegame

kingcreosote_homegame.jpg
DAVE SAYS: Less a beard than laziness in action. Still, a good look. 3/5

Beard 7: Evolution. Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro at T IN THE PARK in 2008...

...and in his current state, filmed backstage at the Barras in 2009

DAVE SAYS: This beard appears to be doing well for itself as it can now clearly afford a stylist. However, the photo suggests it may be a goatee which I'm afraid I cannot support. 2/5 [4/5 if it's just an unfortunate trick of the light]

Beard 8: Broken Records, filmed on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing stage at T In The Park

broken_records.jpg
DAVE SAYS: A fine Highland cow impression. 4/5

Beard 9: Casey Driessen of the Sparrow Quartet, filmed at Celtic Connections 2009

sparrow_quartet2.jpg
A fiddler who has fiddled a little too much with his physiognomy.
5/5 for effort, 2/5 for the result.

Beard 10: Beardyman, filmed at T In The Park

beardyman09.jpg
How dare he - using the good name of beards to further his career. A charlatan.
0/5
