Goodbye Edinburgh!

Scott Scott | 17:15 UK time, Friday, 20 August 2010

IMG_0895.jpgThis has been one of the scariest and random weeks of my life. Where else can you be accosted by an Australian offering you tomatoes from her bag in a pub, see a woman walking around with a box on her head like it's perfectly normal, buy nine sets of false teeth and be straddled by a burlesque chav??

I arrived in Edinburgh on Sunday after flying from Exeter! Literally got off the plane and was rushed to Edinburgh's Royal Mile to take part in Radio 4 Quiz "Just a Minute". As you may have heard on the show, I was rubbish.

Then later on Sunday we started rehearsing, as we have been every day for two weeks after doing the Chris Moyles show in the mornings.

This week in Scotland has been a lot of very late nights and very early starts.Ìý Most days rehearsals began at 7.30am, and we were working right through to appearing on Grimmy's late night show. I am shattered but - as it was last year - this has been probably the most fun week of the year for me at Radio 1.

totds6.jpgThe team - Me, Beccy, One That Doesn't Speak, Clair and Rob the Boss have all been sharing a house together in Edinburgh, so it's been a real bonding experience for all of us.Ìý Even though I do wish Rob the Boss had closed the fridge door more often!

Need to say special thanks as well to Chris Larner, our director for the Bjorn Identity. I have learnt more in two weeks from him than on any previous project. His jokes are terrible, but he really taught me how to use the stage, gave me a lot of confidence, and even attempted to try and make me actually act. Not a very easy task, in a really small amount of time.

All of us were so scared of doing our one man shows, and last night as I waited to go on in the fear cupboard next to the stage, and could hear Edith doing the opening announcement, I think I did have a bit of a panic attack.

I feel quite proud in a way that I managed to remember as much as I did. There were a few mess ups but the audience seemed to think they were some of the funniest bits! Hope you enjoyed listening to the shows on Radio 1, and I hope you enjoy the video.

So we are all going back to Radio 1 HQ tired but happy, and if you have never been to the Edinburgh festival before, DO IT!Ìý It really is amazing, and I really want to come back next year whatever happens, whether we decide to do another show or not!

Well done to Rob the boss, The One That Doesn't Speak, and Beccy who were ALL out of their comfort zone this week, and did SO well.Ìý Beccy in particular was so nervous, but totally pulled it off!

Cheers Edinburgh for a brilliant, brilliant week.

Earlier tonight, Scott put on his one-man show 'The Bjorn Identity' (The Bourne Identity with Abba songs). Performing to another packed out venue, Scott took us through the hilarious story and treated everyone to a bit of singing, dancing and of course some quality comedy acting.

Scott was Jason Bjorn.Ìý Found floating by fishermen Westwood and Zane Lowe, he fell in love with temptress Sara Cox whilst being pursued by CIA Agents Vernon and Greg as he tried to find out his true identity.

The Bjorn Identity....love, action, slow motion scenes, car chases and over-acting.

Today, Jon Dryden Taylor the guy who played Chappers in Scott Mills The Musical last year, came in to tell us what he's up to now and how he's got a couple of 'blue' lines in his new show.

jon.jpgBeccy was particularly relieved to have got through her show so the only nervous one left was Scott.

Comedy guests of the day were:

John Bishop - who had us all laughing in the studioÌý

john_bishop.jpgShowstoppers - who managed to perform two songs made up on the spot using themes from Scott's Bjorn Identity show.ÌýÌý

showstoppers.jpgStephen K Amos also popped by and told Scott about the joys of not worrying about reviews or filling a venue anymore - Oh to be successful!

stephen_amos.jpgReally looking forward to the final performance.

We got to see Beccy bring us her impressions of a list of stand up comedians. Here are some of the pics of Beccy in character, and hear Scott talking about the show with Chris this morning, and Beccy talking to Sara Cox about how it went.

