It's snow joke

Gareth LewisCardiff - Spare a thought for Colin Francis of Porthcawl, he's on page three of today's sitting on a suitcase outside Cardiff airport.

But he's not posing in the style you'd expect in The Sun, if he had, he might well have lost vital bits of equipment.

Scottish weather has hit Wales so Mr Francis and thousands of others have faced cancellations and delays on the big trip up to Edinburgh.

But at least he'll get there. I've just found out I'm being kept in Cardiff just in case I can't get back for the Scrum V programme on Sunday evening.

大象传媒 Wales's own weatherman extraordinaire Derek Brockway has told me more snow is expected overnight in south Wales and there can be no guarantees that runways will be clear over the weekend.

No tatties and neeps in the press room at Murrayfield, no cold waits for a taxi outside the Caledonian or the post 10-pint delights of a deep fried Mars bar for me this year.

So should the Six Nations move to a more spectator friendly time of the year? No way.

The uncertainty over whether you'll get there, whether you'll get home, or whether you'll freeze your "equipment" off queuing outside a pub on Rose Street is all part of the tournament's mystique.

It's part of the excitement. As crucial as the desperate hunt for a ticket on the morning of the match.

And it can rain in the summer anyway. Cliff Richard singing in adversity at Wimbledon leaves me cold.

Rugby fans singing whatever the weather; whatever stage of their epic journey they might be on, can warm up even the coldest of Six Nations Saturdays.

Oh you're breaking my heart. Wait, I'm taking out my violin to play a sad tune while you wail in Wales. I've got my crying handkerchief at the ready. One winter in Chicago or Minnesota is worth about fifty in Cardiff. If you don't believe it, ask your own correspondents who have just been there. How about a nice new super domed sports stadium. As an added advantage, if there's a hurricaine, it can double as a public shelter.

Why don't they let you go. If you get stuck in Scotland perhaps Eddie Butler can present Scrum V and it may be as good as it used to be in the past??

I don't know, a little bit of snow & the people behave like the world is collapsing around them! Spare a thought for those in up-state New York right now, they've had over 100 inches of snow with another 2 ft to come this weekend - & people still go about their lives in a non melodramatic fashion. Just shut up & get on with it will you.

Minnesota my pants. Winter in Antarctica is worth fifty of your feeble winters. None of us will take you seriously unless you move there.

Think of those poor buggers up in Canada; the Canadian Ski Marathon (160 kms over 2 days) near Montreal runs tomorrow & it's -30 deg. C. I'm just thanksful I'm missing it, living down here in Atlanta now, where we'll watch His Holiness lead the Red Rose to a big victory over the Azzuri. Go World Champions England, GO!

I don't know about Antarctica, but this morning in Saskatoon (Canada) it was -32C but felt like -43C with the wind...admittedly no-one's playing rugby - because we haven't seen grass since November!
Thank goodness for ice hockey - although I will be listening in to England v Italy tomorrow morning!

Well its minus 20 C at 3.45 in Sakhalin (too cold to snow) and we wont be able to see any of the matches (satellite for SSS1 is too low). It will be middle of the night but we will still be up to get it on the radio. So what have you got to whinge about? Thank God Butler and Moore are on TV, at least you can turn the sound off.

Spare a thought for us welsh ex-pats who wont even get to see the game on t.v. let alone live.
I'm in Australia and not only do they not show the six nations but the bbc in its wisdom wont let us watch or listen to the game via the internet.
Much as I love being in Oz, its times like these I'd trade a month of sun just to sit in Cardiff freezing for 2 hours.
Thanks 大象传媒, All them years I paid my licence fee promptly too rather than take a chance on getting caught without one by TV detector vans lol
