The countdown clock continues to tick as we get ever closer to this year's show on 9 December (1900 GMT, ´óÏó´«Ã½ One).

One big ´óÏó´«Ã½ vote has been causing a bit of stir this week with the controversial exit of our very own Gabby Logan (one of the best dancers in the competition!) from

And you can be sure over the next few weeks there'll be acres of newspaper coverage and endless pub debates over who should win the prestigious Sports Personality award for 2007.

Recent have included David Beckham, Paula Radcliffe, Jonny Wilkinson, Kelly Holmes, Andrew Flintoff and Zara Phillips.

As editor of the programme, it's my duty to ensure the nomination process used to select the shortlist is as fair and credible as possible.

Last year, ahead of the well-documented problems in the TV industry, we made changes to the nomination process to ensure it was as robust and transparent as possible.

By using leading figures from the sports industry, including sports editors from all the major national daily and Sunday newspapers, we felt the was the best and fairest possible.

This year over 40 leading sports experts will be involved. A judging panel of greats, including many former winners, will also play a part, and from the combined selections, the shortlist of 10 contenders will be decided.

The public will be able to join the debate via our Sports Personality website. Those taking part in the nomination process will be encouraged to visit the website to keep in regular contact with your views.

The top 10 contenders will be announced by Adrian Chiles during the One Show on Friday 30 November (1900 GMT, ´óÏó´«Ã½ One).

The public will then decide the winner with a phone vote live during the Sports Personality of the Year show - so ultimately the choice will be made by the hundreds of thousands of people who will vote on the night.

Join the debate and have your say in our 606: Sports Personality section.
