We're all starting to get dead excited about
takingÌýour Radio 1Ìýshow to Edinburgh this summer. It's going to be brilliant!
The Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the
world and, as the old cliché goes, "When in Edinburgh, do as the Edinburghs do.
Put on a musical!"
Ìý
The amazing thing is that anyone can
perform here, even us! "Scott Mills-The Musical" is just one of 2,098 shows
takingÌýplace in 265 different venues from 7th-31st August.ÌýAnd it's not going to
be anywhere near the strangest thing on stageÌýeither!
Ìý
There's music, comedy,
musicals, kid's shows, dance, theatre, opera, exhibitions... anything you can
think of. Yes, there are big names like Ricky
Gervais and Jimmy Carr but the real fun
comes from seeing a whole load of
unknowns too. Some of themÌýmay go on to be massive stars andÌýyou'll be able to
tell people you saw them first in a tiny room with 9 other people. Others will
be utterly terrible and you'll never hear of them again. But that's the joy of
Edinburgh.
Ìý
We'll be doingÌýour radio show each day from the
11-14th AugustÌýhidden away a little room just off the Pleasance Courtyard, where
connoisseurs of the arts drink beer and discuss which ukulele extravaganza they
saw today. Every afternoon on Radio 1 we'll be bringing you the noise of the
beer drinking, the thrills of the festival, some guests you know and love
already, and we'll be trying to find some you don't know yet but willÌýhopefully
love!
Ìý
Then, after the radio show,Ìýwe'll actually be
joining in this great tradition and putting on ourÌýown musical in the little
Pleasance One theatre.ÌýThe venues at the Fringe range in size from huge theatres to those tiny rooms with 9 people and most of
them have loads of different shows going on every day. Pleasance One holds about
300 people and we're sharing the theatre with shows ranging from children's
plays to Four Poofs & A Piano! We're the last show on in the evening at
10:30pm. You'll obviously hear all the highs
and lows of our production on the radio show each day and you'll be able to
watch it too at Radio 1 online.
I can't quite believe we're nearly there! From
those jokes about Scott being in that Rick Rollin' production to being so close
to the opening night. It seems like no time at all. Now we have a script, some
songs, a director and a star,Ìýthe big question is can we actually put a musical
together and get it ready for curtain-up on August 11th?
