Vernon's guest appearance!

Post categories:

Sam Bailey Sam Bailey | 00:09 UK time, Friday, 14 August 2009

As you might have heard, Vernon was our special guest tonight, following in the footsteps of Denise Van Outen and Antony Costa before him.  In the 'talent search' scene, Vernon had to impress a judging panel made up of Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, and The Hoff.  How do you think his breakdance went down?  Three big "nerrrr"s, that's how!

Someone climbing Arthur's Seat!

All week we've had this lovely view from our studio of the famous .  We're trying to persuade Chappers to climb it during the Wonder Years and Floorfillers on Friday.  And today, for the first time we saw people up it!  Here's the rubbish blurry photo.

Fletcher the butler

Edinburgh is full of musicals and comedians, but also some more abstract performance art.  This guy is Fletcher the butler, and he'll do whatever you want as long as it doesn't cost money or break laws.  So Scott got him in to fan him.  For an hour.  He's stood there behind me doing it right now.

The A-Team are in Edinburgh and they've copied our idea for a show, by calling theirs The A-Team: The Musical.  Pity them fools.  Etc.

Chappers meets Chappers

The actor that plays Chappers in the musical was on the show on Tuesday, and was quite nervous.  Asked what he'd say when he met real Chappers, he said "do anything you like, just don't hit my face".  Thankfully, real Chappers saw the funny side, and the two met up for a pint after the show last night.

Last night's guest star - Denise Van Outen!!

Post categories:

Sam Bailey Sam Bailey | 13:43 UK time, Thursday, 13 August 2009

On the opening night (and in the video that you can watch now) the guest star was Antony Costa from boy band Blue.  Last night, it was none other than Denise Van Outen, representin' for the county of Essex.  We've got a video of her bit coming later, but for now here's a photo.

It was Beccy's birthday yesterday.  So the team got her a cake.  And Scott got her four Chippendales.  He really knows what women want :)

The reviews have started appearing for Scott Mills The Musical, and the team here are gobsmacked, blown-away, flattered, humbled, and so so happy.  The most exciting part is that the musical was written with all of the Radio 1 listeners involved from the outset - you're a talented bunch :)  Here are a few of the best ones.

- "The audience at the Pleasance went bonkers at the end of one of only three sold-out performances. Well, they were entitled to; they'd written it."

- "I don't know whether it was the wine, the onset of mass hysteria, or the heat from basking in the glow of Mills's tan for over an hour, but I'm giving it five stars."

- "Scott Mills The Musical is a surprisingly sophisticated work with brilliant structure and first-class stagecraft ... this could arguably be the best show I'll see this year in Edinburgh".

Still getting over last night

The audience were so totally electric last night - whooping and cheering all the way through the show, and every time Scott came on stage they went crazy!  No surprise then that loads of them hung around outside the theatre waiting for Scott and Becky and Joe to come out.  When they did, they almost got mobbed!

A special mention for Anthony Costa from Blue as well - he was our special guest star last night.  I was backstage with him just before his scene, where there are two dressing rooms - the red dressing room and the blue dressing room.  Guess which one Anthony wanted his picture taken in front of?

Ukelele-off

Now Scott's mentioned before that the Posh Radio 4 Lady (PR4L) plays the ukelele, but today she met her match.  Not only is Lady Carol a professional uke player, she's also a an actual Lady and therefore is also challenging for PR4L's posh crown.  Their music was very lovely too - listen online at about 6.40pm to hear their version of Johnny Cash's 'Ring Of Fire'.

These guys are Aussie and they do funny songs.  They performed for us, a song all about how all pop songs actually only have four chords - a fact they demonstrated amazingly.  The song is called the Four Chords Song.  Listen to the show from around 6.10pm to hear them!

Madonna!!

Madonna is performing at Edinburgh Festival!  Oh.  Not real Madonna.  Madonna impersonator Evelyn Brink, and her show The Real Life of a Fake Madonna.  She may be a fake, but that doesn't stop her wearing the full get-up, and dancing like she really means it.

So this is a little bit awkward.  actually works at Radio 1.  But he is also an amazing non-mind reader, and has his own show here at Edinburgh.  That means he is entitled to appear on the show as an actual guest, and have a guest photo taken with Scott Mills whilst pulling a funny face.  Here it is!

I'm going to be uploading allsorts of things over this week in Edinburgh.  To start with... here's a photo of Four Poofs and a Piano!  They just came in to our makeshift studio here at the theatre, and sang us a little jingle.

Unofficial Mills fans queue for tickets

The One That Doesn't Speak The One That Doesn't Speak | 15:49 UK time, Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Massive big ups to the people from who came down to the Pleasance really early his morning to get to the front of the queue for tickets. They were the only people in that queue, but the thought was really appreciated!! The one called Kizmok even made a banner and got us all to sign it and stuff. Amazing.

6am rehearsal

The One That Doesn't Speak The One That Doesn't Speak | 15:44 UK time, Tuesday, 11 August 2009

We had the dress rehearsal this morning. At 6am. That's quite early. But we should think ourselves lucky. The rest of the actors, and all of the crew, worked through the whole night, both last night and the night before. They've now gone for a well deserved sleep before tonight's opening performance, and we have a radio show to do!

I went down to rehearsals for the musical today, and was totally blown away with how amazing it is. It's hilariously funny, and the songs are wicked! So impressed. Can't wait for Edinburgh now. Here's Scott giving us a little update, followed by some photos of the rehearsals