Edinburgh Day 3: The International Show

Today Jennifer Coolidge AKA Stifler's Mom popped by. Scott had heard that she didn't like it when anyone mentioned American Pie or Stifler, so instead, he and Beccy tried to see if they could get the word 'stiff' into the conversation without her noticing.

Cue: "I'm scared stiff", "I'll need a stiff drink" and "There's stiff competition" LOL.

Ìý

Next up was Reginald D Hunter, with his amazing deep voice. He shared his views on Grimmy's performance last night and talked about the difference between US & UK humour.

Ìý

reg_hunter.jpgThen, back again after their appearance on the show last year, was the Australian musical trio, Axis of Awesome who cracked us up with How to Make a Love Song, and an updated version of their 4 Chord Song.

Ìý

Thumbnail image for IMG_0814.jpgA very nervous Beccy headed out to give away tickets to her own show and then Rebecca Donohue told us about her show where she teaches people to say things in Spanish that they wouldn't learn at school (we reckon it may be a bit sweary).

Ìý

rebecca_donohue.jpgLots of laughs and a totally international show before the team head off to Beccy's show, which will be like a comedy roadshow with Beccy doing impressions of loads of comedians.

Earlier this evening, it was Grimmy's turn to do his one man show, entitled 'Team Hate'. A powerpoint presentation (*´óÏó´«Ã½ voice* other presentation programmes are available) of theÌý50 things he hates most in the world . Ìý

Some of the things on the list included rich people who pretend they're normal, stepping on newpapers, Amanda Holden, and Ke$ha were just some of things/people he ranted about in his first ever stand up show.

Edinburgh Day 2: Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Milican & more

Post categories:

Karen The Internet Girl Karen The Internet Girl | 19:29 UK time, Tuesday, 17 August 2010

It was quite a busy show today and the team were all in a good mood after The One That Doesn't Speak's successful show last night.

Ìý

The lovely Sarah Milican was the first person to pop in and she chatted about her show and how 'blue' it was.

sarah_milican.jpg

Tom Wrigglesworth chatted about how successful his show was last year. So much so that he hasn't really had much time to plan this year's one, meaning each night it is being tweaked to make it better.

tom_wrigglesworth.jpgComedian, Rhod Gilbert explained why he's 'breaking the rules' by doing the same show this year as he did in 2009. Is that a bit cheeky? Either way, he still made us all laugh in the studio.

rhod_gilbert.jpg

Arj Barker, off of Flight of the Conchords, and The Wau Wau sisters also popped by the little studio to chat about their shows and why they were quite different to many of the other shows at the festival.

Don't their hats look a bit like the guards who stand outside Buckingham Palace?

If you missed the show, you can still hear it (well for the next 7 days anyway)

Meanwhile, here's some action pics fromÌý - a night of bizarre audience participation cabaret - that featured Scott dressed as a copper, Beccy as Freddie Mercury and Eliza Doolitte AND KT Tunstall both performing live.ÌýÌý As KT described it herself, "tonight is groundbreaking".

Day one in Edinburgh - Sean Hughes, Fawlty Towers and more

Post categories:

Beccy Beccy | 19:00 UK time, Monday, 16 August 2010

Today's show was full of guests, all plying their wares here in Edinburgh.Ìý Sean Hughes was on first, and he revealed a strange attitude to calendars.Ìý Local girl KT Tunstall was next and we played her new single, and then Basil, Sybil and Manuel from Fawlty Towers turned up - truly bizarre.Ìý

Next up an amazing magician called Ali Cook, who made a goldfish appear from nowhere - you'll have to believe me on that one, until we get the video up.Ìý And finally Abandoman did some ad lib rapping based on whatever Scott said.Ìý Really brilliant!

We'll have video highlights from our live webcam up later, but for now you can listen to them all again.Ìý Half way through the show, TOTDS had to leave because he was so nervous about his big "one man show" tonight - more about that, tomorrow!
