Women's World Cup takes centre stage

Roger Mosey | 12:09 UK time, Tuesday, 18 September 2007

Advance notice of a schedule change on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Television this weekend.

After the success of England's women footballers in getting through the group stage of the in China, we'll be showing their quarter-final match live on ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE on Saturday. The kick-off's at 1300 BST.

We've been delighted by the popularity of this Women's World Cup: yesterday, for instance, we had a peak audience for the game of more than 1 million on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two at 1400.

Saturday's figure should comfortably beat that, given more people are able to watch at a weekend.

Looking further ahead, and back with the men's game, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ will be showing live UK-wide coverage of Georgia v Scotland on Wednesday 17 October.

We don't have the contract for Scotland's home games, which I know has disappointed a lot of people, but we do try to pick up their away matches for audiences in Scotland and for the wider UK when we can. This should be a big occasion, and it's a key battle in to get to Austria and Switzerland next year.

We'll be rooting for them. As far as the home nations are concerned, the more that make it to , the happier we'll be.
