Sports Personality - your ideas..
Much time has been spent debating the so-called lack of British success in 2006 - but it has been an incredible sporting year.
And as the editor preparing for the show in December, I’m looking for your input. More of that later...
There have been some truly memorable moments.
For sheer emotion, I challenge anyone to have been unmoved by the normally ice-cool after clinching the Open at Hoylake - so soon after his beloved father Earl’s death.
I was in tears watching the television pictures at home as he sobbed on caddie Steve Williams’ shoulders.
Talking of tear-jerkers, even the men’s locker room at the US Open was touched as to tennis.
For sporting drama, who really could have imagined Zinedine Zidane - in what should have been a glorious swansong - being sent off for head-butting an opponent in the World Cup final.
My mum, who’s not a huge sports fan, was on the phone saying she couldn’t believe her eyes.
I also remember nearly dropping my baby daughter Daisy in the excitement of seeing at the 113th attempt!
And as an Everton season ticket holder, even I found it difficult not to be slightly impressed with Steven Gerrard’s stunning injury-time goal in the best for years.
Just minutes after being dead on his feet, he sent the game into extra-time - and went on to score in the penalty shoot-out for Liverpool in their win over West Ham.
It has been a remarkable year of sport - for good reasons and bad.
I watched in amazement as Floyd Landis also came back from the dead to win the Tour De France - a few days later, I was gobsmacked when he .
There was at the World Cup but great success in the ring with Hatton, Woods, Calzaghe and Khan flying the British flag.
That’s not forgetting cyclist , outdoing her mum at the World Equestrian Games and claiming silver at the Winter Olympics after regulars at her local pub had a whip-round which meant she could compete at the Games in the first place.
Enough of my memories - I haven’t even mentioned cricket or rugby - I’d love to hear from you.
For this year’s Sports Personality of the Year I’d like the sporting films to be story-driven, looking back at the great moments, rather than the traditional review sport by sport.
It would really help me and my team if we could get an idea of which of these or any other sporting moments from 2006 you would most like to relive.
And feel free to contribute any musical suggestions to accompany the pictures as this is often an area where we get a lot of feedback from viewers.
